Stunning result, simply out of nowhere. You get instant recognition and fame for beating England and Australia.

To beat an England team at its peak is phenomenal. Now let's seal the deal in the next one and declare our arrival on the test scene, not to mention establish Pakistan as a tough venue for visitors.

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

Exactly… it was amazing to see the joys on their faces when ever a wicket would fall… the GS environment was excellent too .. The way we forced jazba_pk to step in and out of the forum will go in the history books… AQ zindabad

On a more serious notes… excellent comeback by Shoaib and Shabbir… Butt was amazing, Inzi once again remarkable… ( wat a dive that was to save a four ) – Kaneria da mystery boy delivered when it counted the most – ripping thru the top order… lovely…

All in all… a memorable victory for Pakistan… goes on to show that a team without drama and conflict can overcome the toughest of challenges. It was highly doubtful that Pak would win when Eng. were 72/1 … but then came the determination and confidence started by kaneria that took them all the way to victory… Kudos to the whole team … It is exhilarating to beat a team like England in a test series and go on 1-0.

Re: Pakistan vs England, 1st Test, Multan

The Shoaib delivery that clean-bowled Giles was perhaps the most memorable delivery of the game. I especially liked the way CricInfo characterized it as "an inswinging yorker which sent middle stump, leg stump and England stomachs cartwheeling." It was a reminder of pure excitement displayed by Wasim and Waqar so many times. More than that, it was sheer determination and grit displayed by Shoaib that was more heartwarming. Never did he leave the field limping, or showed aloofness or any number of other tricks that so pissed off the Pakistani fans over the last many years. No one ever doubted his talent, now the break from test cricket must have done wonders for his temperament.

Kaneria was always expected to do well on a fifth day track. And he didn't disappoint. His two quick wickets in the morning started the slide, and then the ball that got rid of Udal to start the final push against England is captured so nicely by Osman Samiuddin as "he has dismissed better batsmen with the googly, but possibly not bowled a better one."

198 was not a terribly difficult score to get, even on the fifth day. Pakistani batsmen had just given our bowlers a fighting chance to go one-up in the series with couple of very loud duds (Muhammad Yousaf and Hasan Raza, most notably). That the bowlers creamed the opposition, must simply be credited to their excellence and hard work. The nice thing was that the spoils were shared so well between all our frontline bowlers. While Kaneria and Shoaib deservedly are getting huge applause, it was Shabbir who got rid of the most dangerous Trescothick the night before and then the two Sami wickets, and in fact his entire spell, was uncharacteristically hostile and consistent. Inzi's captaincy, which can be second guessed a lot (lack of slips for Shoaib, lack of Short mid-wicket for Sami and generally leaky field placing that allowed batsmen to score a four in almost all Kaneria overs) but he kept a tight reign over his resources and bowling changes seemed well thought-out and planned. Plus the way he dived in the slips to save a single perhaps the first time I have seen Inzi so dedicated in the field.

All in all, a great and refreshing series opener victory for Pakistan.

Congratulations all!
