Sorry to say we cannot afford to have youngsters for the world cup , hasan raza looked awesome but its still to early. He should be the 12th guy..
One more thing..We should make sure our strike bowlers can bat! they need to be given a proper traning.
Saqalin, waqar and shoaib they all need to practice and improve their batting skills!Saqlain specially needs to bat well
Tauqir hints at surprise changes: World Cup probables
22 October 2002
Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Monday hinted surprise changes in the list of probables to be announced later this week for the forthcoming World Cup.
The mega event is scheduled to be held in South Africa in early 2003.
Tauqir said that the board would determine if some senior players who missed the tough series against Australia on medical grounds were genuinely unfit or otherwise.
He warned that if the senior players had avoided facing the Australians deliberately then he would say “good bye” to them. :biggthumb
Veteran fast bowler Wasim Akram and opening batsman Saeed Anwar opted out of the series on pretext of taking rest while middle-order batsmen Inzamam-ul-Haq and Yousuf Youhana were unavailable because of fitness problems. However, all four senior players have expressed their availability for next month’s tour of Zimbabwe.
PCB chief said that Wasim stayed away citing a shoulder problem as one of the reasons for missing the Test series.

Saeed, meanwhile, never indicated his desire to the PCB about his availability to play against Australia in the absence of some senior players.
Tauqir, whose resignation was not accepted by President of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf the patron-in-chief of PCB, in the wake of Pakistan’s recent spate of defeats, said that from now on, he would not depend on his advisors and would personally oversee every matter before taking a decision.
To another query, Tauqir said that Shahid Afridi was sent to Sharjah for the third Test against Australia in place of injured all-rounder Abdul Razzaq. But after reaching Sharjah informed that he was not fit to play.
He said that Shoaib Akhtar was the only match-winner bowler available in the current Pakistan side.
Our Sports Reporter adds from Karachi: Pakistan is contemplating having different captains and teams for Tests and One-day Internationals. This proposal was discussed in detail by PCB hierarchy.
In latest developments, team coach Richard Pybus has been asked to fly back with Pakistan squad at the end of series against Australia to give his views on the teams to be named for the tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Chairman of selectors, Wasim Bari, and Pakistan ‘A’ coach Aqib Javed were originally due in Sharjah to discuss the squad with team management. But this plan has now been changed and meeting may take place at Lahore.
PCB has also decided to hold a one-day match before the squad is announced to assess the fitness and form of Wasim, Saeed and Youhana.
Selectors will pick the two teams for this trial game. Other players expected to be invited are fast bowlers Mohammad Zahid, Abdul Rauf, all-rounder Rana Naveed-ul-Hasan and batsman Naved Latif.
Tauqir also held discussions on the revised constitution of PCB, the draft of which is shortly expected to be presented before President Musharraf for approval.
Meanwhile, Tauqir was given detailed briefing about the development projects in progress. PCB chairman asked the general manager developments, Irfan Mirza, to speed up the work since he would like to have underdeveloped stadia ready before the year is out.

I think the GS users can play better than our cricket team right now.
I suggest we make Umair bhai the Captain and Ehsan bhai the Coach.
Maybe then we can win a few games :D
Azhar and Inzi
Only 2 Pakistani batsmen have averages above 30 in either ODI or test matches in S.A. They are Inzi and azhr Mahmood.
Azhr Mahmood is a very good player of pace bowling and his swing bowling in S.A conditions will make him a valuable member of the team
5Abi,
I disagree - ehsan bhai should be the Captain and Xtreme as the Coach. Umair can be our fast bowler. :D
salam

My Team for WC :)
Saeed Anwar
Shahid Afridi
Yousaf Youhana
Inzamam Ul Haq
Younas Khan
Azhar Mahmood
Razzaq
Rashid Latif
Waseem Akram
Saqlain
Waqar
and
Shoaib is 12th man
Imran Nazir 13th ;)
baqi yeh jo juniors jinhoon nay ubhi thora aacha perform keya hay will not be fair kay unhain WC ki team main leya jaaye.
in our team there should always be a 6th bowler, coz koi bharosa nahin Shoaib Akhtar, he can get unfit between a game, Pakistan has been lacking this for a ages, only sometimes when Afridi is playin so it doesnt matter, but as some paki bowlers need some batting training, in the same way paki batsmen also should try opening their arms, this really helps the regular bowlers in some way or the other!!!!
All of you are putting a star next to Waseem Akram... are you saying he should be the captain of the team?
On the other hand, Umair would love to see Waseem kicked out of the team for "abandoning" them for Aussie series. :)
Now, thats a big swing.
For the world cup 2003, General saheb will be well-advised to swallow his (ill deserved) pride and rely on experienced senior players as much as possible. Based on the disastrous performance of our "new blood" team against Australia, it is clear that we need experienced players to anchor the team if we want any little hopes of progressing beyond the first round.
After WC 2003, feel free to mess up the whole team and bring all the youngsters as your want. Most of the oldies will retire from int'l cricket anyway at that time.
Faisal I think they should be punished atleast Wasim and Saeed but they shouldn't be kicked out as I think they are very important.
I don't think our team should be comprised of senior players completely, we only had Imran and Javed in 92 and the rest of the team were under 25 years of age, wasim, aaqib, malik, ijaz, inzi, mushtaq.
Umair... I have no particular fondness for dinosaurs either, but looking at the just concluded disaster, I'd try to limit the risk as much as possible.
All you are looking for is some kinda monitory penalty i.e. fine? tsk tsk. :)
my team for the world cup is the following:
Saeed Anwar
Imran Nazir/Shahid Khan Afridi
Yousaf Youhana
Inzamam-ul-Haq
Younis Khan
Abdur Razzaq/Azhar Mahmood
Rashid Latif/Moin Khan
Wasim Akram
Saqlain Mushtaq
Waqar Younis
Shoaib Akhtar
this team is capable of winning the world cup if it plays to its true potential. if pakistan clears the first round without any major hiccups i think they have a good chance to win the cup.
Re: salam
Now that looks like a good fighting team :k: :k: :k:
It is too early too predict a team for WC, we still have 4 months about 10 more matches to play, so there is plenty of time. It would really depend on form and fittness of the players.
Sadly to say Inzi is really looking doubtful, he shouldn't be played in the upcoming test series in Zimbabwe, just the one dayers to avoid more surgeries. Inzi should be rested as much as possible.
Of the current players, I would go for
Saeed Anwar
Mizbah ul Haq
Yousuf Youhana
Inzimam ul Haq
Younis Khan
Shahid Afridi
Abdul Razzaq
Rashid Latif
Wasim Akram
Waqar Younis
Shoaib Akhtar
This looks to be a strong bowling and batting lineup, yes I know Saqlain is missing but spinners won't be that successfull on spining tracks, I would play Afridi instead just to bring as an extra batsman. Looking at the unpredictable batting, we do need more batsman than required.
Mizbah should be given chance to open, he doesn't seem to play the spinners very well, he played the Aussie fast bowlers well in Kenya, so it wouldn't hurt.
I would still keep, Hasan Raza, Faisal Iqbal, Saqlain Mushtaq, Muhammad Sami as backup players.
