ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s textile products export rose 4.9 per cent to $7.6 billion in the first 11 months of the current financial year aainst $7.2 billion same period last year. Official figures released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) said an absolute term the total value of exportable products stood at $12.8 billion during the period under review, as against $11 billion over the same period last year, indicating an overall increase of 16.4 per cent. Exports of non-textile commodities and products were $5.2 billion during the July-May period of the current fiscal year, as against $3.7 billion during the same period last year, showing an increase of 38.5 per cent.

The analysis of textile statistics showed that the total value of textile export products increased by 9.3 per cent to $3.7 billion during the first five months of the quota-free regime this year, as against $3.4 billion during the same period last year. The product-wise analysis showed that exports of readymade garments registered a growth of 36 per cent during the first five months (January-May) to $553.7 million as compared to $406.9 million during the same period last year. The export of readymade garments registered a growth of only 9.8 per cent during the July-May period, over the same period last year. The export of bed wear stood at $680 million during the period under review, as against $603.8 million over the same period last year, showing an increase of 12.6 per cent; towels exports stood at $222.7 million, as against $141.6m, an increase of 57.2 per cent.

The export of cotton cloth increased by 19.6 per cent to $921 million during the Januaryy-May period compared to $769.6 million during the same period last year; 3.2 per cent growth was registered in the export of tents, canvas and tarpaulin, which stood at $33.5 million this year as against $32.4 million during the same period last year. Moreover, the export of made-up articles registered a growth of 14.2 per cent during the January-May period this year as it stood at $195.4 million as compared to $167.5 million during the same period last year. The export of cotton yarn declined by 9.5 per cent to $474.6 million during the January-May period as compared to $524.7 million last year. However, the export of cotton yarn registered a growth of 16.8 per cent during May 2005, over the same month last year. The export of knitwear declined by 4.6 per cent to $568.8 million during the same period this year as compared to $596.7 million of the corresponding year. Similarly, the export of art, silk and synthetic textile registered a fall of 25.9 per cent during the first five months this year, as it stood at $112.2m against $151.6 million during the same period last year.
