Umpires call it a day. 244-6.

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

The last session belonged to England so did the day. We lost the initiative which was given to us by our opener. With Inzi still there all is not lost.

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

Not so disappointing day for Pakistan...but not so good either...a mediocre one...

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

Uff i wanted to see that last part.. the mini presentation where they clip together funny clips from the whole days play with some nice music. But bloody CBN cut it off and showed commercials instead!

Captain Lota

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

Inzi will have to pull yet another rabbit out of the hat, and the tail will have to bat out of their skins for Pakistan to reach 300. That will atleast give us something to bowl at and try to restrict England's lead as much as possible.

It is very disheartening to see such a batting performance on such a placid wicket. Our age old excuse of shaky starts was not available today, with a solid foundation provided to our middle order. Unfortunately, when one part clicks, the other fails. The key problem being no one seems to kick on. It's like I'll get 30-40 and my job is done. Block or 4 sums up our shot selection.

Afridi is and will be sorely missed, Hasan under a lot of pressure to perform in the second innings. My theory always is, preference should always go to someone who has done it before on the big stage, and Afridi has done time and again. Such a pressure match is a not an ideal comeback stage for any player least of all Hasan who has chronic problem of choking anyway.

Ok I am done venting. :D

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

Rana would have been handy at this stage. oh well. I'm sure Shabbir will deliver with the ball (err i hope).
I feel sorry for Raza. I heard he has been delivering in the domestic cricket...but then again, cricket is more of a mental game...he will/should come through in the second innings.

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

WARNING: SHABBIR. Pakistan has made a tactical blunder by playing Shabbir in this match. None of the bowling experts (including the Australians such as Darryl Foster) are fully satisfied even with his modified action. The umpires and match referee etc. will be looking very closely at his action, because if he is reported again, he will be banned for one year. Rana or Umer Gul should have been played instead.

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

inzi should play aggressive from onwards....and he should try to take as much strike as he can.... sami, and the rest must have provide enough support to inzi so the score can reach atleast 325...hope so

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

From 143-1 to 244/6 :(

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

Make it from 161-1 to 185-5 and then 238-6

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

First Day:

Positives for Pakistan
1. Butt had a good day witht he bat
2. Pakistan batting survived the full day
3. Inzi is still there

Negatives for Pakistan:
1. Yoyo was aweful with his poor selection witht he shot
2. Malik failed witht he moving ball-bad choice as opener
3. Reza's failure was a big negative given he was given priority over a established allrounder-Shahid Afridi
4. Akmal kept on flashing......his huge set of teeth..

Yunus Khan was unlucky.

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

All the commentators were surprsied at afridi's ommision. Whatever the reason is, there was no justification of dropping him and it was really unfair.

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

^ I agree with you and skhan. When Pakistan is going for first blood, we needed to go with someone who is in great form internationally. Although for Pakistans' sake I hope Hasan Raza proves himself in second innings that he s not pakistan's Ram prakash.

:smack:
Earlier in the thread Rahul said:

and this is what I said…

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

Only we can mess up like that.

I feel this sort of shape will happen to the game:

Pak: 300 odd
Eng: 400 odd
Pak: 300 odd
Eng chase 200 for win, Danish sparkles.

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

I don’t think Hasan raza is in the side as afridi’s replacement. Hasan is there replacing kamal. Yes hasan is in good nick lately in the domestic circuit and hopefully will justify his inclusion by a sound performance since he replaced someone who also has performed well for Pakistan lately (kamal).
Therefore I think shoaib malik is actually in the side replacing afridi. I don’t care what people will say about afridi and his test temperament. The bottom line is that the guy performed with bat and ball in the last 5 matches and there is no justification of experimenting with malik at the expense of afridi and keeping him out.

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

Although im pretty mad at Raza myself, i was part of the bandwagon that advocated razas inclusion in the side. Reason? Pak A warmup match anyboady? He made 71 not out against these same bowlers on a seamers track! So i think its more of a mental thing (performing anxiety etc) than technical correctness. Harmison was bullying him with short balls and raza let himself get bullied. Tough luck. Hopefully he does better next time around.

Sincerely,
Captain Lota

PS. I miss Afridi :(

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

^ When Hasan Raza made 71, pitch had pretty much eased out and was almost a belter. Trust me on that he cannot deal with short stuff even if his life depended on it.

Though I agree today he was out thought by Harmison but prepared to see a lot of short pitch stuff in second innings or next match (if he plays in that one).

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

Don't see the barmy army anywhere in the stadium, but wasn't that Rob shaking hands with the people in the crowd ?
