Yeah that’s possible. The other reason could be they must have been hoping Jamshed to get some runs against UAE so he can gain some much needed confidence before the SA game and facing the likes of Styen/Morkel/Abbot. But predictably, Jamshed failed again.
Seeing Waqar’s press conference after the game, he clearly said they think Sarfraz is an asset to the team but they don’t want to ruin his career by sending him to open on these pitches as his technique isn’t suitable in Aus/NZ conditions. They really need to sit down and get Haris to come in as opener. That will relieve Umar Akmal of his wicket keeping duties, and also strengthen the fielding with the absence of Jamshed in the field and addition of Umar Akmal.
