Trial match strip disappoints Shaharyar

LAHORE, Oct 26: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar M Khan was disappointed over the placid wicket prepared for the ongoing four-day trial match.
“Yes, the wicket is dead and we don’t want such placid wickets during the series against England,” Shaharyar told reporters at the Qadhafi Stadium on Wednesday.
“I have instructed the ground staff to prepare sporting wicket, having bounce and life for bowlers but it is totally batsman-friendly,” he said.
He said that the related staff was high-skilled but he could not understand why they had failed in preparing a lively pitch.
The PCB chairman, however, did not agree to the notion the pitch might affect pacer Shoaib Akhtar’s performance who is seeking a comeback to the national squad.
“As an experienced bowler, Shoaib should prove his fitness and he should also force the batsmen to make mistakes to claim wickets,” he said.
Shaharyar said that the PCB had registered an official protest to an Indian TV channel for making derogatory remarks against Shoaib Akhtar.

^ It's sad that the PCB had months in advance to prepare for this tour, yet they couldn't even manage to get a wicket for practice which would resemble the real deal. Kind of defeats the purpose of warm up doesn't it?

Almost all of our openers tried so far have one weakness or the other, atleast Shoaib Malik shows learning ability.

for Pakistan XI, Mohammad Yousaf made a notable 98, everyone elses performance was disappointing…in the batting department that is…
and it looks like today was thespinners day…Mushtaq Ahmed ended up with 4 wickets, and arshad khan with 1 wicket…Mushtaq did give away a lot of runs though…32 overs, 3 maidens, 173 runs for 4 wickets…
for Rest of Pakistan, Misbah-ul-Haq is at 53 not out, and Faisal Iqbal at 85 not out…
Shahid Afridi has claimed 2 wickets against the Rest of Pak - 11 Overs, 1 maiden, 40 runs for 2 wickets…not bad…Sami took the 3rd wicket…10 overs, 2 maidens, 29 runs for 1 wicket…

I would still consider him a flop. Look at Afridi’s stat I would pick Afridi over Mushy any day. But if we have a better option than Afridi than go for that not Mushy for sure.

Few Interesting points there (Indication of who might get selected):
Mushtaq's figures after first day were 0/89 off 19 overs. He was still given another 12 overs on the 2nd day. Now compare that with other bowlers such as Mansoor Amjad who didn't bowl a single ball, neither did Umar Gul or Iftikhar Rao. Akhtar was given another 5 overs, so him and Mushtaq were considered the MAIN bowlers.
From Pakistan XI, Sami bowled and Kaneria bowled 10 each and Afridi 11. Shabbir only bowled 6, Rana and Asif 5.
So the likely bowling lineup will almost certainly be something like this:
Afridi as all rounder
Mushtaq
Sami
Akhtar
Kaneria.
The final lineup is something like this:
Malik
Afridi (maybe Raza to open and Afridi at 6)
Younis
Yohanna
Inzi
Hasan Raza ( Wasim Bari is VERY keen on giving him a chance)

I know Afridi doesn't wanna open but i was watching this interview with Wasim bari where he said that he is highly impressed with Hasan Raza and he will surely get a chance against England. So i am just assuming that either Afridi will open or even Hasan Raza could be tried as opener.

Where did you hear that? But it’s good news. It’s high time Hasan Raza is given a chance. He’s been performing admirably in domestic games and with the A team. I hope he comes through.

Hasan Raza is a middle order batsman, he should be given chance to prove his worthiness in his own spot first before moving him upwards otherwise he may get discarded if he fails to score as opener.

The reason Mushtaq and Shoaib Akhtar were given more overs was probably to give them more chance to prove their striking capability as both have played county matches and not ‘international’ cricket for quite some time and didn’t do as good in first round.

Misbah made a century today, but Afridi and Akmal out to SA for ZERO. Asim Kamal out for 7.
