Pakistan standard of living

For those of you who live in Pakistan, or have lived there long enough in the past to gauge the below - please advise, I need this information.

Living in the US my whole life, I have a grasp on what the standard of living is here.. of course, it will vary a bit from city to city and state to state, however, overall, I know what is considered good income to live comfortably etc etc..

what I don't know, is how the standard of living is in Pakistan. can anyone tell me, what is a good amount of income to live on over there? and I am not talking about the high society life of having parties every other day, or new designer clothes to wear and not repeat or fancy cars etc... I mean, actual, average joe shmo people, how much would they need to live comfortably for food/rent/maids etc etc etc...

or, would it be easier if I gave out a number? let's say, you are given 300,000 rupees a month... is that enough/not enough? is that good for living the high life or spending freely etc in a city like Lahore/Karachi ? or would you still be scrapped for cash cuz the cost of living is too high?

Hi, here is a list about the cost of living in Pakistan. You can also choose which city and it displays the cost of living there. Hope it helps

thank you, that does help .. but adding every single thing up etc to get a roundabit figure is a bit difficult.. but still helps nonetheless :)

**Yes what @Rose887 has provided is quite good and upto date! I on the other hand have relatives for instance one who retired from Steel Mill, so his housing and utilities are almost free and he says him being ONE person since his kids are grown, He can live on Rs 7000/- per month pension!

That includes food clothing and even travel! that is probably at low end of the spectrum, Where as Rs 3 Lakh would be posh living with all amenities sure**!:k:

**Yes I would say you would be upper Middle Class!

I recently came from Islamabad Bahria Town, in Bahria Town I asked a Gaurd who patrols the Bharia Compound what was the Salary of the street sweepers I see every early morning on my walks,

He said they all recently got a raise by Imran Khan’s order, they used to make Rs 13000/- Month now they make Rs 16000/- per Month!

So you can easily gauge where Rs 3 Lakh will fall :snooty:**

In my opinion 60-70 thousands is more than enough for a normal couple with 2 to 3 kids...

jeeez ..okay good to know !

with Rs. 300K you can live quite a luxuirous life. An averge joe does not make that much money in. PK. An average joe makes somewhere around Rs, 17K and it is barely enough to survive these days (with all the Tabdeel and Mehngai these days in PK). What is considered a good figure to live a comfortable life in PK? It varies, it depends on your lifestyle as well. I know people who are single making 100K, living with their parents in rent free house, and dont pay for any household expenditure and still have no money left/saved at the end of the month.

Inke paise jaatey kidher hain!!??

I have always wondered that too..i am glad someone asked that question!. And ya know i thought you should be making 200K/month to be able to survive in Pak. But according to few here...you can live a good life with more than 200K/month.

Makes sense ..

Are you moving to Pakistan? :ouch:

They are many people who are surviving in limited income too depends what is an average income and so called luxury life

all depends how much you can survive on basic things

Pakistan is the coolest country if you socialized less with clowns ..

Pakistan is the coolest country if you socialized less with clowns ..

Reminds me of a quote "We buy things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't like."

That quote is so true for some people .. i know of a girl who says that she basically has to buy designer stuff like clothes/handbags etc just because of the social circle she is in... she doesnt want to... thats what they do, so she has to also..otherwise she wouldnt fit in with these people shes already associating with

one of the dumbest things i have ever heard

3 lakh per month in Pakistan should be considered equivalent to $180,000 per year in the US as far as purchasing power parity is considered. This is of course, a rough rule of thumb.
