Pakistan: United against the wrong enemy

Pakistan’s cautious approach to its militants | United against the wrong enemy | The Economist

This is my take - If Pakistan, Instead of concentrating on fighting India and building Armies against against India had done more to develop its own science and technology, education and infrastructure etc., then today it would have been a very respected country in the world and would have had some stature.
Since, as the article in Economist points out, they have chosen a wrong enemy and so they got wrong friends too.
Hopefully its not too late and that Pakistan learns from its mistakes.

I agree with the part about not focusing enough on the educational and economic infrastructure, but that does not have anything to do with the confrontation with India, as without a proper defensive system, India would have swallowed Pakistan. It was their dream to unite Baharat Maata, a dream that will never come true. Also, what do you mean by 'wrong friends'? If you are referring to the US, please be careful, for your own orchestrated media hype as this might back fire against your little mumbai baaliwood movie.

dude we are not dumb, we know our mistakes clearly. But what we do about it???
Tell zardari what to do???
Or we should have spoken to mush when he was creating mess??

I mean what we do???

Its not about blame game, its about the future of the hundred of millions of innocent people.
What each of the nations should do is that as each day passes the lives of its citizen should improve.
Now am I satisfied with India's progress - "No I am not", we should do better.
But the article here is about Pakistan - "Are the Pakistani citizen finding themselves in a better place each day that passes by?", thats the only question you need to answer.
As Mahatma Gandhi once said, "The only devils in this world are those running around in our own hearts, and that is where all our battles should be fought."

I'm with Spock here. No doubt that Pakistan should have focused and worked hard to prosper their economy doing more and more work Science & Technology in particular but at the same time you cannot deny that Pakistan has its needs for a sharp atomic weapons as well as well-equipped and trained army. Look at the prevailing conditions right now. India could have attacked much earlier if Pakistan did not have the atomic option.

I speak to so many indians and some of them have really changed their attitude all the way these days. And that reminds me that they are my acquaintainces but I cannot trust them as my friends. Same is the case with India as a country.

Re: Pakistan: United against the wrong enemy

^^ Me too. I am with Spock on the issue. Yes, we should concentrate on education, economics etc. But NEVER EVER weaken our defenses vis-a-vis india or anyone for that matter.

Might is right... it was true then, it is true now and it will be true tomorrow.

Re: Pakistan: United against the wrong enemy

India is going to buy 15 billion$ aircrafts from USA,Only this amount is sufficient to proviede Aata for one year to every indian for a whole year. Now I am sure Osama ,Mulla Umer, Baitullah Mahsood, Aiman Al Zoahiry and every other is working for Israeel and USA. USA and allaince can renew their economy with few attacks like Mumbai. India was moving well to progress . Now he will soon reverting. Pakistan had already lost every thing trying to keep America happy.

Re: Pakistan: United against the wrong enemy

How can Pakistan stop spending on its army, when we knw what kind of neibours we got?

Exactly!

I love how Indians like to lecture us about what we should be doing when they are one of the core reasons for our instability. Indians continue to dream of swallowing up Pakistan and being the superpower of South Asia. Under those circumstances we cannot be foolish enough to think of India as our friend. You split our country in half, stole Kashmir, and supported separatism movements in our homeland - I don't think friends do that, do you?

Thier is no doubt that our leaders have failed us, they have only worried about filling their own pockets when they could have been creating a prosperous system in Pakistan.

Butttt,
India is the enemy and it always will be. Almost everytime when an all out war has happened it has been India that has started the war. Like right now, India says stupid things like "don't worry about the evidence, just bomb where we tell you." Whose on the offensive right now? India has done countless activities with RAW, has Pakistan ever says it will attack India?

Why should we bomb our own people when daddy Bush says and now India says? If someone did something wrong then no dought they should be brought to justice. But when Pakistan says bomb bomb Shiv Sena's house, do you ever do that?

Historically India has been Pakistans foremost enemy… Thats not a fabrication, thats fact… Even a cursory glance at South Asian history reveals the animosity, bitterness and hostility India has had for Pak.
Before you start your lecture, you should do some soul searching of your own. You might see yourselves as harmelss, but we dont.
As for Paks condition, things will improve grdually. Pakistan has hit rough waters before and navigated out, and it will again. India has aswell.

Exactly, India really has done us no favors.. Even the so called peace process is one sided and self serving. They refuse to even glance at the real issues, and think sending flowers and gift baskets to the border will appease people.
Then the have the gaul to play victim when the problems they create come and bite them in the rear.

How can you trust a country that goes from being your friend one day, to threatening all out war at the smallest provocation the next.
Keep friends close, but enemies even closer as they say...

Re: Pakistan: United against the wrong enemy

Smallest provocation? Really?

Well, perhaps its not so small, but we in Paksitan have gone through far worse... So have the Indians. The world knows we are handling the problem of terorrist one way or the other.

This provocation doesnt warrant all out war, nor does it warrant this rhetoric.
If Indians were ever truly honest about the peace process, they would cooperate with Paksitan, not try talking down to it.
Bottom line is that the response is certainly over the top... This so called provocation had nothing to do with the Pak govt or even the Army. Terrorists are terrorists.

Re: Pakistan: United against the wrong enemy

Pakistan's infrastructure is much better than India's. Regarding education, Pakistan sends more students to high-class universities in USA, Canada and Europe than India for higher education- those students come back and help Pakistan. I agree with Spock- had it not been for nuclear weapon (thanks to Dr. Samar Mubarakmand for giving Pakistan an Islamic nuclear bomb- only one in the world), India would have attacked Pakistan soon after few hours of Mumbai hotel attack. Alhamdullilah we have nuclear weapon and India would think twice now although their Foreign minister Mr. Mukar Jee Shorty issues threats in the media. If India goes to war against Pakistan, Pakistan should not only avenge 1971, it should settle 1) Kashmir and 2) Mistreatment of muslims in India.

India would've attacked in 2002.

... and in 1999.

And 1990

And 1984.

Oh man, what a warmonger she is!
