Re: Pakistan v Northampton
Ehsan Bhai…I think the reason they called Taufeeq was to keep him in reserve if Butt or Farhat get injured. With Malik flying back to Pakistan, there is no other opener in the squad…as opening with Akmal in test matches would not be possible because he has to keep all day for who knows how many days with this kind of bowling attack…and this move obviously shows they are not interested in using Iqbal as an opener…and I dont mind. Not every batsman is an opener and maybe he doesn’t want to open anyway as he excels when playing the medium pacers and spinners.
Even though I agree Butt should be dropped, but due to lack of options, I would still prefer him over the likes of Hameed and Taufeeq untill Malik is fit again…at least he was doing better than Butt, even though Farhat and Malik have the same problem…giving it away after getting a start. Butt sahib is yet to get a start.

Vice-captain Younis Khan returns from injury to lead the tourists in their four-day match at Northampton.
Younis, 28, missed the drawn first Test at Lord’s due to a knee niggle which lingered longer than expected.
However, he will take over the leadership from Inzamam-ul-Haq, one of a handful of Pakistan players resting following the exertions last week.
Also resting are Abdul Razzaq, troubled by a back problem, Danish Kaneria and their star batsman Mohammad Yousuf.
Coach Bob Woolmer welcomed the resumption of Younis’ tour, amid praise for the way the injury-hit Pakistanis dug in throughout the npower series opener.
“He is 100% fit and will be back and firing, which is very good news for us,” said Woolmer.
“The positives of the Test were that we didn’t crumble in the face of a large total, that we continued the fighting spirit we have shown over the last 18 months and that we are still in the series with a chance of winning.”
The Pakistan tour management are still mulling over bringing in temporary recruits for the tour, who are playing club cricket over here, with off-spinner Arshad Khan among those under consideration.
Left-arm medium pacer Kamran Hussain will not be joining, however, after initial contact was made.
The three new additions to the tourists’ full-time ranks - Taufeeq Umar, Samiullah Niazi and Rao Iftikhar Anjum - will all face Northants and should not need long to acclimatise.
With temperatures in the mid-30s, conditions are not dissimilar from the ones they operate in during their own domestic seasons.
“It’s very much like Pakistan,” said manager Zaheer Abbas. “We are quite used to this weather.” Razzaq’s back problem is not likely to put him in doubt for the second Test starting on 27 July.

This is the sort of thing - which I kept on mentioning sometime ago at the quality of the backup bowlers available for Pakistan when the first choice bowlers are not available.
Yes - you may be right that this is the sort of bowling line up Pakistan may have in future. Shoiab haven't got many years left in him and obviously as he gets older he wouldn't be as effective; Rana - I don't think is as good as a bowler people make him to be; Asif has potential but still plenty to prove; Sami - may be history. This leaves us with the likes of Asif, Gul, Niazi and Rao Iftikhar etc.
However, I hope they can groom younger bowlers especially from the under 19 squad; however there is a always possibility that they may be wasted and not treated properly with selection process.
Re: Pakistan v Northampton
i like jamshad ahmed, he bowled pretty well at around 83-84mph, and had pretty good control, he shud have been called up.
the whole system is messed up now, they want to groom people all of a sudden, they forget that inzi, wasim, waqar, abdul qadir, werent even in the reckoning for a place, and look what they achieved, we wont find players like that anymore.
Re: Pakistan v Northampton
I think Jannisar khan can be seen in action in this match

I am sure there are plenty of naturally gifted players around and they can be found if the will was there. Yes you are correct to an extent that these types of players won't be discovered by just sitting behind your office desk. The captain and other members of team management need to show confidence in picking such players.
Maybe the likes of Waqar Younis etc would have been wasted if it wasn't for Imran Khan to discover him and give him the place in the side.
I don't think you will get this as long as Inzi is around - as he will just call his mates over when he needs them and offer them all expenses paid overseas trip.
Re: Pakistan v Northampton
lol, ya he just likes spending time with Arshad and Mushi.
Re: Pakistan v Northampton
Samiullah is almost definitly going to play in the next match, he sucks just like sami so it wont make too much a difference.
