it was clever bowling nonetheless Saby whoever bowled it. Ganguly’s a smart captain and Shoaib Malik could do the same to their left handers. The Pak think-tank need to work out a way of countering the strategy in any case. Was Akram’s left-handed slogging would have been a perfect answer in the past ![]()
Nehra out of Pakistan one-dayers](Yahoo is part of the Yahoo family of brands.)
RAWALPINDI, Pakistan (AFP) - India’s already depleted bowling resources on the Pakistan tour were hit further when Ashish Nehra was ruled out for the rest of the one-day series.
The left-arm seamer received two stitches when he split the webbing of his bowling hand while fielding during the second one-dayer here and will not play for at least a week, team official Amrit Mathur said Tuesday.
“Nehra’s injury will be assessed next week to see if he can play in the Test series which follows the one-dayers,” Mathur said.
Nehra was supposed to have missed Tuesday’s match as well after an old ankle injury flared up again on the eve of the match and the team management declared his unavailability for the game.
But the bowler, whose spot-on final over won India the first one-dayer at Karachi on Saturday, was surprisingly retained in the team and finished with 3-44 in Pakistan’s total of 329-6.
Nehra will sit out of the third one-dayer in Peshawar on Friday and the last two in Lahore on March 21 and 24.
India are already without three injured frontline bowlers, seamer Ajit Agarkar and spinners Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh, on their first full tour of Pakistan since 1989.
The squad for the three-Test series, which begins on March 28, is expected to be picked next
Big blow for India Nehra being out. Agarkar and Harbajhan would have got pulverised anyway, but Nehra's bowled well in this series.
In all honesty, India's seam attack is pretty weak whoever bowls. Most of them can only bowl at the end of the innings. When they open the attack they are much worse than our guys nb's and wides discounted.

Peshawar has got dead pitch. We may not see 300 runs from either side.

Dead pitches mean "batting friendly", right? Then why 300+ won't be possible? or did you mean lively, bouncy pitch?
Don't know much about cricket so thought I'd ask you all...
Is Pakistan doing better or worse than what you expected?
Is India doing better or worse than what you expected?
From these two games, does it look like Pakistan has a pretty good chance of winning?
Thanks.

stick to non-sport topics please. sports seems to be a little complicated to you. j/k.
Nehra is a plus and a minus. The plus is his bowling. But he has a terrible throw and is the world's worst no:11. I knew as soon as he walked out to bat that it was over. Powar should have taken Moin's example and not let Nehra face the bowler. As we know from the first match, after malik was out moin wandered back to his crease but was sent to the other end by an alert umpire. The other alert umpire at the other end sent him right back, and this continued for some time till both alert umpires forgot which end was the right end. Similarly Powar should have wandered back and forth until the umpire sent him to the right end (meaning:wrong end).

This has been discussed here but I don’t think it was posted. So, here it is.
As usual the almost prophetic Dr. Abbasi makes some very good points. What I really like about his writing is how he often seems to write about everything the average fan feels.

What a match. What an occasion. What a blunder. The Karachi match will go down in legend - Sharjah in 1986 is perhaps its only peer. But should the magic of the moment excuse the muddle of your strategy?
Imran Khan used to say that bits and pieces don’t produce success. And he proved it by winning the World Cup with four front-line bowlers - a match you both played in. The fifth bowler was an opener who bowled more than competently, your recent adversary Aamer Sohail. Five decent bowlers, but even that wasn’t enough, for there were times when Pakistan needed a sixth - and Ijaz Ahmed’s round-armers were suprisingly effective.
Yes, there have been ups and downs since that time, but Pakistan has been a successful one-day side, particularly on the batting tracks of Asia and Sharjah. A success built on destructive bowling, daring batting, and a canny sixth option. Yes, cricket has progressed since Imran’s days … but your thinking has suddenly jumped backwards.
Your mantra is bits and pieces and more bits and pieces. This will not wash. Your public is bemused, confused, and angry. **They can see that Abdul Razzaq is half the bowler he once was. Why can’t you? They can see that Shoaib Malik is useful, but not a wicket-taker. Why don’t you? They can see that Mohammad Sami is just as likely to implode as he is to explode. Why won’t you? They can see that there is no need for nine batsmen. Why not you? And they can see that Pakistan need at least three front-line bowlers and a sixth option, but you resist this obvious strategy. Too many batsmen are spoiling this broth. **
History is marked with heroic failures. Yet Karachi need not have been one. Indeed India helped you by fielding even fewer bowlers than you did. Yet your plight is less troublesome than India’s, because you do have bowlers to call on, and you have many more allrounders.
Risk a little. Drop a batsman and choose a fast bowler or a high-class spinner: medium-pacers will not unsettle this Indian batting. Risk a little: go for daring over orthodoxy. **Why waste Imran Nazir, or even Shahid Afridi, both of whom could devour this Indian bowling? Risk a little. Shove Abdul Razzaq up the order or throw in a pinch-hitter - go on the attack. Risk a little. Why not back the form of Taufeeq Umar? He could become your very own Rahul Dravid. **
You are blessed with choices. Why not use six of them? **Australia beat India with all-out attack. Why not follow them? Dare to win guys, don’t lose sight of how to dare. Bits and pieces don’t work for Pakistan. **
uhhh really shaarabi?? wait but it depends on where u r...i think....but the one in lahore is on sat
sorry guys!!! i just checked again....i guess i was thinking about the 4th one!!!
Key changes
lets take moin out and give the gloves to yasir hameed....
and bring in an extra batsman....
what do u say????
^ Seeing how poorly Dravid was keeping wickets yesterday, I wouldn't go down the road. An extra batsman may score 10-30 runs.. but the keeper will give a lot more in byes and missed run-outs, dropped catches maybe, and by not stopping conversion of ones to twos and twos to threes.
Umar back for Pakistan](BBC SPORT | Cricket | Pak v Ind | Umar back for Pakistan)
Pakistan have called up opening batsman Taufeeq Umar for the third one-day international against India in Peshawar on Friday.
Umar has been drafted in after hitting 104 when Pakistan A beat India in their warm-up game last week.
He replaces Misbah-ul-Haq, who did not play in either of the first two matches in the series.
The selectors have also left uncapped all-rounder Rao Iftikhar out of their 15-man squad.
Umar’s cause was recently championed by former Pakistan captain Imran Khan.
“Had I been the captain I would have put him in the team straight away,” Imran told the BBC Urdu service last weekend.
The left-hander is a regular in the Pakistan Test side but averages only 26 in one-day internatioanls and has been out of favour since last year’s triangular series in Sri Lanka.
His return gives Pakistan a choice of four openers for the game in Peshawar, a ground where they have never previously played India in a one-day international.
Yasir Hameed and Imran Farhat opened in the first game at Karachi, which India won by five runs, with Shahid Afridi replacing Farhat for Tuesday’s victory in Rawalpindi.
**Pakistan squad for third one-day match v India: Inzamam-ul-Haq (capt), Shahid Afridi, Yasir Hameed, Yousuf Youhana, Younis Khan, Abdul Razzaq, Shoaib Malik, Moin Khan (wkt), Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Sami, Shabbir Ahmed, Saqlain Mushtaq, Naved-ul-Hasan, Imran Farhat, Taufeeq Umar. **
Recalling Umar is a great move and he should play at Peshawar instead of Younis Khan. My team for the Peshawar would be:
Yasir
Afridi
Umar
Youhanna
Inzi
Razzaq
Malik
Moin
Shoaib
Shabbir
Sami
Taufeeq is a gem and has been kept out of the ODI side for no good reason. As I have said earlier the player who should make way for the lion-hearted Umar is Younis Khan a palyer whose only quality seems to be playing second fiddle to a real match winner.
