Pakistan V England - 4th test match at Oval

Re: Pakistan V England - 4th test match at Oval

Amir has had a disappointing series too, 12 wickets at 42.41, but this was his first test series since his comeback

Re: Pakistan V England - 4th test match at Oval

Most sides would struggle to make 100 in a test innings then

The law is fine… it is actually the line of impact that really matters. Even if the ball is pitched outside off, you are out if **impact **(point where ball hits your pad(s)) is in front of off stump and you are not playing a shot

Agree with your observation re. Sohail…just not quick enough, 75-77ish mph

Re: Pakistan V England - 4th test match at Oval

In general the batters are already not able to score big . this will reduce no. of centruires further. Though draw matches wil be lesser.
AS this will help spinners more dont think it will be done even it will help indai

Re: Pakistan V England - 4th test match at Oval

yes, but he has that nip you know. you expect wicket on every ball. 5-6 catches dropped of him as well. some badluck with many many balls not getting the outside edge

but yes, we were expecting way more from him and he came short. in test cricket no matter how good you are, you need to get wickets. that is where waqar younis and later wasim akram were so good.

and one way of doing it what great Ws did. take your fielders out of pic, master reverse and try to get LBWs or clean bowled by bowling full. aamir is not good in that aspect. when he bowls full, he delivers mostly half volleys.

anyway, he is the future. i will invest a lot more on him

Re: Pakistan V England - 4th test match at Oval

batters are making hugeeeeeeeeeeee scores in last 20 years sit jee. so many have 30+ test centuries. remember in first 100 years of cricket, we had only player with 30+ test centuries and that was mighty gavaskar. in last 30 years, we have at least 10 players with 30+ centuries if not more.

my point is that if the ball is absolutely smashing into wickets, what difference it makes where it pitched or where the impact point was? for exmple, even if the ball was pitched outside off and the impact was not the best but somehow it breached the batman defense and hit the stumps, he will be out.

so with use of new technology, you can tell if it was hitting the stumps conclusively or not. so why not use the same logic

Re: Pakistan V England - 4th test match at Oval

This series has swept away many of the things which were being said about the team before the tour:

  1. England will sweep 4 nil. Pak would have actually won the series if they had not squandered the advantage at edgbaston.
  2. Our batting line up is weak and is not good for more than 250 outside UAE. Check the scores.
  3. Our tail is weak. Tail has done reasonably well in most matches here.

Go Pak, you have made us proud. :salute:
and Salute to the best captain of Pak. - Misbah. :salute:

Re: Pakistan V England - 4th test match at Oval

I think it is also about not getting enough support from the other end. Wahab is too wayward and inconsistent, pace alone is not enough

It is a fact that fast bowlers bowl well in pairs. Amir was more threatening and effective when Asif was bowling from the other end…same with the two Ws, Imran-Sarfraz, Lillee-Thompson, Windies quartet of the 70s and 80s, Ambrose-Walsh, Donald-Pollock, McGrath-Lee, Broad-Anderson etc.

Hope he is back to his best against the Windies and esp. in Australia

Re: Pakistan V England - 4th test match at Oval

Agreed. I have been commenting on Dawn and Pakpassion as well and many Indian and even some Pak fans were quite dismissive of the team after defeat in the second test at Old Trafford and talking about a huge gulf between the two sides and I have been correcting them. No there isn’t any. Pakistan is by far the best Asian team in tests in English conditions and I have been saying this for a while now. We struggle in tests in Australia for sure and that needs to be addressed. This test series was always going to be about whether our inexperienced (inexperienced in English conditions, none of the other batsmen apart from Younis had played in England before) batting line-up can deliver in these conditions and to be fair, it has exceeded most people’s expectations. Apart from Old Trafford (Manchester), where Pak did not bat very well, we have competed well with England on this tour. We won here and at Lord’s, were ahead in Edgbaston and till lunch on the final day, a draw was the likely outcome. One bad session literally cost us that game. Yes it should not have happened, yes we should have handled pressure better, but day 5 batting is always a tricky affair.

On Misbah, should he retire now or tour Australia? No Pakistan captain/team has drawn let alone won a test series in Australia ever since I have been following cricket. Is the risk worth taking, I wonder? Despite their predicament in Sri Lanka, and despite the fact that this Aussie side is a pale shadow of the Australian sides that dominated cricket from 1999 to 2007, they are still very hard to beat at home (only England and SA have achieved that recently)

Re: Pakistan V England - 4th test match at Oval

very good point asif. spot on. i have written a lot abt wahab, so dont want to write today abt him on this historical day. he did well in this match, runs fast, give 200% but not threatening most of the times. we need to find a good swing right hand fast bowler. if asif is fit, oh well…

Re: Pakistan V England - 4th test match at Oval

If only they had not made a mess on the last day at Edgbaston and had drawn the match we would have won the series 2-1.

Re: Pakistan V England - 4th test match at Oval

If they draw the 3Rd one they must have lost this one…
Be happy. This is our team unpredictable always. But much better than our odi n t20 outfit coz of misbah

Re: Pakistan V England - 4th test match at Oval

but had they not created the mess on the last day of edgbaston, it wouldnt be a pakistani side

mercurial but suicidal

Re: Pakistan V England - 4th test match at Oval

Remove the word conclusively. If it hits any part of the steps of bails batsman is out. This way no room for interpretation or foul play.

I never understood why if ball pitches outside leg stump batsman cannot be lbw. But pitching outside off stump is fair game as long as ball hits pad.in line with atumps.

In baseball balls and strikes don’t matter as much as in cricket. Because one wrong call in cricket can make a zero batsman hero.
