I hope India agrees to this, in the greater need to help the Kashmiri people.
**Pakistan wants to use Indian route to reach remote villages **

Pakistan has formally asked India for access through Jammu and Kashmir to get to remote villages close to the Line of Control in Azad Kashmir. The request is in response to two offers of help made by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. However, India is quiet over Pakistan’s request, as the Indian government is not too happy with Islamabad refusing Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters to rescue Indians stranded in Muzaffarabad. Many remote areas of Azad Kashmir have become inaccessible because last Saturday’s earthquake wiped out all road and bridge links and no rescuer was able to reach them even after a week having passed.
Sources confirmed on Friday that Pakistan had formally approached India “through the diplomatic channel” for access to the remote areas of Azad Kashmir from the Indian side of the LoC, but there was no word about it at the official briefing of the External Affairs Ministry. The Indian PM’s gesture of asking Pakistan to use “Indian territory” for rescue operations was one thing while the decision to allow Pakistani military or civilian authorities to actually do so was another, sources said, adding that it would be very difficult to get approval from senior Indian quarters and that was why no immediate official response to the request. Sources said a clarification had been sought from Islamabad on its request since it was not clear whether they want to use Indian airspace to fly rescue teams into Azad Kashmir or wanted to start relief missions from “Indian territory”.

LOC is not a straight line. Some Pakistani controlled forward areas are surrounded by Bharati control and vise versa. Accessing those forward areas is easier if you go through the Bharati controlled side. Kapeesh!!!

ok. i didnt read the article..but there are many villages where they don't have to go through indian route and people there still havnt gotten any help yet

yara its very simple... its not about being able to get to its own people... these are all diplomatic manoueveres... like when India offered to help it knew Pak won't accept... and vice versa..... thinsg are not very simple in politics (but our ppl fail to understand)

Oh Baboo! I am glad you finally read the news thingy. It always helps when you read first baboo!
Reports on the ground are that Pak military is clearning up roads. However there are certain areas where roads are completely gone. So our soldiers are using mules to transport men and material to the quake victims.
Lines of communications are gone. I am in touch with people via cell phone (whenever coverage is available) and the first hand accounts are now coming through. Not some news paper mumbo jumbo, the real accounts.
So we do need access to some forward area villages. However if Bharat is unwilling and non-cooperative, we’ll go in through traditional routes.
So don’t worry O Bharati! We will help our people at every cost. Just don’t go around the world beating the trumpets that bharat wants to help.

FYI, Pakistan has accepted Indian aid - go read the news for God’s sake. As antiobl has said the LOC is not a straight line, and it would be easier to help our people i.e. those in Azad Kashmir if the Indian’s allowed Pakistani aid convoys and forces to pass through the LOC. You really should get hold of a map of the terrain in that area, and judge for yourself.
I think both sides should be magnanimous and declare the suspension of the LOC, and led aid flow through the quake ravaged regions of Kashmir without any hindrance whatsoever.
For the sake of all those injured and trapped on both sides of the divide, it’s time for the LOC to go!

I don't believe that India has replied positevely to Pakistan's request to cross the LOC to help the Kashmiri people? It is a pity that they are the only one's playing politics at this juncture when all the world is helping out.

He should visit one of the madrassas in Muridke... he'll get a jhatka when he finds that Pakistan is far from being a secular tolerant state, and posting a load of twaddle on the internet is not going to change much.. Pakistan has seized the initiative. Now that the LOC is being opened for Kashmiri's to cross through, it will be hard to close again. This will mark the beginning of the end for the LOC.

Logistically and strategically India cannot even get aid to the part of Kashmir it administers, despite the fact that the devestation there was nowhere on the scale in Pakistan. Opening up the LOC will ease the suffering of the Kashmiri’s, and the burden on India.
