Pakistan v West Indies ODI series: Memo

congrats to Pak…but fundamental issues with our batting are still there except we have made few strategic remedies such as UA playing as keeper…we have to play umar akmal as keeper…ask him to practice practice practice and some more practice as keeper…that brings an immediate balance to the team…moin khan is saying that I want a regular keeper…idiot decision if he does that. UA needs to play as a keeper..PERIOD

haris has shown potential…invest in him.

afridid remains a strategic liability until we find a better all-rounder..that shd be our no 1 priority..prepare a world class all rounder for the world cup..DO NOT INVEST IN AFRIDI FOR THE WC '15…and NO, whab riaz or sohail tanveer are not the answer.

Hafeez is USELESSS with the bat and will always remain useless outside subcontinent no matter what…so he will be a complete wastage of a spot for the WC in Aus…but he bowls well and gives skipper a lot of balance with the bowling options…OK for now

Nasir jamshed is a freakin Dhol and biggest shame on the name of fitness…but a good player nonetheless…so we need him. Ask him to fix his fitness..he looks ugly in pakistani uniform!

Junaid and Irfan are both good…ajmal needs a bit of break..what happened to charsi rehman? is he still on charas or can he play?

Wahab Riaz is not a world class bowler..too one dimensional and can only hit the deck hard…that’s all he knows…kick him out..

asad ali will be good in australia/NZ/England. he has some potential to become mohammad asif with more practice. I would prefer asad ali over wahab…but try to find a a better third seamer …but DO NOT BRING BACK UMAR GUL TO TESTS OR ODIS…maybe t20s…he can bowl yorkers for 3-4 overs..no fitness beyond that

re: Pakistan v West Indies ODI series: Memo

Agree, a useless bowler of ODI and Test :k: In his absence talented bowlers can make their place in team

re: Pakistan v West Indies ODI series: Memo

Looks like Pakistan won the series against your expectation and you were going to post a poisonous post about it but Pakistan won the series and you are not able to digest it and unable to change your wording for players. Anyways, I'd like to know what makes you bring Nasir's fitness up? Did he misfield a lot in the game(s)?

re: Pakistan v West Indies ODI series: Memo

Dude! Why you called Nasir a DHOL??? and stop calling him ugly. He is the next Inz,i okkkk!?

and yes UA is really good with keeping…they should just keep him…

and fingers crossed..Muhammad Aamir will be back for WC2015 (or am I jst dreaming :hinna: )

re: Pakistan v West Indies ODI series: Memo

Why prepare a world class allrounder for WC15 When we already have Shoaib Malik ?

Bring Shoaib Malik backkk please

re: Pakistan v West Indies ODI series: Memo

Nasir has horrible horrible fitness...not sure how can you deny that....he is a liability in the field...it is not about how many catches he dropped...in test matches misbah can place him right at silly point but in ODIs, nasir needs to be placed on boundaries and he cannot run fast, he cannot bend fast...from day 1 commentators are commenting on his match fitness...and he has not shown any improvement by losing any weight.

re: Pakistan v West Indies ODI series: Memo

keep living in your afridi bubble! lit will burst soon and this time for good! lol

re: Pakistan v West Indies ODI series: Memo

he is not ugly…i meant to say he makes our uniform look ugly..bottom-line he really needs to work on his fitness…he moves too slow in the field…his posture when he picks the ball and throws is not like an Internationale player…he is a good batsman so we need him but he needs to improve his fitness

re: Pakistan v West Indies ODI series: Memo

Hahaha someone is really jealoused of :afridi: :omg:

Yes just like you were living in Malik’s bubble and instead of the bubble going upwards it bursted very soon lol

re: Pakistan v West Indies ODI series: Memo

Muhammad amir is a cheater and cheaters should not be given second chance.

Pakistan winning the series against West Indies - take aways!

:salam:

So a great victory after a long dry spell for Pakistan’s ODI team!

Misbah’s well deserved Man of the Series award must be a great boost for his “morale” as well (about time Pak’s skipper earned a morale booster on merit alone )

Please share your thoughts, NO bashing of individuals please!!

Here are my thoughts:

A point to note is Afridi’s record breaking comeback. He needs to deliver more often however, a one time big performance was always his hallmark and if he doesn’t change now then when?

Umar Akmal’s inclusion as a W/k batsman has definitely proved to be a successful test by the selection committee and team management. The wicket keeping seems to be boosting his confidence as well. The no. of times Pakistan fields first, that will always give Umar an advantage since he would know how the pitch is performing.
Umar is also a strong candidate for VC in my mind since he can be groomed to be next skipper. A wicket keeper captain will serve Pakistan well in the near future.
The biggest thing this should provide Umar is maturity by seeing others bat from behind the stumps, he will see the best, the average and the poor.

Haris Sohail seems to be a bright prospect and he needs to be given a chance at the test level as well. He is not rash and seems to have a balanced style. However we have not see enough of him yet.

Hafeez, well, what can we say. If he is to remain in the ODI team then it has to be at no 5 or 6 as an all rounder only.

Wahab is not as good as his colleagues. He needs to go play domestic cricket and be on the bench as back only.

Asad Ali although needs a lot more exposure however his addition provides the much needed right hand option to Pakistan. Too many left handed pacers in the team already.

Asad Shafiq, please limit him to test cricket and as bench strength for ODIs. Asad is a good solid batsmen, however Misbah’s old style was also making Asad defensive.

What else?..I would like to hear your thoughts.

Re: Pakistan winning the series against West Indies - take aways!

A gripping series which could have gone either way. Misbah deserved the man of the series award for doing what was required in essentially modest run chases. Misbah proving once again that he is the backbone of our batting, imo he is playing the role Miandad and Inzamam played for Pakistan batting at 4. He is averaging over 50 this year.

Don’t need drastic changes in the team but** one of the two Hafeez or Afridi needs to go** as otherwise it upsets the balance of the team.** Neither is consistent with the bat** and it would be better if Pak play another specialist batsman.

Misbah batting at #4 has resulted in a healthy transformation in his approach. At #5 he was playing just too many dot balls (because of the earlier pressure) and messing up run chases

While Misbah is solid and calm, talent and technique-wise, Umar Akmal is Pakistan’s best limited overs batsman. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind about that. His problem is temperament like yesterday just before the rain break he played an unnecessary (almost premeditated) lofted drive having already hit a 6 and 4 in that over by Tino Best. That six off Best was an outstanding shot. He showed why he should never have been dropped for CT. Umar Akmal reminded me of Miandad with his deft placements and shot selection, he should bat at 5 and Hafeez or Afridi at 7. And we should not destroy UA’s potential by making him keep wickets on a regular basis. This should be a stopgap arrangement not a long-term move. Let’s not compare UA with Gilchrist/Sangakkara/Dhoni. The latter are all specialist keepers who are gifted batsmen as well. UA on the other hand is a specialist batsman who can keep wickets as well (adequate keeper like Miandad or Younis but not a specialist in that field). It is not UA’s fault that we lack a specialist keeper at the moment who can bat as well. The one’s who have been tried so far (Adnan, Sarfraz etc.) are okish with the bat.

Shehzad showcased his talent in the 5th ODI. The L/R opening combo of Jamshed-Shehzad should be persisted with in both ODI and T20 cricket. The opening partnership should be given a long run. It has potential.

Overall a win delivered by the bowlers - don’t forget Windies possess some of the most brutal hitters in world cricket - but batsmen did a decent job too. On the evidence of this series, cool Misbah is very much needed in ODIs.

This should be our team in ODIs:

  • Jamshed
  • Shehzad
  • Haris Sohail or Asad
  • Misbah-ul-Haq (c)
  • Umar Akmal (w/k for now)
  • Another specialist batsman
  • Afridi or Hafeez
  • Saeed Ajmal
  • Asad Ali or Umar Gul (? a better death bowler than some of the others) or even Rehman
  • Junaid
  • Irfan
