Ok finally a good news from Pakistani camp!! ![]()

Pakistan’s strike bowler, Shoaib Akhtar, has passed himself fit for the third Test against India at Karachi on Sunday, after overcoming an ankle problem he sustained during the two drawn matches at Lahore and Faisalabad.
“I’m fit, it’s all good,” he told Cricinfo, as Pakistan prepared for their first Test in the city for 15 months.
Shoaib was the bowler of the series in the Tests against England last month, picking up 17 wickets in three matches. But he has struggled to make any impact on the current series, with just one wicket in 41.2 overs.
Earlier in the week, Pakistan’s captain, Inzamam-ul-Haq, had been cagey about Shoaib’s prospects of playing. “Yes his ankle is bothering him and right now we are not sure if he will be completely fit for the Test,” said Inzamam. “But he is very keen to play and take some wickets which is good news.”
In spite of his poor returns at Lahore and Faisalabad, Shoaib’s absence would have been a huge blow to Pakistan’s prospects of victory, especially as Karachi is widely expected to offer more assistance for the bowlers on both sides.
“Hopefully things will be different in the final Test,” said Inzamam. “I do feel sorry for Shoaib and the other bowlers because in my entire career I have not really seen Tests turning out this way and the batsmen dominating the way they have done so far in this series.”
“We are keen to get a result from this series because the last two series have been very well contested and it would be a pity if we didn’t have a clear winner.”

^ I wish they would have released that news at the toss instead of a day early. That way maybe Ganguly would have played. :D
Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006
That is the real irony I found with the article you quoted. On one hand, Akram talks about himself as being an experienced captain with the side for a period of roughly 8 years, and in the same time period, also having a great deal of experience, which insinuates the fact that all captains have the 'last' shot in the final preparation of the pitch, but on the other hand, he goes on to further criticize the PCB management and the captain for having a last say in the flatbeds and paradises of surfaces we have seen in the last two test matches. I mean, the criticism is all fine and dandy (as it should be, rightfully), but where's the logic in this instance? It seems like a double-standards issue to me.
And lastly, I would love to hear Shastri's "OMG~!~Pakistanis have won first prize on scared tactics" viewpoints on Indian team completely refusing to play with the Pakistan team during the 90's. If we go by the same theory that he pointed at, shall we apply the same logic here then?
I hope he said this statement with the intent in mind that they, themselves, have produced dustbowls of pitches, time and time again, in order to prove and guarantee the gigantic 'Warne' turn for their spinners (Kumble + Harbhajan). Although I do agree, and granted that the home advantage should be capitalized in every way possible, but if their brothers across the border try and manipulate such strategies (albeit not intentionally, or even if it is), they are being handled with rotten tomatoes and garbage things such as "ICC SLAMS Pakistan", as we all have been so-conveniently witnessed towards.
Double-standards continue...
Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006
Why don't we see the reality? The way India/Pakistan teams are balanced and the 5 day limit, the batsmen overshadow bowlers. It is 500 on side, 600 on other, 4 days are gone and it is a draw again. Baccho udaas nahi hona, yeh cricket ka naseeb hain.
Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006
^ unfortunately that is true.
Good batting + V.Good Bowling = Superb batting + lousy bowling
Re: Pakistan vs India 3rd Test Match @ Karachi Jan 29 - Feb 2 2006
Ridiculous! Such an injury should be a concern for the coach and the Captain.
Shoaib should be rested and and treated untill fit instead of wasting him on such politically motivated idiotic series where the grounds men cannot prepare proper pitches even if they try their best the weather is way too cold and dry.
No matter what. Pakistan plays better Cricket than the Indians

Lukewarm response for third Test tickets: Shoaib expected to be fit
By Our Sports Reporter
KARACHI, Jan 28: There was lukewarm response when tickets for the third and final Test between Pakistan and India finally went on sale on Friday.
According to details available, just over 1,000 were sold on the first day at 14 branches of a private bank, which was entrusted the task.
The Pakistan Cricket Board’s policy of giving away 50 per cent means the Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) was allotted around complimentary 16,000 tickets of the general enclosure.
All these tickets were distributed through to the public from seven appointed places in the city on Thursday.
The sale of tickets at selected branches of Bank Alfalah was originally scheduled to begin from Thursday, but it was delayed because the excise and taxation department had not stamped these tickets in time.
The highest priced tickets are worth Rs100 for a single day and Rs400 for the entire Test match.
Altogether about 4,600 tickets have been put sale in this category, which cover the Hanif Mohammad, Javed Miandad and Fazal Mahmood Enclosures.
Beside that about 12,000 tickets of Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Zaheer Abbas, Waqar Hasan, Asif Iqbal and Majid Khan Enclosures have also been put on sale.
These tickets are priced at Rs50 for a day’s entertainment and Rs200 for the full match.
Saturday is the last day during tickets will be available from designated branches of the bank.
During the match only the bank’s Gulshan-i-Iqbal branch will be selling the tickets.
However, following the disappointing results at Lahore and Faisalabad, most cricket fans are reluctant to buy tickets for the series-decider which current stands at 0-0.
At least 900 tickets for the Karachi Test have been sold on the Internet of which approximately 600 were bought by the Indians who are expected to attend the match.
Meanwhile, Pakistan received a timely boost ahead of the third and final Test against when fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar showed no signs of being troubled by an ankle injury.
The Rawalpindi Express had an extensive workout during the team’s first practice session at the National Stadium’s nets outside the main ground on Friday afternoon.
Shoaib was bothered by the injury during the listless draw in the record-laden second Test at Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.
Mohammad Sami, the paceman who missed the Faisalabad Test because of illness, also bowled at the nets as did the now fit-again Rana Navedul Hasan.
Mohammad Yousuf, who like Shoaib did not travel with the team when it arrived in Karachi on Wednesday night, joined his team-mates on Thursday after spending sometime with his family in Lahore.
The Indian team did not practiced on Friday as scheduled. Most of the touring squad instead spent the afternoon playing golf.
Both teams will have another session of nets on Saturday before the series-decider begins a day later.

** PCB chief hopes Karachi produces result**
KARACHI, Jan 27: A top official of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) admitted on Friday he had not expected a batsmen-dominated three-Test series against archrival India that stands locked at 0-0 after two matches.
“It’s wrong to say that we wanted dead wickets,” PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan told reporters.
“We did not go into the series with a defensive mindset and did not pass any instructions to the groundsmen to prepare dead tracks,” he added.
Batsmen from both teams scored prolifically in the two Tests as Pakistan vice-captain Younis Khan led the tally with scores of 199, 83 and 194 in the three innings.
The PCB chairman blamed wet weather in the province of Punjab for effecting the pitch preparations at Lahore and Faisalabad where only 36 wickets fell out of possible 80 and 2791 runs were scored.
“Groundsmen did not get enough sunshine at both venues and that’s why we saw two high-scoring draws,” Khan said.
The third Test begins here from Sunday and PCB official expected to have a good hard and bouncy wicket that could produce a result.
“The weather in Karachi has been fine and I think we will see some good quality cricket. It will be a good contest between bat and ball,” he said.
Pakistan had their net session at the National Stadium on Friday and coach Bob Woolmer was happy to finally see a grassy wicket prepared for the decisive match.
“I am pleased to see the best square of the series two days before the game,” Woolmer said.
“It looks a typical Karachi wicket which should have good bounce in the beginning and help spinners later in the game.”
The Pakistan coach hoped that his two key players — captain Inzamamul Haq and Shoaib Akhtar — would get fit for the all important Sunday’s game.
Inzamam had a sore back after he made one of the 12 centuries scored in the series at Faisalabad. He did not take the field in the Indian innings and also did not bat in Pakistan’s second innings.—AP

**Indian manager urges Pakistan players to show calm**
KARACHI, Jan 27: Indian cricket team manager, Raj Singh Dugarpur on Friday called upon Pakistani players to show calm during the high profile Pakistan-India series to maintain friendly atmosphere between the two greatest rivals of cricket.
Pakistani players including pacers Shoiab Akhtar, Muhammad Sami and Shahid Afridi were seen exchanging verbal exchanges with Indian batsmen during the Lahore and Faisalabad Tests.
“It was the home team players who started verbal clashes with our batsmen and they should avoid their remarks in order to sustain friendly atmosphere in the future action between the two neighbouring countries,” Dugarpur told reporters.
Defending his players, the Indian manager alleged that it was Pakistani bowlers who were involved in verbal spatsw with our batsmen while his players only informed the umpires for Pakistani players behaviour.
He also criticised dead pitches that saw the first two Tests ending Laborious draw and hoped that the Karachi Test would end the stalemate.
“It does not matter which team wins the final Test but the result of the series is vital for the success of the Pakistan-India event which is bigger than Ashes series,” said the manager.
Dungarpur said that a lot had been said regarding Ganguly’s controversy, which should be ended now as the left-handed batsman has conducted himself as a true team member.
“Ganguly’s controversy should be erased and I had no difference with Prince of Kolkata as he has been remarkable throughout this tour as a team member,” said Indian manager.—PPI
