Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar on Thursday said Pakistan will represent the global Muslim community on the issue of blasphemous content posted on social media platforms and take the fight to any extent necessary to get its message across.
“Such content has been posted on social media websites for years. I am surprised that no other Muslim country raised the issue till now,” Nisar said while addressing a press conference in Islamabad.
“We will take any steps necessary to make sure that our message against such content gets across to those websites as well as the rest of the world,” Nisar said.
“We cannot put a handle on things until Facebook and these other websites help us, but when it comes to uploading done from within Pakistan, we have nearly pinpointed from where it is happening through the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and other intelligence agencies.”
“Since this has become an international issue, I have also asked the FIA to find good legal counsel on the matter. They have been instructed to find a lawyer that understands international law and can advise us on these matters,” Nisar added.
“I have asked the Foreign Office to appoint a representative in the US to liaison with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and these social media websites on a daily basis,” he said.
“Facebook and other service providers should share all information about the people behind this blasphemous content with us.”
“We are working on both tracks to ensure that those who have committed these crimes do not get away scot-free while the innocent do not get sucked into the matter,” he added.
“I have already directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to send out notices and ask that this content is removed and that it does not reappear online again,” Nisar said.
“Apart from all these measures, I still warn that we will take the matter to whatever end is necessary if these platforms do not comply with our demands,” Nisar said, in an apparent reference to repeated appeals to block social media in Pakistan.
Nisar seemed to echo Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who said on March 14 that blasphemy is an ‘unpardonable offence’ and directed state machinery to find those responsible for putting blasphemous content on social media and bring them to justice without delay.
“The blasphemous content on social media is a nefarious conspiracy to hurt the religious sentiments of the entire Muslim ummah,” Nawaz was quoted as saying in a statement released on Twitter by the PML-N’s official account.
Earlier the same day, the National Assembly had passed a resolution condemning blasphemous content posted on social media and unanimously agreed to the formation of a committee of parliamentary leaders to monitor such content.
Re: Pakistan to lead global campaign against blasphemous content: interior minister
This is a sensitive issue. The sanctity of The Holy Prophet pbuh is very dear to every muslim’s heart.
The other day I was having a frank conversation with my mother on this and she made a very fair and valid point.
Her point essentially was why do these people think that it is ok to make fun of our Prophet pbuh when our cartoonists, film-makers or satirists have never ever disrespected their religious figures? i.e. freedom of speech has its limits. It is almost unthinkable that a muslim in his* hosh o’ hawaas* will ever make fun of Jesus and David (peace be upon both). Both are amongst the greatest prophets in Islam and highly revered by all. Can you openly mock the Queen in England and get away with it? … and she is not even a religious figure! Will these people just tolerate it and ignore it in the name of freedom of speech??
My reply was that our masses (esp. sub-continental) often react in such a violent and pathetic manner that these people deliberately needle us from time to time to evoke such a response and show us in poor light.
One can choose to ignore the blasphemers as I do. A few years back a danish film-maker made an objectionable film. Now youtube is not banned in the UK. *mera kabhi dil hi nahin chaha hai k mein aisi film dekhoun. *I have never even tried to search it on the web. I am sure it is still there..
Tau arz yeh hai k respect is in the heart. You don’t have to wear your religion on your sleeve all the time!
But if you are the emotional kind and you feel that you must protest then do it, it is your fundamental right … but your response should be rational, peaceful and civilised. Challenge these people in an open debate for instance.
Banning the entire social media is neither practical nor sensible. You learn many good things; new things thru knowledge sharing.
Taesh mein aa kar and incited by mullahs, how is burning your own KFC and other buildings (as has happened in the past) or killing your own people ever a sane response?
Re: Pakistan to lead global campaign against blasphemous content: interior minister
this social media thing is just ruining the younger generation too, whole time they’re wasting on social media. I won’t mind a ban on this.
At least in pakistan then people will do something else, maybe kids may study a little bit or do some chores.
Iss social media ki bimari ne to sab jaga insanon ko kahil sust aur kisi joga nai chora
Re: Pakistan to lead global campaign against blasphemous content: interior minister
The reasoning being g8ven by these cartoonist is thst they themself are making fun and cartoons of Jesus m9re than any one else. And no christian is going to shoot them with a gun. Hence if they are doing it on the name of freedom of speech.
Ur raised other point is very correct. Most of the ppl living outside pk have access to this and log other filth. But y I will try yo search and watch such things completely. What I will fo is report the page and close it but not to start fwding it to whole world so those muslims who gave not seen it will also watch it and I become reason of advertising bad things about our prophet pbuh .
On the other hand I believe the best way is to raise this issue at oic level . Gora does not listen any thing unless it doesn’t hurt him financially.
As a symbolic protest if all muslim countries stop all purchases from only one country who commit such act for only a year and u will see them on their knees.
But wat we do is on the nsme of protest we destroy our own country.
That’s y in my opinion the approach is correct this time
Re: Pakistan to lead global campaign against blasphemous content: interior minister
Just a reminder to the Pakistan’s Lawmakers if they want to derive all of Pakistan’s Laws from the Holy Quran and Shariah, then they should keep in mind the Fact that Islam is the only religion on Earth that decrees There shall be be No compulsion in religion!
so I say let us lead by example our Holy Prophet PBUH provided to us in his lifetime!

Good but need to be very careful , There should be some other person to do this . Links with sectarian leaders of Ch Nisar makes it doubtful .

Not agree with you , this page gone with big photos but otherwise a photo with a post makes it more visible , it calls your memory , like if you see Mulla Aziz , it will call your memory , all about Lal masjid but only written words have very less impact .
Now time is changing , pictures are becoming greater part of the posts on internet .
However I shall try for using smaller pictures

Re: Pakistan to lead global campaign against blasphemous content: interior minister
This is a very important topic. I will be a big fan of Ch nisar ( atleast for this issue ) if he can devise a proedure with FB management to remove any such content as swiftly as possible.
Further any such blogger who resides in PAkistan should be trialed.
Govt shud announce the laws about blasphamey clearly to masses frequently..
