Pakistan to no longer hold Champion's Trophy

The Champion’s Trophy Hockey Tournament will no longer take place in Pakistan in November due to security fears following last week’s terror strikes in the United States, officials said on Sunday. The International Hockey Federation (FIH) decided to shift the elite six-nation annual event, scheduled from November 3 to 11 in the eastern city of Lahore, they said. Sardar Khan, the Pakistan Hockey Federation’s (PHF) representative on the FIH’s communication committee, said it was ‘not viable’ to hold the tournament in Pakistan due to ‘fears of security in the region.’ “The FIH has given a September 28 deadline for the other five competing nations to offer to host the event or it will be cancelled,” Khan said. Olympic and world champions Holland were favourites to host the event, which would include Olympic silver medallists South Korea, Australia, England and European champions Germany. The New Zealand cricket team last week cancelled a tour of Pakistan. Pakistan is also scheduled to host the South Asian Federation Games in Islamabad from October 6 to 15.

This is very sad. I think a huge loss for Pak Sports and economy.
