Im opening this thread to dig out all the amazing, heroic deeds people did back when Pakistan was being made. Im sure we’ve heard of our Naana’s fighting for freedom alongside the Quaid and our naani’s trying to save their lives getting away from the atrocities of those times.. so share anything that you have heard by them here.. lets relive those days and truly try and understand the reason why this country was built!
I’ll start with my nani’s story:
She was probably around 9-10 yrs old when the partition took place. She remembers walking through fields with her sister trying to keep her voice down so that no one would kill them. Thats why they had fled from their homes in the first place and they knew people had been hiding out in the fields to save their lives. Her mother had snuck them through the window and made sure that no one had seen them and said “Fi-imaan Illah”, she let them go with hopes that maybe one day, they would all be reunited.
My naani was asleep on some hay stacks when she woke up startled by a lot of shouting and chaos from the village homes. Thats when she tried to wake up her sister but to her surprise she wasnt there. She ran around frantically trying to locate her and then saw her a little further down the mud road, digging something. A trench type thing big enough for the 2 of them to sit in. It was then that the men saw her. My naani hadnt reached her in-time and she was slaughtered right there infront of her. Not even an ounce of pity in their eyes for a 12 yr old girl. My naani couldnt do much but she went and sat in that trench for days. Not knowing anything.. some days later, my naani got out and joined a qaafila of Muslims & that was how she made it to Pakistan.
