In the interview Youhana said that he might not play in the match because of his injuries, I think he is doing a great deal to Asim Kamal who will likely be dropped if Inzimam comes back.
So great decision by Youhana.
If the ban on Shoaib is lifted then I think we can afford to go in with four bowlers. Kaneria, Sami, Shoaib Akhtar and Shoaib Malik. Imran Farhat can also bowl. If Shoaib has to sit out then Pakistan will have to strenghten their bowling a bit.
Personally I dont think Danish Kaneria deserved to be the man of the match. Man of Match to me should be the person who decides the fate of the match by his performace and that no doubt was Shoaib Akhar. Kaneria might have taken a wicket more then him in the 2 innings but it was Shoaib’s hostile spell that proved crucial in the match.
As Dean Jones said that if Shoaib doesnt play the next match then for him South Africa will go in as favorites. He was the basic difference between the two teams. Polloc and Ntini are world class fast bowlers but this pitch was just not made for fast bowlers and Shoaib still made the African batsman terrified with his enormous pace, swing and bounce. Well bowled Shoaib Akhtar and well played Pakistan ![]()
Pakistan add rookie leg spinner to second test squad
LAHORE, Pakistan, Oct 21, 2003 (Reuters)
Pakistan have added Mansoor Amjad, a rookie 19-year-old leg spinner, to their squad for the second and final test against South Africa in Faisalabad starting Friday.
Amjad's inclusion in the squad, despite the presence of the two experienced leg spinners Mushtaq Ahmed and Danish Kaneria, is a clear indication that the Pakistan selectors are keen to build on the success of the spinners in the first test.
Pakistan won by eight wickets on the fifth day of the first test on Tuesday for their first home test win over South Africa.
Amjad, who comes from the central Punjab city of Sialkot, has yet to play any first class match although he played in all three matches of the recent Emerging Trophy Tournament in Sri Lanka.
Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman Samiul Hasan said Amjad had been added to the 18-man squad because he was a promising youngster with a lot of potential.
Amjad has played in seven one-day domestic games taking seven wickets.
Hasan also said all rounder Abdul Razzaq had been included in the second test squad that does not include Yousuf Youhana, who has been ruled out with a hamstring injury.
In Yousuf's place Pakistan's most experienced batsman and regular captain, Inzamam-ul-Haq returns.
The Pakistan selectors have retained fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar despite a three-match ban and fitness problems.
His appeal against the ban, for using bad language during an incident involving Paul Adams on the first day of the first test, is due to be heard by an International Cricket Council commission headed by former Australian test captain Richie Benaud this week.
Pakistan squad: Inzamam-ul-Haq (Capt), Taufeeq Umar, Imran Farhat, Yasir Hameed, Asim Kamal, Shoaib Malik, Moin Khan, Abdul Razzaq, Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Sami, Shabbir Ahmed, Mushtaq Ahmed, Danish Kaneria, Mansoor Amjad, Faisal Iqbal, Salman Butt, Misbah-ul-Haq, Kamran Akmal.

I tend to agree with you there, I would have picked Shoaib or Taufeeq ahead of Kaneria, but the truth is this was a magnificent TEAM performance where quite a few guys played crucial roles apart from the above 3. Asim Kamal, Imran Farhat, Shoaib Malik also made big impact on the outcome.
The ban won't be over-turned so I think we better prepare ourselves mentally to be without Shoaib on Friday.

yes he is hindu,,, best thing that could happen to our team in a while. Man the Indians must be burning up, our one hindu player is a better up and coming bowler than the 900 odd million hindus in India can produce. I would take Danish over Balaji the new young bowler in India any day....
Not that any of that is related to this series.

elahi bhaijan Kaneria is RAW's finest recruit to date. ;)
And isn't it more appropriate to compare apples to apples rather than oranges? Kaneria is a leggie and Balaji is a pace bowler (pretending to be a leggie). Bhaji is more suitable as a comparison.

dotn tell me they are going to bring this kid in to face the South Africans...
what else can you select from team selection comitte..
and if by chance that guy perform,, every selector will become hero.
He's not going to play, he's just been included in an 18 man squad, for what reason I'm not sure, maybe just as cover for Mushy or Kaneria who will be looked on as our main strike bowlers in Shoaib's absence.
This fabulous victory was a team effort and in my opinion the MOM award should have gone to the Pakistani team as a whole.
Yoyo despite all his failings led the team admirably and should be congratulated for pulling this one off.
Hats off to the whole team. Well played. :k:
Oh Dear!!! Excuses, excuses, as if SA is the only team to get bad decisions against them. Grow up Smith. After running to the match refree to get Shoaib banned when his batsmen could not handle him, now looking for excuses for his defeat. It was not a victory by a narrow margin, it was a whopping 8 wicket defeat.
SA skipper rues umpiring decisions after Pakistan defeat](http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/031021/323/ebp8e.html)
LAHORE, Pakistan (AFP) - South African captain Graeme Smith called for more television replays after two controversial umpiring decisions contributed to his side’s eight-wicket defeat by Pakistan.
Speaking after the home side sealed victory on the fifth morning to take a 1-0 lead in the two Test series, Smith also admitted South Africa’s batting and bowling were simply not good enough.
“I think television has got to play a role somewhere,” said Smith on Tuesday, alluding to two poor decisions on the fourth day.
Australian umpire Darrell Hair adjudged key South African batsmen Herschelle Gibbs and Jacques Kallis caught fending off pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar’s rising deliveries on Monday.
However, television replays showed the ball brushed batsmen’s shoulders on both occasions. South Africa from 99-1 then succumbed to 241 all out.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) introduced a television umpire in 1992 to resolve questionable run-outs and stumpings, but there are no provisions to deal with controversial catches and LBW decisions.
South African coach Eric Simons also called for the use of television replays after Monday’s decisions.
Smith however also conceded dismal batting and bowling let the side down.
“I think there were few turning points and Monday was crucial for both the teams and batting let us down,” he said.
“It is very important to get a good total on this type of wicket and we had reasonably good starts both times but that was spurned,” the South African captain said.
Pakistan bowled out South Africa for 320 on the first day and on the fourth day Shoaib Akhtar and leg-spinner Danish Kaneria shared nine wickets to dismiss South Africa for 241.
“We struggled to take wickets on a good batting wicket that took spin. I think we have to look at our firepower in the bowling department for the second Test,” said Smith, whose side won the one-day series 3-2 after losing the first two games.
Smith said South Africa badly wanted to win the second Test and the key would be to try to put Pakistan under pressure.
“We have to occupy the crease for longer period of time. We have to produce the goods in Test cricket.”
Pakistan coach Javed Miandad said it was a very good win for Pakistan.
“I think everyone has worked very hard for this win after the way we lost the one-day series. The main difference was that we got good opening stands in both innings and that our spinners bowled very well. It is a collective effort,” said Miandad.

Celebrations after the victory.
i think dani-nani is cofused regarding the fact of him being a hindu or a muslim. i mean when he took his 1st test wicket in bangladesh i believe he did a sajda (posture) and now and again i hear him thanking allah for his good fortunes and his excellent form.
maybe we should check if his father is in pcb:ahaa:
Amazing performance by whole pakistani team, nice to see a genuine team effort, rather than personal heroics making a difference. Yes personal performance were there but collectively they made this win possible. Well done lads...
inshallah!

chill guys, what's the big deal. As long as he is taking wickets for Pakistan, he's good enough.
He ain't confused, You just need to see things from his point of view, and you'll understand. Go Danish!
I think the most pleasing thing about this match was that for once both batting and bowling depts did their respective jobs. The bowlers stopped SA from establishing a big total on a good pitch, and then for a change the Pakistan batsmen applied themselves brilliantly to get a reasonable lead and followed it up by batting the game to a close. SA were outplayed in the end although it was a gripping test match even so with both teams fighting hard to establish the upper hand.
I think the first person who should be congratulated here is Javed Miandad. Ha has faced a lot of criticism, even from his chief selector and he managed to strung the right chords alongwith Yousuf Youhana to create the killer symphony for South Africans. I went to the nets the other day before the test and Miandad was surrounded by all the batsmen and he was jokign with them while lecturing. Then Miandad took Imran farhat, taufeeeq and Asim Kamal aside and started holding extra training sessions with them. Good job sir :k:
Yousuf Youhana must be proud of his achievement in his first test as a captain, he slightly gambled in first innings with his field placings and seems as if he is over attacking but in second innings he was spot on :k: Great job, a good captain in the making.
Aamir Sohail must be acknowledged as well, though he will make it sound as if he is the only one who should be congratulated but he is the part and his gamble with Asim Kamal paid off. Just keep your mouth shut Aamir sir
coz actions speak louder than words.
I thought Yoyo made a couple of mistakes, he held Kaneria back for too long in the 2nd innings but to be fair I didn't give him any credit for his attacking field placings. The leg slip catches in the 1st innings for example.
And if Miandad can get a player like Farhat to maximise his potential then he will deserve credit too.
As for Aamir, well....no comment :D
Obviulsy youhana made mistakes, why wouldnt he ?
its his first Test match, not even a oneday match. And about keeping kaneria out of the attack for too long, well Ramiz wa saying that Kaneria is struggling with his fitness, thats why i thought youhana didnt call him in the attack earlier.
No commetns??
well thats a good comment ![]()
