Pakistan collected four rating points from their first Test series win in Sri Lanka since 2006
South Africa 130
Australia 111 3. Pakistan 101
New Zealand 99
India 97
England 97
Sri Lanka 92
West Indies 81
Bangladesh 41
Zimbabwe 5
Pakistan have catapulted from sixth place to third in the ICC Test rankings after centuries from Younis Khan and Shan Masood in the Pallekele Test helped them wrap up the series against Sri Lanka 2-1 with a record chase.
Pakistan, who had begun the series with 97 points, bagged four rating points from the win and steered clear of England, India and New Zealand. On the other side, Sri Lanka lost four points and retained their spot at No. 7 with 92 points. Pakistan now lead New Zealand by two points while trailing second-placed Australia by ten.
Meanwhile, India and England are caught in the mid-table jam with 97 points each. England will break away and vault to second place if they win the Ashes by 3-0 or a better margin. South Africa top the table with 130 points.
Interesting isn't it. While the Era before misbah we had mardhaar type players hence we were better off in odi n t20 now we r very low in odi n t20 but relatively consistent in tests.
In my opinion this way is better as the technically correct players will be coming in tests n from there move to odi.
I have come across degrading comments by Pak posters on other forums like ' Do Pakistan really deserve their no. 3 ranking in tests considering they have not played in Australia, England or RSA recently/'
Well the truth is most of the current test teams barring South Africa are winning test series at home. So winning in Lanka is no mean achievement esp. given the inexperience in the team. I know England won 2-1 in India last year.
And what about Australia. They have lost their last 6 tests in Asia, 4 against India and 2 vs Pak in UAE not so long ago. So they too struggle in unfamiliar conditions.
Pakistan has actually done well in England and NZ in recent times compared to our Asian neighbours.
That said Pak need to work on their batting inconsistencies, the main reason why we struggle in places like Aus and RSA.

Another thing Aussies always avoid to visit Pakistan and just check how much test and ODI they have played in Pakistan.
Every team has made their ranking better while playing their home soil.
Whereas Pakistan playing outside their homeland and with lot of issues. Hats off for them
Hatters will always hate Pakistan
Cricket style is clearly divided into fast pitches of Aus ', NZ n SA. N slow wickets of subcontinent.
They play better in their conditions n we play better test cricket in our conditions.
After Shane Warne aussies didn't had fine spinner hence they are struggling.
Same for England. SA due to the batting power house playing well in all conditions.
ODI is a totally different story n we are lagging day by day. Earlier we were having great bowlers all times who were compensating our fragile batting. Now after ajmal n hafeez we have ordinary Bowling line up hence we r bound to struggle until we get excellent bowling again. Our batting will remain like this considering our domestic pitches.
