Pakistan V India - 1st Test Match.

Congratulations to the Indians and well played. For Pakistan back to the drawing board. I agree with FG this attack is neither awesome nor penetrating.

Great Job Boys

First Test, Multan:
Pakistan 407 all out & 216 all out, India 675-5 dec. India win by an innings and 52 runs

India needed just two overs on the final day of the first Test to wrap up their maiden Test victory in Pakistan.

Young paceman Irfan Pathan dismissed Yousuf Youhana for 112 as India won by an innings and 52 runs.

Indian leg-spinner Anil Kumble finished with 6-72 as Pakistan were all out for 216 in their second innings.

The key to the visitors’ success was their mammoth 675-5, in which Virender Sehwag scored India’s first Test triple-hundred.

India were captained by Rahul Dravid, who was filling in for the injured Sourav Ganguly, and he was understandably ecstatic about the result.

“It feels fantastic, it feels fantastic to lead a side that won the first Test in Pakistan,” said Dravid.

"We are very happy to have won this Test match and we will take the time off to celebrate as we should.

I want to thank the guys because they really gave their best

More Indian reaction

“But we have got our feet firmly on the ground and we know Pakistan will come back strong in the next Test match.”

Pakistan started the day nine wickets down and when the end came it was swift.

Youhana, who started the day on 107 not out, was the only reason the match had made it to the final day but he lasted just two overs on Thursday before top-edging a pull off the ever-willing Pathan to stand-in captain Dravid.

Four mornings previously Dravid had won the toss and elected to bat.

Sehwag promptly threw down the gauntlet, blazing his way to the highest Test score by an Indian.

He put on 336 with Sachin Tendulkar (194 not out) for the third wicket as India ran up 675-5 declared.

Kumble now has 390 Test victims

On a placid pitch victory was by no means assured and when Pakistan lost Youhana to lie 321-5 in their first innings the draw still looked a strong possibility.

However, the hosts lost Moin Khan to the last ball of the third day and then collapsed on the morning of the fourth day, losing their last six wickets for just 86 runs.

Pathan was the star of the Indian attack, taking four wickets, and he was again a threat in the second innings.

The 19-year-old ended with 2-26 off 21 overs, but the chief destroyer was veteran leg-spinner Kumble, who has now snared 390 Test victims.

He ended up with 6-72, overtaking Ian Botham in the all-time list in the process, as Pakistan were dismissed for just 216 in their second innings.

Only Youhana stood between India and a four-day victory, and when they returned on the final day even he seemed to have run out of resistance, hoicking a Pathan delivery straight up in the air to give India a long-awaited first Test win away to their neighbours.

You were right.
can you tell my future too??

sigh

on the day of the last ODI, imran khan had commented on how india lacked the firepower to bowl out the pakistanis twice once it came to tests, and how pak clearly held an upper hand there. would have been interesting to check whether his views have changed much - especially after indians bowled pak out twice with a whole day to spare, on a pitch like this.
His views probably have changed. At the time i doubt he'd have seen much of Irfan Pathan who has pretty much transformed the Indian attack. Zaheer Khan and the rest are not really all that special. Bear in mind too that they were bowling to Paki batsmen while we were bowling to Indian who are of a much better calibre so it's not just down to bowlers.

We not finished yet, says India’s Pakistan-conquering captain](Yahoo is part of the Yahoo family of brands.)

MULTAN, Pakistan (AFP) - India’s stand-in captain Rahul Dravid described the maiden Test win on Pakistan soil as one of his nation’s best triumphs abroad, then warned the arch-rivals he was not finished yet.

“It ranks pretty highly, but we want to win the series as well,” said Dravid, who led India in the absence of injured Sourav Ganguly in their first Test match in Pakistan since 1989.

The tourists won the Multan Test by an innings and 52 runs as Pakistan, following on 268 runs behind, were dismissed for 216 in their second knock in the second over on the fifth and final day on Thursday.

In previous tours of Pakistan between 1954 and 1989, India had lost five Tests and drew the remaining 15 in what is regarded as the ultimate rivaly in world cricket.

India, who rode on Virender Sehwag’s 309 and an unbeaten 194 from Sachin Tendulkar to hit 675-5 declared, bowled out Pakistan twice on a barren wicket slammed by critics as being heavily tilted in favour of batsmen.

“We will celebrate as we should after such a great win, but our feet are on the ground,” Dravid said.

"We know Pakistan will come back hard in the remaining two Tests and we will be ready for that.

“We can’t afford to let up. Winning a series outside India is long overdue but I know we are on the right track.”

India have not won a Test series away from home since 1993 when they beat Sri Lanka and are still seeking their first series win outside the sub-continent since 1986 when they beat England.

"Our bowling attack is young and inexperienced but they showed great heart and a will to fight on a wicket that was not easy to bowl on.

"It is a special moment for us. Teams are not successful for one or two things. It is a combination of talent, determination and fighting spirit.

"I am surprised to some extent that we beat Pakistan in almost four days. I must admit the manner in which the wicket behaved in the first two days we thought it would be a tough fight for us.

“Irfan Pathan was superb and Anil Kumble proved his worth once again.”

Kumble, who took six second innings wickets, will return home for a few days to attend to his pregnant wife before flying back for the second Test starting in Lahore on Monday.

Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq said India played the better cricket and deserved to win, but stressed his team was not disheartened by the loss.

“A good session at Lahore will help us to bounce back in the series. We have done it in the past and I am confident we will do it again,” he said.

"The first Test was very important but we could not perform up to expectations. We will have to do extra hard work to come back in the series.

"There are still many weaknesses we must overcome. We need to field better, bowl better and be responsible while batting.

"The bowlers let us down. The Indians proved if you bowl well you can win on this pitch.

“I expected the batsmen to do well in the second innings, but no one showed the responsibility to stay at the wicket which was disappointing.”

How gay is this. Damn, Pakistani team collapses again. When are these folks going to wake up? Where is the ghairat?

Sanjay Majrekar to Navjot Sidhu, "We have dreamt about this stuff." Damn how sad is that. Pathetic. Did you guys see Navjot Sidhu claim India is the better side on any surface on any day. Total disrespect. But it was funny seeing Imran Khan cracking up.
India is the better side, you have got to be kidding me if you don't really believe that, about Imran cracking up.. well i am sure anybody would listening to Sidhuisms.

Arun, without a shadow of doubt the Indians outplayed us in every department from the first to the last ball.

My only worry is that can Pakistan bounce back from such a defeat within four days?

Well it is the change in attitude that has helped India go one notch higher. They always had the talent but this bunch is confident about it and is aggresive. Whereas Pakistan has seen a opposite transition where players seem much more doubtful about their own abilities, even though these new team looks full of talent.

there's no dearth of talent, it's the lack of leadership that's costing us dearly. At this time of crisis ( and that was an understatement) , we need a captain who can demonstrate strategy, authority and fighting spirit to bounce back and win matches. And I don't see that happening with Inzi as our captain, as much as I like the guy.

But hey, I am a strong believer in miracles. And with a team as unpredictable as ours, anything is possible, even a 2-1 series victory, Inshallah.

:crying:

:teary3:

I knew Youhanna won’t last long, he can’t play new ball, perhaps he is scared of a shiny object thrown at him.

Good luck to Pakistan for 2nd and 3rd test. I believe the series is headed for a tie if not for a Pakistan 2-1.
