So why March 23rd?
Pakistan Resolution Day
March 23rd marks the day when the demand for a separate Muslim state was made. The Lahore resolution, which later became known as the Pakistan Resolution was presented by Fazlul Haq; Sikander Khan drafted the resolution. The session was held from the 22nd to the 24th, in which Jinnah spoke of the problems Muslims were encountering and embraced the idea of a separate state. Many also refer to this as the moment which transformed Jinnah into the Pakistani leader he is known as today.
To commemorate the day,** Minar-e-Pakistan** has been built at the place the resolution was passed.
It is also a national holiday in Pakistan.
Excerpt from the Resolution:
“No constitutional plan would be workable or acceptable to the Muslims unless geographical contiguous units are demarcated into regions which should be so constituted with such territorial readjustments as may be necessary. That the areas in which the Muslims are numerically in majority as in the North-Western and Eastern zones of India should be grouped to constitute independent states in which the constituent units shall be autonomous and sovereign.”
