KARACHI, Pakistan, April 21 (Reuters) - The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has yet to agree to a two-test proposal from the Australian Cricket Board (ACB) for the series in October, a PCB official said on Sunday.
“We are talking with the ACB officials and remain hopeful that they will agree to play three tests in October,” PCB director Brigadier Munawwar Rana told Reuters.
Australia want to play two tests as they are keen to return home a week earlier from Pakistan and allow their players time to play in one first class match before they start their Ashes series against England in November.
Australia will also be playing in a Golden Jubilee triangular one-day series in August on the first leg of their Pakistan tour before going to Sri Lanka for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Challenge Trophy.
“We are keen to play a proper three-test series because if one test is reduced then we also lose revenues, particularly from television,” said Rana.
“At the same time we also don’t want to be branded with the tag of being a board and a team which can only play two-test series.”
Since last year, Pakistan have played three consecutive two-test series against England, Bangladesh and West Indies. New Zealand will play a two-test series after a three one-day international series.
Rana said talks were continuing with the ACB officials and added he hoped Australia would see Pakistan’s point of view.
