probably not the result wanted… but heck… as long as its a victory
**Using the Duckworth Lewis method the award goes to Pakistan by 104 runs.
The Man of the Match was Saleem Elahi. **

Great match!
Pakistani team is finally showing their true colors, though our middle order bowling is slacking off quite a bit after brilliant bowling display by Wasim and Waqar in 2 straight matches. They have yet to take advantages given by the 2 Ws to carry on good bowling display, they are letting Zimbabwe middle order batsman get away and score alot of runs, yesterday Andy flower, Blignaut and Evans all scored half centuries and now today you have Evans and Blignaut all scoring good knocks.
And the batting is amazing, I hope they bat this way against South Africa, if these 2 openers play like this in South Africa then we don’t need Saeed Anwar.
Is this the highest score by Pakistani team 344! :k: :k:
With a batting lineup in good form I think we can afford to play an extra bowler replacing Azhar Mahmood, with someone like Muhammad Zahid or Sami.
’
we need saeed back no matter what! doesnt matter if kick omer out or elahi…!!
i personally wanted saeed playing for elahi …few reasons though hmm main reason is that he is very close to get his 9000 …and second we need him for world cup i dont think elahi could able to face teams like aus and sa …i mean u cant compare his current one day performance and u know pick him over saeed!! i m sure if saeed was playing he would have killed zim bowling attack as well!! there is no need praise the guy!!
Saeed is old, and we don't need him anymore!
Taufeeq Umar, Saleem Elahi, Faisal Iqbal, Hasan Raza and Mizbah ul Haq are the future of Pakistan cricket.
How dare you ![]()
Saeed will play till World Cup. We’ll see if the same batting line up doesn’t collaspe againt Aussies and South Africa because that’s where we going…
Congragulations to Pakistan.
Man, Youhana was on FIRE!. Greater performance by Salim Elahi. Looks like Wasim Akram is coming into his real figure. Well bowled Ch. Sahib :k:
**This is a sweet Sunday! ![]()
Next Match: Nov. 27, 2002**

Umair, most of the time you just over react to the events. Now look at this too Pakistan just won 2 matches are you are all "denying" saeed and calling above mentioned players the future of Pakistan (i dont disagree with this too but in my openion this is not the time). How many time Saleem Elahi has been called and recalled in the team you have any Idea ? How many times Hasan Raza has been given a chance are you keeping the count ? same is true for Taufeeq Umer too.
I am not denying with the skills of these players but you cant rule out saeed when World Cup is so near. True that these players are the future of Pakistan but that future period starts after worldcup.
Pakistan cricket was so inconsistant in giving them a chance that not even one of the above mentioned playes is polished enough to win the matches and acquire the conditions and pressure of the worldup. They should have selected Saeed for this tour to give him practice. I know what will happend Pakistan will trash Zim and on this basis Pakistan team will be considered as "All set combination" team but mind you Playing Zim in a 7 match series is way different than Playing World Cup matches against Aus, SA , Eng , SL , WI and India. We all have seen what happend to this NEW BLOOD in Sharjah.
So my bet will still be on mix blood like Saeed Anwar, Inzimam, Yousuf, Younus , Faisal and Taufeeq for Pakistan batting lineup.

This is called immaturity.
yes u r right…
Elahi played some incredible shots today but that too agaonst a club-level bowling side, If he does well against SA (which is unlikely)in early matche.. thats good for him and Pakistan but if he doesnt , Saeed should be kept on standby :k: and practised throughout the remaining of the tour but then again Selectors captain and coach know better.
Saeed once was one of the greatest one day batsman in his era, a player can't keep performing in a similiar way. Most do but some loose their magic. He has experience but so will these guys if we keep them for a shorter period of time. Just because he has played a longer period of time doesn't mean that he will always have a spot in the team. Since his comeback from his long break, he has been given numerous of opportunities, but he has yet to play a match winning role for his country. He failed miserably in Morroco, Kenya, ICC, Super Challenge II. How many chances does one player get.
If a player is out of form, it takes him couple matches to get back into form, take Youhana for example, he hasn't played international cricket since August in Morroco and now it took him only one warmup match to get back to his usual self.
Keeping old players most times will only slow you down, Saeed has lost his touch, while you see other old guys who are inconsistent but you see their old magic glare once in a while like Wasim's awesome bowling display today and Waqar who has bowled nicely on these dead pitches of Zimbabwe.
Yes guys like Hasan, Elahi, Taufeeq have been given chances, but for them its like, if you played 2 bad innings, you are out of the team for the next 2 years.
For Anwar, if you play 10 bad innings, its fine, since the guy has experience he will surely make the team. (sarcastic)
Look at how Australia are pampering Shane Watson, he is below average player, but he is given so many chances so he can get experience under his belt, and become a fine allrounder.
In Pakistan youngsters get a chance for 2 or 3 matches, if they perform badly they get booted out.
Actually I agree with umair... Saeed Anwar had been the best opener in the world and one of the finest batsman pakistan ever produces but he is too old now and we cant keep giving him chances just cuz of his past.. We need new opener and new blood, and once these new players get their experience, they can be pretty good. Salim Elahi may not be a good player but he did play well in the 2nd match and he did have few good knocks in ODI's, one was against England at Lahore in 2000 and had 1 good iniing (79) vs Australia in England last year. So who knows he may become a better batsman than he is now once he gets his experience.

yeah he did play well in that knock but Pakistan needs a consitent opener and if Elahi shows consisteny before WC especially in SA he should be preferrred!
But i have seriuos doubt on his backfoot play plus his intance is very shuffling, extremely dangerous against moving ball
plus you ppl might remember that he had this famous fall out with coach Javed Miandad in 98-99 when he left the team early in the morning! but later apologized to Miandad and Miandad did help him out and he became just a wee bit better batsmen during Moins last tensure as captain but again inconsistency cost him!
Inshallah he will cross the 500 mark before he retires, there’s plenty of ODI’s coming up but I wish he reaches the 500 mark during one of the World Cup ODI. That would be awesome and top of that if PAK wins the WC man that be something
:k: :k: :k:
Wait till you see few anda (zeors) by Taufeeq or Elahi you will be asking for Saeed.
Agree 100% with Rehaan :k: :k: Saeed all the way for SA and WC :k:
Insha’allah!
I agree…Saeed all the way till the world cup!:biggthumb
not b4 WC inshallah b4 endin eht seriez w/SA
Wow Wasim Akram completing 500 now thats interesting and what an honour for Pakistan . If our stupid dumb cricket board have been wise they would have given Wasim a free hand in test matches too so he could have complted 500 there too.
Yes Elahi and Taufiq will make lots of anadas and then they will know who say they don't need Saeeds and Moins :)
