looks like ECB had a plan in place.
Re: Pakistan v England A
I will definitely be surprised if Iqbal is omitted from the final X1 for next week. He deserves a place in line ahead of Afridi, who has failed to show any patience on his two last outings.
Re: Pakistan v England A
This is just a side match guys don't lose your hopes or don't get high hopes. It will be a draw. Inzi and boys are just awaking up after a long summer sleep. When comes the first test watch Inzi and co fly high :)
InshAllah.
I am too dishearted with the selection...specially the bowling department.

dhobi_bhai key liay article about Sami :). Kent’s captain calling Sami a match winner:

Stepping out of the shadows
By Jamie Lillywhite
Stepping into the shoes of Shoaib Akhtar is a formidable task, but one Mohammad Sami is eager to take on.
Shoaib is out of the four-Test series against England, which starts next week, because of an ankle problem and fellow seamer Rana Naved-ul-Hasan is also struggling with injury.
Their misfortune has given Sami a chance to relaunch his Test career after being dropped at the start of the year.
He gained useful experience of English conditions in two seasons with Kent in 2003-04 and that may have influenced the selectors in bringing him back for the tour
The 25-year-old’s 65 Test wickets so far have cost him 47 runs each, a mystifyingly poor return for a bowler who is highly rated by many of his peers.
Despite that, his former captain at Kent, David Fulton, believes he should not be underestimated by England.
"Sam’s a fine bowler in his own right but because Shoaib is probably a little bit quicker and maybe a bit more of a celebrity, he’s probably been in his shadow.
“He’s had a few niggles (as well) but if he’s fully fit he could have a big impact in this series, he’s a potential match-winner who swings the new ball and can reverse it as well,” Fulton told BBC Sport.
"When we needed to make things happen at Kent and he was in the mood, he rolled his sleeves up and could come hard at the batsmen so he’s got a bit about him.
“There was a little bit of a language barrier at times. He’s a slight guy for someone who bowls in the 90s, and the workload was quite tough so there were times when he bowled well within himself.”
Sami will have to contend with three left-handers at the top of the England order - Marcus Trescothick, Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook - and that is a plus for the home side, according to Fulton.
"There are times when his action is not quite right and he can go a bit leg-side. You can definitely score off him but he has the ability to produce a wicket-taking delivery at any time.
“I’d say he was probably better at the right-handers, especially when the ball is reversing.”
One of the batsmen Sami dismissed for Kent was Kevin Pietersen, who was caught hooking when he claimed 8-64 in a match against Notts at Trent Bridge in 2003.
The Tests against England are being played at Lord’s, Old Trafford, Headingley and The Oval, so where does Fulton think Sami will fare best?
“Because he’s quite a small guy, his bouncer on bouncy pitches is not a threat, so I don’t think he’d be much of a threat say at The Oval where you can get underneath it,” he said.
“Where he troubled players was on wickets that didn’t bounce that much and were quite abrasive, where his reverse ball and bumper could skid.”
Sami has had greater international success in one-day games, taking 109 wickets in 76 matches at only 28.37.
"He’s a wicket-taking bowler and sometimes he strives too much for the magic delivery, trying to knock the stumps down or get batsmen out with bumpers or yorkers, so sometimes he can get picked off.
“With the gaps in the field in one-day cricket he cogs the pace back a couple of notches and bowls line and length in an area, so can become more accurate and build pressure,” said Fulton.
Going into the series, however, the pressure to perform is all on Sami himself.
Re: Pakistan v England A
so it is safe to say that Mohammad Sami has cemented his place in the final XI whether it be test matches or ODI, only if he gets injured :D he will be replaced by our fav Ifti Rao :p
Faisal surely deserve a place in the team but I dont see him playing in the XI if Pakistan goes with 5-5 & 1, but with Farhat and Butt getting a swing with the new cherry means Pakistan might go with 6-4 & 1, I hope everything is alright with M. Asif and he is not injured since he didn't bat nor came to bowl.

Re: Pakistan v England A
^^I am sure we will open with Malik and Farhat.
Re: Pakistan v England A
I think acrobi bhai was talking about them bowling since he reduced a bowler based on that
Re: Pakistan v England A
Younis khan bowls medium pace pretty well. We also have Moh'd Yousuf.
Re: Pakistan v England A
Yes Truelies bhai thats what I mean't after seeing the scorecard Butt and Farhat were 1st and 2nd change in bowling dept in Eng-A 2nd innings.
<-----and Shukriya to the MOd's....and the Gupshup team for the title :D
Re: Pakistan v England A
Poor show with the bat by the batting line up. The big guns didnt fire at all. Yousaif atleast has a good score to his credit in the tour so far but Inzi needs to spend some time in the middle. Faisal Iqbal yet again grabbed the bull by the horns. Latley whenever he is given a chance has proved that he belongs at this level yet he just cant cement his place in the side due to a tightly packed middle order and an abundance of all rounders.
Team selections would be a problem for Pakistan. I think they will open with Butt and Malik with Younis Khan at #3. Farhat will probably sit out. The toss up would probably be between Afridi and Faisal and I think Afridi would probably luck out due to his good form in tests in the recent past plus the fact that he is a utility player given the captain another bowling option. In anycase the team needs to get the rust off quick and get ready for the depleted Engish team who will definatley try to avenge the loss that they sffered when they visited Pakistan plus try to make up for the crappy performance in the recntley concluded series against Sri Lanka.
Re: Pakistan v England A
Let's not forget our very own Shahid Khan Afridi as he can partner Younis well
Re: Pakistan v England A
LoL, he shud not play first test...I like his bouncers tho, he swings it quite well along with Younis.

** Injured Asif and Sami doubt for first Test

Mohammed Asif and Mohammad Sami, the Pakistan fast bowlers, have both sustained injuries to put their participation in the first Test against England on Thursday in doubt.
It had been expected that Asif would shoulder the responsibility of leading the bowling attack for Pakistan in the absence of Shoaib Akhtar (ankle) and Rana Naved-ul Hasan (groin). However according to reports in today’s Sunday Telegraph, Zaheer Abbas - the team’s tour manager - has confirmed Pakistan have called up Samiullah Niazi, the left-arm medium-pacer. Abbas commented that Asif was “almost certainly” out of the first Test due to an injury to his right elbow, which has received an injection.
To compound matters Sami was hit on the right knee while fielding for Pakistan on the final day of their warm-up game against England A at Canterbury.

Re: Pakistan v England A
has Inzi totally lost his mind. In the secon innings Sami and Gul has bowled 2 overs each. Salman Butt has bowled 20 and Farhat 20. Where is kaneria and Razzaq?
is this a new strategy from the brainless Inzi.
Re: Pakistan v England A
is this a new strategy from the brainless Inzi.
Calm down ehsan.
a) It's not Inzi's strategy, it's Bob Woolmer's. You don't believe that Inzimam walked into the park this morning immediately starting with Butt and Farhat on his own? It has to be on Woolmer's instructions.
b) I agree with this strategy, for reasons described below.
After England A decided not to enforce the follow on it was clear that they wanted to add a lot of more runs, occupy the crease for as long as they can, and DENY Pakistani batsmen a chance to get some much needed match practice, and gain some confidence. Sure they could have enforced the follow on, but on such a good wicket, it would have been unlikely that they could get Pakistan out cheaply a second time. However, by batting themselves, they tire our bowlers and fielders, and demoralize them during the course. That the batsmen get denied a chance to get some practice is a valueable bonus.
Now under these circumstances, it would have been silly for Pakistan to try and bowl out England A team by over exerting our main bowlers. And for what reason, even if we bowled them out, it would not give us enough time to scroe the runs needed and win the match, nor would it leave enough time for our batsmen to get some practice. So why tire our bowlers for a match already drawn?
Given that there is no likely result, and not much of a chance left to get some batting practice, it is a good strategy to save our bowlers and not tire them out. If England A is to declare, it's immaterial whether they declare with 1 wicket down or 9 wickets down.
Our bowlers have ALREADY had enough exposure. Keep in mind, both Sami and Asif are injured now, and we have to play a Twenty20 tomorrow, followed immediately by a 5 day test match. Do you honestly want whatever is left of your bowling resources to waste their energies on a meaningless exercise?
I don't like Inzi either, and although I don't agree with you, if you have to blame, blame Woolmer, not Inzi for this approach.
