Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

Re: Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

Rana's injury was reported well b4 the team was announced, what is even more worrisome is the selection process, how come Bari et al did not know of Rana's injury? What was Bobby Boy doing? How come the captain has strong opinions for physical fitness yet fails to apply them in a fair and uniform manner?

I cannot believe Rana did not ifrom team management of his injury, afterall it was reported in the press. This nly proves one point, we live in a era where team is managed on a daily basis, there is no vision or desire to think beyond tomorrow.

Re: Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

but where is Mustaq Ahmed???

Re: Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

The dopey Inzi has hinted at recalling Mushtaq Ahmed. I wonder when he will call up chahca Arshad.

Re: Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

Thank God for once! Mushtaq should be dragged into the final X1, regardless of his previous performances. The two specialists in Kaneria and Mushtaq will most likely prove to be more than enough for these English batters, and will make up for the lack of quality in our pace department.

Toss Malik/Farhat out the window and bring in Mushtaq.

Re: Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

Reserve medium pacer Rao Iftikhar Anjum has been asked to be prepared for a ticket to England following Rana’s injury report.

Rao was certain to be included in the national team for the ODI series against England but Rana’s expected absence would most likely get him a slot in the Test squad as well.

^ :crying: nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

where is Arshad taya ???

Re: Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

Oh no, NOT RAO!!!!! I am even prepared to tolerate Chacha Arshad, hell even old Mushy, anything but the RAO. :(

Re: Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

Freaking PCB and g*ndo Bari.

Re: Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

Can't even tolerate chacha Arshad and Rao but can tolerate Mushtaq as he has lots of experience playing in England. However, I am not too sure how effective Mushtaq will be, will have to wait and see.

Re: Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

Rao shud be sent to India, he wud become their waqar younis.

Re: Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

We should definitely play both Mushy and Kaneria in Tests. Rao will come good on this tour. He can't be as bad as people make him out to be.

Re: Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

I dont think so we should be concerned that much, Yes we will be without the serivce of our two ace bowlers (Shoaib and Rana) but the very idea to play competitive cricket (county cricket) before an important tour, and who is to blame that? PCB itself or the players?

Well we have seen, our selection committee and coach saying we have enough depth in the bowling department so lets see what Rabbit they will pull out of the hat!

I will voice my concern over Mushi's issue, I dont think we need a bowler to fill gaps ( no offense to Mushi who is one of the best bowler in county) if you want a bowler then draw the fresh blood; Jamshed, Anwar Ali or Akther Ayub of U-19 who actually deserve a place in the bench strength. and if you want to replace someone with a spinner then you should perhaps choose Mansoor Amjad or Saqlain Mushtaq who is doing quite well in Ireland.

Re: Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

Saqlain Mushtaq doing well in Ireland?????when did that happen????

Unfortunately we don't have too many reserve bowlers, next in line could be Yasir Arafat (hardly a match winner), Irshad (wayward), Samiullah ( as someone said is left handed version of Razzaq), Wasim Khan ( just OK ).

I think we definitely need to groom Jamshed Ahmed, Anwar Ali and Akhtar Ayub otherwise we might be in big trouble.

Re: Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

The only rabbit selection committee has pulled out of their collective money-making hats is the use of the word "depth" in the bowling department, several days after the fact when injury reports of both the pacers were made public.

When a team's frontline bowlers are sidelined due to such factors, the "depth" is the last word that comes to mind.

But then again, the chamcha-geeri system has run amock amidst these conditions and Bari does play a head role in filling in these "gaps" by bringing in third-class trash from Lord knows which God awful slaughter-houses in Pakistan.

Re: Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

*England's batting is so khassi that I would still bet on us bowling them out quickly (only threats being Tresco and Pietersen). It is our batting that I'm worried about; Harmison, Hoggard and Flintoff can prove to be too hot to handle in foreign conditions. *

Re: Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

I am not even sure whether he will get into the Indian squad.

Re: Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

In other words Pakistan batting can also be regarded as Khassi in foreign conditions then?

Pakistan might delay naming 16th man for England tour
By Khalid Hussain

KARACHI: Pakistan may send a 15-member squad to England later this month and delay naming their 16th man till before the start of the first Test at Lord’s if injured pacer Rana Naved-ul-Hasan is ruled out of the tour, chief selector Wasim Bari said on Friday.

Bari told ‘The News’ that the selection committee could ask the team management to first go to England and then ask for Rana’s replacement before the opening Test getting underway from July 13.

“If it is confirmed that Rana cannot play (in the series against England) then we may tell the team management to take a 15-man squad to England and see for themselves the conditions there and then ask for a replacement according to the requirement,” he said.

Bari believes time is on Pakistan’s side which is why the selection committee will weigh all pros and cons before taking a final decision on this issue.

Pakistan have received a double injury blow to their pace battery ahead of the long tour of England following injuries to their key strike bowlers — Shoaib Akhtar and Rana Naved-ul-Hassan. Shoaib was ruled out of the initial part of the tour of England early this month after being recommended a six-week rest due to an ankle injury. Recently, a report on Rana’s groin injury has also put a question mark on the medium pacer’s chances of playing the series against England. He has been asked to rest for four to six weeks and the period could stretch further if a surgery is required.

There have been indications that medium pacer Rao Iftikhar Anjum, featuring as a reserve in the training camp in Lahore, might be asked to fill in for Rana or the slot may go to Test discard Mushtaq Ahmed, the aging leg-spinner currently spending the twilight years of his cricket career by featuring in county action in England.

But Bari said the selection committee would only come into action when a final report on Rana’s injury is available to them. “From what I know he (Rana) has to see a specialist in England next week after which we would be able to know for sure how serious his injury is and whether he would be able to play any role on the tour of England,” he said.

Bari made it clear the selection committee would not take any hasty decisions. “The first Test in England is still almost a month away so there is plenty of time,” he said.

He promised the best possible decision would be made. “Rana’s injury comes as an unpleasant surprise and together with Shoaib’s absence has made things a bit tough for us. But I am sure that our bowling line-up would finally come out well.”

Pakistan are scheduled to leave for England on June 25 to play four Tests, five one-day matches and some side games during the tour that concludes on September 10.

Re: Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

The "depth" was nowhere to be found in Bari's statement above. How the almighty have fallen.

We are here. We have finally reached at this point in time where that hideous looking club-level trash sits on one hand while Mushtaq glides on the other, and we are still unsure of whom to pick between the two.

Lost for words. I am lost for words.

Re: Pakistan Tour of England and Injury Problems

I think Najaf Shah is better than this Rao or even Khalil, i don't know why he has been ignored. He has always done well whenever given chance at A level, Samiullah Niazi hasn't done anything amazing even at domestic level and now we see him getting selected for Pak all of a sudden :(
