Quick Facts - Umar AkmalPakistan have recalled Umar Akmal to their T20 squad to face world champions West Indies in three matches in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from September 23.
Akmal last played international cricket at the World T20 in March and was left out of the training camp in May, ahead of the tour of England, on disciplinary grounds. He was one of two players that former coach Waqar Younis felt should go back to domestic cricket and re-earn his place in the Pakistan side. In this season’s National T20 Cup, Akmal hit a career-best unbeaten 115 that also included him hitting experienced medium-pacer Yasir Arafat for 34 runs in one over.

Changes in the squad

Out: Amad Butt

It is learnt that Akmal was cleared for Pakistan duty after he had told Shaharyar Khan, the PCB chairman, at a one-on-one meeting last month that there would not be any further issues with regard to his conduct.
“We always thought that Umar deserved a place in the T20 squad and he indeed is in very good form,” Tauseef Ahmed, a member of Pakistan’s selection committee, told ESPNcricinfo. “We really don’t need to go back into past [and think about] why he was dropped. We got the required clearance from PCB before picking him. He is a good batsman and there is always a place for him in the squad.”
Fast bowler Mohammad Irfan had picked up hamstring and calf injuries on the tour of England in the only match he played and has been left out. Mohammad Hafeez was also out of consideration due to injury. Amad Butt, the 21-year old uncapped seamer, was the only player dropped from the squad that played England.
Left-arm seamer Rumman Raees, who was named to play the World T20 but was later injured, and batting allrounder Saad Nasim, who has not played for Pakistan in over a year, have found a place in the 15-member squad.
Nasim was picked for tactical reasons. “We want to take a chance with a legspinner against West Indies,” Ahmed said. “And observing him in the national circuit, I think he can give us some variety as he is also a solid batsman.”
Raees has been earmarked as a future prospect. “Rumman on other hand is booming fast bowler and we want to keep him on line with the national squad,” Ahmed said. “He had been outstanding at the domestic level and we want him to be in contention.”
Pakistan’s new T20 captain Sarfraz Ahmed had led them to one of their most emphatic victories in the format, against England on Wednesday, to round off the tour.
Pakistan squad: Sarfraz Ahmed (capt), Khalid Latif, Sharjeel Khan, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam, Mohammad Nawaz, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz, Hasan Ali, Sohail Tanvir, Rumman Raees, Umar Akmal, Saad Nasim

I think after an impressive rundown in domestic, he deserves it. He probably will fill in for Babar Azam.

Wuts the schedule?

If UA does well in T20Is, he will probably be selected for ODIs as well. in fact we need him

Re: Pakistan v West Indies - Umar Akmal returns to Pakistan's T20 squad

It'll be a good contest and Pakistan must do nothing less than great to win the series if not all. WI is the world champion. Its not going to be easy.

Remember, its world cup inclusion at stake. Lose some matches more and the WC will be just like IPL for Pak.

There are few things we may need to take care for WI vs Pak series...ahem ahem

It will be more embarrassing than anything else, I dont doubt for one moment that they will be in the world cup the question is will they have to qualify or not?

Re: Pakistan v West Indies - Umar Akmal returns to Pakistan's T20 squad

From team that is selected (rightly or wrongly), players that can be replaced from playing 11 of T20I are bowlers, Sohail Tanveer and/or Mohammed Amir.

As for Babar Azam, last match was his first, and in his first match he made 15 runs in 11 balls without getting out. So, his performance was not bad and it would be unjust to drop him from playing 11.

I would certainly like to see Babar Azam playing, as I think he is better batsman than Umar Akmal but time would tell, as he is still 21 and played fewer games.

Anyhow, It is possible to drop Mohammed Rizwan, as his overall performance is not as good in T20I as Umar Akmal, though I believe Rizwan could be better player than Umar Akmal for ODIs.

Shaadi kaay baad tu baRay baRay “Samjhdaar” ho jatay hain..

Re: Pakistan v West Indies - Umar Akmal returns to Pakistan's T20 squad

Not a good decision in my opinion as he is a known trouble maker. I hope he doesn't rub off the same crap to his cousin Babar Azam who is a very talented batsman and has a very bright future ahead of him.

But having said that, he has been in tremendous form in the on going National T20 cup. It's only fair to recall him once he has performed in domestic cricket.

Re: Pakistan v West Indies - Umar Akmal returns to Pakistan's T20 squad

There should be transparent policy. If the selection criteria is domestic cricket and he performed well , he should be given chance . Regarding the disciplinary issues , I doubt he is going to imrpove. He need to understand that the days of shoaib akhtar style discipline are gone..

Re: Pakistan v West Indies 2016September 9, 2016Umar Akmal returns to Pakistan's T20

i dont think so ..... this is the problem with pakistni cricket. they keep on bringing back useless players. give a player with talent fair amount of chances and then make a case about him. if he has character issue, it aint gonna change. if he is mentally weak, he will always be weak.

this guy whatever his name is, should not play for pakistan anymore. he has been given over 100 chances and he has failed eveytime. there is absolutely serious issue with his batting temperament. he cannot play a big innings especially under pressure. period. and he has serious disciplinary issues all his life and he will never change.

he has not won Pakistan a single game. he brings a lot of issues into the dressing room. so why are we betting on him again?

Re: Pakistan v West Indies - Umar Akmal returns to Pakistan's T20 squad

Why? Because he is a parchi
