On thing also becomes clear that SA attack in the absence of Steyn, Philander and Morkel is very ordinary. The second string is ordinary and spin virtually non existent. Boycott is right when he says SA will have great difficulty holding on to no 1 position because they are not going to get bouncy and fast wickets everywhere.
agreed...their attack was badly exposed today
but on your second point, SA has done well on slow pitches as welll....read India...styen was able to generate enough pace and some reverse swing..morkel still got some bounce.....that being said, they need a quality spinner but i doubt they will ever have one.....they were playing imran tahir as a hero spinner! lol.. Clarrkie and hussey finished him in one day
I also think their batting is strong enough to bail them out when their bowling fails....that is why we could not destroy them in UAE the way we did England..amla, kallis and ADB are best players of spin
Overall, i think SA will do well next few years c*oz they have no competition.*.. and bycott missed that point...
aussies, completely pathetic and rebuilding.. next 4+ years they are done...DONE
india, well not sure what to say more coz uncle southie will kill me...but they are a lame duck for now....DONE
sri lanka is abt to lose jaywardna and dilshan in next few months and sanga in next 12 months....DONE
Pak is finished coz its batting has no hopes esepcilaly after younis leaves.....DONE
NZ and WI....no comments required! DONE
so all we have is England.... and SA can handle them
Re: Pakistan v South Africa - 2nd T20 - Mar 3, 13
Excellent sportsmanship presented by Muhammed Hafeez. Afridi played bit responsible this time. I do think however that..Pakistan as a team needs to improve on Test format of the cricket.

Disagree on your opinion on Aus and Pak.
I have seen more batting talent in Pak since 2008 than I have ever seen in my life, many batsmen in domestic cricket are so far better than come of international batsmen Pak played like Ramiz Raja. Pak selectors in last few years focus more on pushing players from their cities/affiliations and making sure they get selected and seniors in the team join hands with them to make sure that new guys are not given consistent chances to prove themselves so that seniors (who perform and produce results against BD/WI/SL/Zim on challenging surfaces of Abu Dehbi/Sharjah/Dubai/WI/Zim/SL/India/BD) keep getting selected.
This is something I have been saying for years. People like Umar Akmal/Umar Amin/Ahmed Shahzad/Sharjil Khan/Hammad Azam/Gohar Ali (May be I am not getting the name right but that wicket keeper from Peshawar) don’t get to play often enough and result is that we fold against opponents like AUS/SA/Eng in challenging conditions when a senior knows that there wouldn’t be anything consequences of not producing a result as their next series is going to be in Abu Dehbi/Sharjah/Dubai/WI/Zim/SL/India/BD against mighty BD/WI/SL/Zim.
Re: Pakistan v South Africa - 2nd T20 - Mar 3, 13
Good Job Pakistan!
I was away the whole weekend and was pleasantly surprised to see the result.
Seems like the team played with all the old timers as well as new stars..read Shehzad. And Mr. profesur showing he can bat when he is not challenged with excellent fast swinging bowling...LOL..
Any how good for the team to get a good win, boost their confidence for ODIs..although Misbah sahab will be back for those.
Re: Pakistan v South Africa - 2nd T20 - Mar 3, 13
This was a great show by team Pakistan… Big Congratulations. Hope this trend continues during the ODIs as well!

i dont follow younger generation back home as I used to..so maybe we have great talent in pipeline. You may be right because i have recently read artciles in Pakistani press which suggested that our selection has become highly corrupted with strong regional bias....anyway my comment was based on what we have seen in last 4 years and other than asad and azhar, nothing really emerged....

but what is basis of your statements?
how do you know this is an exceptional batting talent?
how can you say that people like Umar Akmal/Umar Amin/Ahmed Shahzad/Sharjil Khan/Hammad Azam/Gohar Ali are amazing?
all i know that umar amin failed miserably in England ...he averages 12 after 4 test matches...
most of the players that you mentioned average below 40 even in Pakistani first class cricket ..sharjeel, umar amin, hamaad azam ....
when you compare their first class record to young indian batsmen, difference is mind boggling..pujara, kohli, murli vijay, rahina, all average above 50.... and most of these young indian abstmen are struggling to establish themselves on international front in alien conditions..you see my point
i am not trying to be argumentative..just legitimately curious..that is all..i wud for luv you to be true
Re: Pakistan v South Africa - 2nd T20 - Mar 3, 13
so maybe we have great pipeline.
I hear the pipeline related master limited partnership (MLPs) have gone up a lot in price. While their yield is still higher than the 10-yr Treasury, is it possible the pipeline greatness is fully reflected in current prices and then some?

Personal opinion based on following game for 20 some years now and it is easy to spot how good these guys are when you are watching these guys play as batsmen and not watching cricket as Miandad/Anwar/Inzimam fan first, this way it is easier to see how good these guys are.
Umar Akmal: I am not going to say any more than what I have already said many times on KK. I honestly believe that Pak has never produced a better batting talent than UA, the guy who can score runs against any bowling line up, great against both pace and spin, only batsman who comes close to UA was saeed anwar. In early 2010 an indian friend of mine asked how do I compare UA with VK and I told him that even though right now UA looks better batsmen than Virat, but in 4 years from now VK will be ahead of UA not because he is (at that moment in Jan 2010) better batsman than UA but because he would not have to deal with politics from senior cricketers in the team, selectors/coach who will mess up UA advancement/growth as batsman.
*Umar Amin: * I am such a big fan of amin, unfortunately he was thrown into the deep end without any thoughts behind on how to help him evolve as an international players, If I were captain/coach of those tests that amin played, I would have not batted him at 4, right after Azhar ali, you had a situation where with "solid openers" as Farhat in the 11 and right after openers were Azhar Ali @ 3 and Amin at 4, so almost every time amin went into bat he had the partner at the other end who was also trying to make into the squad regularly...and amin was always little over cautious and didnt play to his potential...not to forget, it was on one of the most challenging wickets that Pak has played in last 5 years. I would have played Akmal between Azhar and Amin, this would have released a bit of pressure on both Azhar and amin and would have gone long way in amin's development as a player.
Ahmed Shahzad: I first saw this guy against AUS in UAE in 2009 and then in T20WC2009. He was raw but looked good, but he got labeled as a rebellion and bit of "shoukeeen munda"
==== this is what I wrote about him in Jan 2010 ====
I really liked to look of this guy after seeing him in UAE and then in T20, he is very raw, but to me I'd have given him more chances last season than given them to Butt to get one 100 out of him and I am very +ive that he would have given us more than what Butt gave us.
So on one hand we have Ahmed Shahzad, who likes to drink alcohol, go visit night clubs and is talented on ground, but since he drinks/does not treat seniors in the team/ex cricketers who have retired in last few years/selectors who are in selection committee by their TC'ing and based on their city affiliations as prophets of cricket and god's gift to Pak cricket) we are not going to give him chances to prove his worth on ground.
On the other hand we have people like BUTT, Misbah, Farhat, Who are tried, tested failed over and over and over again BUT they obey team curfew, make sure to do Sajda whenever they reach a milestone...so we keep them in side and give them constant chances.
No Wonder Pak cricket is in as bad conditions as it is!!! No wonder at all!!
Sharjeel Khan: The real unfortunate one...I think, his biggest disadvantage is that he is from Hyderabad....I honestly feel terrible for this guy, Let me first start by telling you when I first saw him, it was in Pak T20 tournament couple of years ago, the way he was treating all the bowlers was just eye opening, he was really really quick at picking up the length of the ball and he had real good hand eye coordination, he dominated the bowling that he faced in such a way that reminded me of Adam Gilchrist, especially the way he hoicked the balls over mid wicket and how good/punishing he was on the short balls.
Now Pak is the only place where "ex cricketers/cricket experts" who will present a players strength as his weakness just so they can push other guy who is either from their city or is related to them or has connection that helped that cricket expert get where he is...either in some position within PCB (Coach/Selector) or on some news channel as a cricket expert. So Sharjeel was not taken on next Pak tour (which was of Zimbabwe in 2011) and one guy who made it to the tour was the commentator for that T20 in which sharjeel played like a royalty.
The excuse that the genius MHK gave and was heard via other media people that Sharjeel is too much of an on side player...those geniuses were not able to process the fact that it was Sharjeel's good hand eye coordination which was enabling him to pick up length of the ball too early and also that the quality of bowlers was not so good to keep challenging so he kept hitting most of his scoring shots on the on side. So they were able to turn (what to me looked like)his biggest strength into a weakness and keep him outside. Another guy who scored some runs in that T20 cup was Ramiz Raja who got taken to that Zimb tour, but anyone would tell you that he looked like an onside slogger (thats what they called sharjeel and kept him him and took Ramiz) but Ramiz was not from Hyderabad so he got to tour.
I honestly believe that he is very very unfortunate to have the talent that he does and perhaps his chances of Playing for Pak are very very slim as he will always miss out on being from Hyderabad and not having the support from people like Iqbal Qasim, Wasim Bari, MHK, Salim Jaffar, Sikandar Bakhat, Moin Khan, Abdul Qadir, Mohammad Ilyaas etc etc and media Cheys like Yahya Hussaini, Faizan Lakhani, abdul majeed bhatti and this cult of Ex cricketers and media Cheys will not go in favor of this guy from Hyderabad.

But I hear "there are intelligent people in SA cricket".
With big hearts who always welcome their guests :D
OTOH, Afridi performance was like "to be continued...." . neither good nor bad, so we will have to wait for another T20 to judge him. I hope waleed has my payment ready

thx Nikema....looks like you have been following these cricketers very closely..i was merely reflecting on their career statistics numbers ... which is never the best way to judge the talent anyway. If sharjeel is really that good ... it s pity he did not get a single chance
