Pakistan sucessfully tests fire Ghauri Hatf V (MERGED)

http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/asiapcf/05/29/pakistan.missile/index.html

These missiles have already been tested by North Korea, so why are the Pakis testing them again ? I guess they may be testing the green coat of paint on the missile.

duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh even i knew that

Pakistan sucessfully tests fire Ghauri Hatf V

RAWALPINDI, May 29 (APP): Pakistan conducted a highly successful test fire of its nuclear capable Hatf V Ghauri Intermediate range Ballistic Missile on Saturday morning.

The test was in continuation of the series of tests which are conducted by Pakistan from time to time to validate various improvements in the qualitative parameters of its vast range of ballistic missiles inventory.

The Ghauri missile, can carry all types of warheads upto 1500 kilometers, is second only to Hatf VI Shaheen II in terms of range.

It may be recalled that Shaheen II, with a range of 2000 kms, wassuccessfully tested in March this year with its impact point at sea.

A special feature of today’s test of Ghauri missile was that it was witnessed by the Prime Minister Mir Zafrullah Khan Jamali. The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Muhammad Aziz Khan, Director General Strategic Plans division Lt. Gen. Khalid Kidwai, commander Army strategic force Command Lt. Gen. Ghulam Mustafa, chairman KRL Dr. Javed Mirza and Chairman NESCOM Dr. Samar Mubarakmand.

Later, talking to the scientists, engineers and staff who participated in the launch, the Prime Minister congratulated all concerned on their unique technical success and spirit of team work between various strategic organizations which resulted in achieving unprecedented results. He said that Pakistan's policy of maintaining minimum credible deterrence as a cornerstone of its national security policy, had been conceived after much thought and care and it had stood the test of time and events of the last several years.

The Prime Minister made it clear that Pakistan’s edge over its adversaries in the strategic field will be maintained at all cost and his government will provide necessary resources to maintain the quality of the nation’s deterrence.

It may be recalled that the Ghauri Missile system was inducted to the Army Strategic Forces Command early last year alongwith Shaheen I and Ghaznavi Ballistic Missile systems.

As per standard practice, neighboring countries were given advance
notice of today’s test.

Ghauri 3 to be tested on June 3rd.

Thats the news in the press, I'll post some of it if you guys want.

The missle will be liquid feul, and have a range of 3500km-which would cover all the ME I believe.

Shaheen 2 covered all of India for us, and thus this missle can be seen as a way of exanding our reach globally.

Re: Pakistan tests nuke-capable missile

Please dont use the word paki i find it very offensive, and the hataf is a Pakistani variant of the cheng-dong missile… Key word “variant”

Variant my foot. They are repainted that's all.

What about its accuracy? According to some data published, India's missle accuracy rate is much highter than that of Pakistan's. I hope our scientists have corrected those flaws.

Nuclear Family…welcome?

Pakistan Test Fires Nuclear-Capable Missile

Headlines ^ story read…

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Pakistan successfully test-fired on Saturday a ballistic missile capable of carrying nuclear warheads, as part of efforts to boost defenses in its rivalry with India.

The test of the Ghauri (Hatf V) missile, capable of carrying all types of warheads and traveling up to 930 miles, came a week after a new government took office in India.

A Pakistani military statement said Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali watched the test-firing, but did not say where the test was carried out.

I want to know where the anti-nuke people are in Pakistan.

Nukes are the ugliest thing on earth.

Purposely designed to inflict destructoin and hurt.

Nukes are God’s nightmare for mankind.

Get your facts right, its the other way around. Indian missiles have a higer area covrage while Pakistani missiles have a higher accuracy!

And Hataf V is a very accurate missile.

Re: Nuclear Family…welcome?

Firstly, why should people in Pakistan be anti-nuke when it is the only thing offering us protection form a vastly larger army.?

Secondly where are the Anti- Nuke people in India?

Thirdly this technology needs development otherwise it goes to waste. Pakistan needs this technology to level the odds and should not give it up until a suitable altenative can be found.

^ havn't got details for the recent developments but as I am uptaded till 1998 (when we tested Ghauri II), Ghauri-II benefits from this spin-up technology, it spin up the single booster stage and warhead combination starting at about 10 seconds before the termination of the powered flight at 110 seconds. At this point after 110 seconds of powered flight the warhead is then separated from the booster stage to fly on a re-entry trajectory that remains stable to its target. With the addition of GPS targeting the warhead accuracy is greatly enhanced. which gives an accuracy 190 meters; which is enough if equiped with an atomic warhead. There souldn't be any doubts about improvements in 6 years.

Agree. Where are those anti-nuke people in India?

And what? is so wrong with the world....that people come to the conclusion that an ugly nuclear weapon will solve problems?

Doesn't matter where you live. Doesn't matter what your name is. What matters is.....

What matters most.

India has more anti-nuclear activists than many nations in the world and they are very, very vocal.

See:

Praful Bidwai

Arundhati Roy

M.V.Ramana

Achin Vanaik

Let’s stick to facts shall we?

really interesting.... history tells us nukes infact saved the world from 3rd world war (refering to summer of 1962's crisis in Cuba), thats the only reason there was only cold war among the super powers.
In sub-continent it realy worked in 2002, if you can recall Kargil issue!
I don't see any reason for india and Pakistan to give up nukes, as its the only thing keeping these countries away from going to war.

LOL, never heard of them in the news? Have you got anything real like Stop the War coalation? … Nope thought not! … lol…

Never heard of them? How convenient.

Every one of them writes in Pak papers, but I gues you cannot read

Check The News and Daily Times for instance

Firstly yes your right, i cant rwad the same trash you do… I am a more avid reader of the dawn then the crappy times or THE NEWS…
Now secondly instead of insulting me why dont you goto http://www.stopwar.org.uk/ and read about their agenda… Now thats a real group!

Our Missiles marshallah are excellent. I have read that many American experts are still not convinced that India has the capacity to place a nuke atop a missile.

Pakistan brought this design of China-that is well known. So from an aided base design ,we are well ahead of India in Missle development.
