If Pakistan wants to establish some space station then that could lead to many side projects, commercialization of satellites, R&D etc. But going to moon and poling your flag on it are not going to buy nation any money except →

Oye come on people just because he said we will go to the moon doesnt mean thats his main and only objective. The thing is we are now gonna have a better and less neglected space program, which benefits us in everyway. More job opportunities, IST will produce some good educated people and Pakistan will have some more respect.
Since the common man may consider the ultimate goal of any space program to be a landing on the moon, Musharraf tried to ensure people that he will go on to meet all our ojectives etc etc by stating that we will go to the moon and not as in, we are on our way there right now.
BTW, I was listening to a 14th August speech by our Prime Minister in which he was also praising Pakistan's space program, after praising Pakistan for having brought clean water to all of its citizens and free education up till matric. Is any of that true?

^ China had built its first International Lunar mission tracking center in Pakistan during Mushy's regime (IEEE Spectrum, Sept, 2000), and thats a big achievement, they hired alot of people who used to work at Burhaq Planetary Soceity, and you cant credit your jiyala governments (BB and NS) for such achievements.

The United States went to space using so much money because they were in competition with the Soviet Union. Going to space is never easy, and if Pakistan decides to allocate funds to some "space program" its only so that they can make their friends and family "directors" of each part of this so called "space agency" and have a good excuse to funnel money to them. Reminds me of news articles that say "Drinking water to 100% of pakistan by 2007" Just big talk really. Bush Senior wanted USA to go to mars! That never happened either.
We all know what would happen if pakistan were to ever colonize the moon. You would have all these advertisements for "housing schemes.. Book your dream 2 kanal plot now!! 24 installments of 1 lakh with possesion shortly thereafter development!" After making 12 payments they find the company doesnt even exist after witch Mushie proposes a "Defense Housing Authority Moon Scheme".
