** Pakistan suspend Butt, Amir and Asif’s contracts **
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has suspended the central contracts of batsman Salman Butt and pace bowlers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif.
The trio are under investigation for alleged spot-fixing during Pakistan’s tour of England earlier this year.
They remain provisionally suspended from all cricketing activities by the International Cricket Council.
Butt and Amir lost their appeals to the ICC over the provisional bans, while Asif had withdrawn his appeal.
PCB official Zakir Khan said the contracts were suspended in line with the ICC’s anti-corruption code.
“Their contracts were active until the appeal hearing but once their initial appeals were rejected under the ICC code we can’t keep them on contracts,” stated Khan.
Meanwhile, PCB legal advisor Tafazzul Rizvi explained that the PCB had suspended the contracts stopped paying the trio because they were no longer eligible to play for the national side.
“We only give contracts to players who can play for Pakistan. Until their cases are decided… they can’t get any benefits from the board in terms of contracts,” he added.
Butt, who was Test captain during the summer tour of England and seamers Amir and Asif were questioned by British police following allegations published in the News of the World newspaper at the end of August about the final Test against England at Lord’s.
It was claimed that Asif and Amir deliberately bowled no-balls at pre-arranged times during the Test, with Butt also said to be involved, in return for money from a bookmaker’s “middle man”.
Fellow seamer Wahab Riaz was also questioned by police, whose investigation - separate from the ICC Anti-Corruption and Security Unit’s (ACSU) own investigation - remains ongoing, although no criminal charges have yet been brought.

^^^ I always knew Butt was in for a shock awakening…
and PCB has bent over and is taking the kicks as they deserve from ICC…

"We only give contracts to players who can play for Pakistan. Until their cases are decided... they can't get any benefits from the board in terms of contracts," he added.
Why can't Pakistan gov't do the same with Ijaz Butt? i.e. "We only give contracts to officials who work **for **Pakistan".
Re: Pakistan suspend Butt, Amir and Asif's contracts
Board should support their players rather than cancelling their contracts
what if players r not founded guilty
Board can only support palyers which are clean not satay baaz who brought shame on the country. Also once a player is suspended there is no reason to pay him especially under the current circumstances.
Support your country not individuals, especially the ones who are harming your country and only care about linning their own pockets.
Re: Pakistan suspend Butt, Amir and Asif's contracts
It seems like the board has ditched them. I feel sorry for the three for the first time.
What happened to the two hours of cross questioning by the high commission and PCB..everything was clean..wasn't it?

Re: Pakistan suspend Butt, Amir and Asif’s contracts
aamer is such a dope…
if he really was trying to bowl a bouncer per his captains direction then why not steer away from butt and go to ICC and say that. Why keep buddying up with him…
LAHORE: Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Aamir, provisionally suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his alleged involvement in the spot-fixing controversy, has said he is “desperate” to return to the national team. Aamir’s been out of action since the Lord’s Test earlier this year and will learn his fate – along with Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif – after the final hearings in relation to the spot-fixing controversy are heard by the ICC’s three-man tribunal in Doha in January 2011.
Aamir had challenged the suspension imposed on him but his appeal was rejected last month and his PCB central contract subsequently revoked. “I am really missing not playing for my country and I am absolutely desperate to return to the side once the ongoing issues have been resolved,” Aamir told PakPassion.net. “I pray that everything turns out well for me. I have been watching the matches against South Africa on television and it hurts so much when we lose and I can’t do anything about it. This spell away from cricket has really hit me hard and I pray and hope that my pain at not being allowed to play cricket ends soon.”
Despite the uncertainty over his cricketing future, Aamir has been training to keep his fitness intact. “I’ve been training hard,” Aamir said. “At times alone, and other times it’s with local club players. It’s not been easy but I have continued to keep up my training levels and attempted to keep my morale high. “I have been playing football to also help with my fitness and I’m also taking part in some 35-over night-cricket matches in Lahore. It’s not first-class cricket or international cricket of course, but it’s cricket of a decent standard and keeps me involved in the game.”
