Pakistan tour of England - June 2003

^ & there you go again Samby. The first time we won Pakistan you said it was cuz of the night day matches, the second time was because of ur own crap bowling (not our excellent bowling/batting) and the third time it's because of biased umpires?

Do you know what I think? I think you're once, twice, three times a bad loser!

OK AQ!

That was a shame we lost that one, I thought the catching was a big let down today but it sometimes happens. Overall though I thought the bowlers really had a good go especially Sami and Shoaib who should have had three wickets - 2 catches dropped and a plumb lbw turned down by the umpires (again).

Bearing in mind England won the toss and we had the worst of the conditions and umpiring decisions I’m pretty proud of the way we scrapped right to the end. Apart from the catching it was a really encouraging display. I’d say well played to England but really it was us wh lost it by dropping Trescothick twice.

Well played lads, we didn’t get the breaks but I’d say we clearly looked the better team - and we’ll get better as well :jhanda:

stop making stuff up, Sadi. we lost all three matches 'cause of your damn lying, cheating habits. no wonder everyone hates the Brits.

anyways I'm out. gonna go celebrate the sober and dignified manner in which our proud young boys lost to a team of thugs. I'm practically in tears; they've done me proud. I love everyone of them (even Shobby A).

^ Hahaha Samby, I hereby crown you the funniest bullshyter on Gupshup (and there’s a lot of them!). Your undying love for Pakistan is soooo cute! Come join England, it’s much more fun being an England supporter (and we even win matches once in a while)

**Ok, Dean Jones comments on star Sports nailed it…

" I think Pakistan will look back and feel that they were robbed of three plummmiees LBW, i m an australian but Darrell Hair should have more glasses on :hehe: Whereelse the ball could have gone apart from the middle stump??

This pakistan side exudes quality and variety but this english team got away with the experience of home condistions … Thier yougn off spinning all roudners are nice and i expect them to be worldcalss in coming years.

Pakistan, under this imginative captain, if they can get inzimam back in full flow. i will rate em as next worldcup’s finalist :k: **

I don’t really understand how you unkempt folks do things over in Engurland. But shouldn’t you be mourning the loss of what’s that fag’s name, oh yeah Beckham. yeah yeah the guy who wears ladies’ underwear.

so he’s a Spaniard eh. no wonder English gals go looking for Pakistani hunks. there’re no real men in England eh. I feel for you sister.

you are spot on sambs... take my bo of tissue papers with you :)

^ :k: “next WC finalist” hope so.
Anyways, I’m not disapointed with my team. Sure, they missed A LOT of chances but it wasn’t thier day.

Hope they learn something from this…

Good effort by Pakistan
The English made up for there glaring lack of talent by utilizing poor umpiring and fielding to win the game and good for them.
Most of our boys looked good and even Yunis Khan finally got his game back.
I would like to see Inzi come back soon though.
Our’s is a young team and it is not big deal that we lost, they are still doing a lot of learning.
The English were truly unimpressive though with the exception of Trescothick.
Dissapointed to see YoYo again fail to show some consistancy.

:jhanda:

oh yes. i really like Dean jones comments. Fair and unbiased. :k:

Edit: Piss poor performance by Pakistan on the field though.

It wasn’t their day. They are partly to blame for missed catches and run out chances. Two umpiring decisions went against us which cost us very heavily. Rashid should have taken that catch and being so experienced it is disappointing to note that he crumbled under pressure at the cruicial moment.

I am very satisfied with the teams performance today and I think this team will do us very proud in the months and years to come.

Watch out cricket world, Hafeez and Malik have arrived.

Sami was the pick of the bowlers. Shoaib was unlucky today but overall he still has attitude problem and needs to sort himself out.

Come on guys we can hold our heads up with pride, it was a hard fought match and someone has to lose in the end. It could have gone either way.

Looking at the series the matches at Manchester and today at Lord’s were very close and could have gone either way. England won the Oval one decisively.

Well played Pakistan. :jhanda:

Aside from reducing England from 129-2 to 154-6 and still contriving to lose, Pakistan missed four clear run-out chances and dropped three catches inside the first 20 overs.

well said Ehsan Bhai

i hope Inzi starts a comeback against BD to get into Intl. cricket again and please please please PCB should handover Shobby to a psycho-Doc and a bowling coach (Waseem) so he can get his acts together ..... i think a signal like dropping shobby during a running tour in case he don't sort out his atitude problems would affect him to concentrate on his Bowlig abilities + how to improve them and what he can achieve with that ...

Congratulations to Pakistan. Looking at the responses, seems like they won the match. :jhanda:

Next time when england loses, I cannot wait to read such glowing reports of their loss. :k:

unlucky Pakistan, we put up a good fight but it just wasn’t our day. our bowling was a lot better than in the last game but we just didn’t have the luck on the field. shoaib played well, very unfortunate he didn’t pick up at least 1 wicket.

maybe if we didn’t have those 2 biased umpires we may have won, you never know.

we’ll beat dem next time and go on to set a new record by winning the world cup 3 times in a row!

:jhanda:

Damn that hurt. If the top order batsmen would have done a little more on their part we would have won this match. Oh well. I hopethey keep this team together for a while.

What is the next ODI series? Is theri a website besides for cricinfo that we can find out the next tournament?

:-/ so I guess I missed one more match and we lost again?? :(

**England v Pakistan, NatWest Challenge, Match 3, Lord’s **](http://uk.cricinfo.com/link_to_database/ARCHIVE/CRICKET_NEWS/2003/JUN/201999_NWS2003_22JUN2003.html)

So, England have won the inaugural NatWest Challenge, and today’s decider at Lord’s was a fitting finale to an uplifting trio of matches. First and foremost, it’s a memorable start to Michael Vaughan’s reign – he may not have contributed much with the bat, but his attacking approach and calm authority in the field were pivotal to his team’s efforts, and he deservedly becomes the first England captain to win his first series in charge since Adam Hollioake in Sharjah in 1997-98.

Nine balls separated England and Pakistan at the end, but in truth, the difference between the sides was much, much less. For if Pakistan had fielded half as well as they bowled, then it would surely have been Rashid Latif lifting the trophy.

At this stage of their re-developments, however, results are less important than resolve. Both sides are rebuilding and inexperienced: one of the main reasons why this short series was such fun to watch. Each match had more crash, bang and wallop than a Tom and Jerry cartoon, and it was that very youthful exuberance which brought the games to life. Australia are the only side in the world with a team of grown-ups who have been there, done that and won the Trophy: everyone else has to do the best with what they’ve got.

England’s victory was an especially sweet moment for Marcus Trescothick and Chris Read, who not only carried England home, but laid their Lord’s ghosts to rest in the process. Trescothick’s 108 was his third century in four ODI innings at Lord’s – but the first time he had ended up on the winning side. For Read, this was his first innings back since that embarrassing, world-famous, blunder against a Chris Cairns slower-ball, two post-World-Cup-reshuffles ago in 1999.

**But while those two lead England’s celebrations at the start of a new era, you have to feel sorry for Latif. As captain he has restored spirit and unity to the Pakistani cause since the World Cup, and he has captained and kept admirably in this series. It was Latif who diffused a potentially unpleasant situation by informing the umpires that a slip catch off Jim Troughton had not carried, and it was he who sparked England’s mid-innings collapse with two smart dismissals in quick succession.

How unfitting that it was Latif, of all people, who arguably lost the game - and the series - for Pakistan when he spilled a crucial chance off Trescothick late in the piece. But it just goes to show that even most the experienced member of the team can make mistakes.** So here’s to youthful exuberance - it’s certainly the way forward. Just ask that spring chicken Darren Gough.

all peapul who sorry caying for losting to englang, one othing only to say. Is only game. losted winned all same. just playing good game and enjoyment. that's all. one game you win one another game he win! enjoy game. all the best next game (all best except playing India - when india playing, India all the best).
