Pakistan Test Squad announced for Windies

re: Pakistan Test Squad announced for Windies

Sarfraz Ahmed should have been in the team....first they selected butter fingers Akmal ahead of him, then the mental case Zulqarnain Haider, and now Mohammad Salman?

How old will Salman be in the next WC? 33-34? Whereas Sarfraz is 23....I mean come on PCB do you guys actually think before you select ?

re: Pakistan Test Squad announced for Windies

Cricinfo:

**Squad: **Shahid Afridi (capt), Mohammad Hafeez, Ahmed Shehzad, Taufeeq Umar, Usman Salahuddin, Misbah-ul-Haq, Asad Shafiq, Umar Akmal, Abdur Rehman, Saeed Ajmal, Tanvir Ahmed, Wahab Riaz, Junaid Khan, Hammad Azam, Aizaz Cheema and Mohammad Salman (wk)
Reserves: Rameez Raja (jnr), Sadaf Hussain, Asif Zakir, Sohail Khan, Zulifqar Babar

If I were the one of the selectors or rather coach…I would have kicked out every player above the age of 25 for T-20s and every player above the age of 30 for the ODIs…

I think…we are entering into an era where talents, experience or skills will not necessarily will be important or prevailing…so what remains is the aptitude…something that dwell in you 24/7…hunt for the aptitude though…

For the ODIs & T-20s…I think…Asad Shafiq is a good choice as Captain and Umar Akmal as vice Captain (or in optimum case…an allrounder will be the best choice as the Captain)…at this stage…we should build squads…separate squads for each format…winning or losing the matches or series should not be considered more important…rather building solid & sure Squads for the future to confront the international cricket with a reasonable good clout…

PS: I have seen in Pakistan…guys age of 17-18 flying mirages & F-16s…and the leading guy (the squadron leader) of age 24-25…hmmmmm…does the aptitude count…so it should be in cricket and other beloved fields too… :jhanda:

PS1: Mohammad Amir is an example of aptitude…not of skills, experience or talent…

Why is Miandad again is being offered to become batting coach? He seems to have man management problems. They should let someone like Rashid Latif be the coach. Even Shoaib Mohammad or Saeed Anwar could be a good choice.

KARACHI:
Pakistan team management has decided against extensive training ahead of the West Indies tour as the players gather in Lahore for a two-day camp that starts tomorrow. Pakistan visit the Caribbean for a series of two Tests, five One-Day Internationals (ODI) and a Twenty20.
Intikhab Alam, the team manager, said the players could not be burdened after a hectic schedule that has seen tours to England, UAE, New Zealand and the World Cup in the last eight months.
“We don’t want to put burden on the players as there is little time left,” Alam told The Express Tribune. “The camp will be a sort of get-together where players will undergo light exercises only. The decision has been taken to allow some rest to the players who have spent a very hectic schedule recently.”
Pakistan leave for the West Indies on April 14 before playing a warm-up game four days later.
Alam said the team will get ample time before the five-match ODI series starts from April 23.
“The team will have time to practise before the start of the tour.”
Shafiq ready for bigger task
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Asad Shafiq has said he was ready to anchor the team’s fragile batting in absence of former captain Younis Khan. The promising middle-order batsman drew praise after his performance in the World Cup where he scored 154 runs at an average of 77.
“I’m aware of the responsibility and I’m ready,” Shafiq told The Express Tribune in an interview.
“Our batting is still experienced enough with the presence of Misbah and I’m ready to support him in the middle overs.”
The 25-year-old, who was dismissed for 46 and 30 against Australia and India respectively, was disappointed on failing to convert a good start.
“I was well set against Australia and India but failed to convert my innings,” added Shafiq who hoped for a better show against West Indies.
“It’s an important tour for me. I haven’t scored a century yet and would look to break the jinx,” said the right-handed batsman who has played 16 ODIs and three Tests for Pakistan.
Shafiq said he was inspired by Mohammad Yousuf and modelled his batting on the former captain.
“Yousuf is my role model and I learnt a lot by watching his batting.”

Gayle, Chanderpaul and Sarwan dropped

   ESPNcricinfo staff

April 14, 2011

http://www.espncricinfo.com/db/PICTURES/CMS/107600/107683.2.jpg

West Indies have left out Chris Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan, their three senior-most players, from the squad for the first two ODIs of the five-match series against Pakistan that begins on April 21. Dwayne Bravo, whose World Cup was cut short by a knee injury, returns to the squad and will serve as captain Darren Sammy’s deputy, while Antigua-born legspinner Anthony Martin remains the only uncapped player in the list of 13.
Kieron Pollard will miss the five-match series to play for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, while Bravo, who, like Pollard, had opted out of a retainer contract with the West Indies Cricket Board, will skip the two-match Test series that follows the ODIs to join Chennai Super Kings.
The exclusion of Gayle, Chanderpaul and Sarwan following West Indies’ quarter-final exit from the World Cup marks a significant step and underlines the selectors’ intention to move on and start afresh with an emphasis on youth. “Consistent with the policy to expose young players, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan were not selected,” a West Indies Cricket Board release stated.
In addition to the phasing out of the old guard, West Indies also left out left-arm spinners Sulieman Benn and Nikita Miller; Marlon Samuels and legspinners Devendra Bishoo - who picked up three wickets on his international debut against England in Chennai in the World Cup - and Martin will comprise the spin attack. In the previous edition of the WICB Regional 50-over tournament, Martin picked up eight wickets for Leeward Islands from five games and had the best economy rate of 2.82 an over. He finished with 16 wickets in six games in the Caribbean’s domestic first-class competition.
Samuels, who is also part of the squad for the one-off Twenty20 international against Pakistan, won a recall after serving a two-year ban for alleged involvement with illegal bookmakers. Lendl Simmons, the Trinidad and Tobago batsman - and nephew of Phil Simmons - was also picked while batsman Kirk Edwards and allrounder Andre Russell, who were part of the World Cup squad, kept their places.
“We have looked at a mix of players who will take us through the next five to ten years, and with this squad we have put together a youthful but exciting combination of exceptionally talented cricketers who we believe can win matches,” WICB chairman of selectors Clyde Butts said.
“There are some familiar faces who have not been included on this occasion, but we have already identified the core of players who we will build the team around. The time has come for us to introduce a fresh crop of players who we believe have a deep desire to excel and who can be tested at the international level.”
In another decision, the WICB agreed to consider Bravo and Pollard for selection across all formats even if their IPL commitments meant they would miss national duty. The board had adopted a policy of tying national selection to participation in regional tournaments in the corresponding format - the reason behind Pollard and Bravo not being picked for the Twenty20 game against Pakistan.
“It was mutually determined that Pollard would be best served by being allowed to hone his T20 skills in the Indian Premier League, which will bring future benefit to West Indies cricket,” the release stated. “He will not play in the series against Pakistan, but remains committed to West Indies cricket and will be available for future selection to the West Indies team in all formats.” About Bravo, the release said: “Dwayne Bravo, who is also contracted to an IPL franchise, will play in the one-day series against Pakistan but will miss the two Tests in order to participate in the IPL. Like Pollard, Bravo also remains committed to West Indies cricket and will be available for future selection to the West Indies team in all formats.”

Squad for first two ODIs:

Darren Sammy (capt), Dwayne Bravo (vice-captain), Devendra Bishoo, Darren Bravo, Kirk Edwards, Anthony Martin, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach , Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons, Devon Smith, Devon Thomas (wk).
