LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif, seen as the front-runner in election race, said the country should reconsider its support for the US war on militancy and suggested that he was in favour of negotiations with the Taliban.

Nawaz said the military’s US-backed campaign against the Taliban was not the best way to defeat the insurgency.

“I think guns and bullets are always not the answer to such problems,” he told Reuters in an interview in his black armoured car on Saturday. “I think other options need to be explored at the same time and see what is workable. And I think we’re going to pursue all these other options.”

Nawaz wants a review of the backing provided for the US war on militancy under the previous government’s approach.

Someone will have to take this problem seriously,” said Nawaz. “All stakeholders will have to sit down together and understand the concerns of all parties and then take a decision, which is in the best interest of Pakistan and the international community.”

His comments are likely to anger Washington, which has been pushing Pakistan to both stamp out domestic militancy – where TTP militants are waging a violent campaign to impose their austere brand of religion – and to help defeat the Afghan Taliban.

If an ounce of honesty and a shred of morality are left in those who used to castigate IK for this position on Taliban and opposition towards war on terror policy, then they should now stand in front of a mirror and spit on their faces. Almost the entire nation, headed by the so-called liberal media, was at his throat for having a stand on this issue which differed from the common opinion wave. This is the difference between a leader and a joker — a leader does not succumb to popular opinion or demand. He sees the future through this vision and puts his people on the right track, however bumpier it may appear.

And now finally Mr. Sharif also wakes up to the right approach. The darling of media has finally discovered the right formula to cope with the problem — something IK had been advocating for years. A ruler and a leader are two entirely different commodities. I wish the nation also awakens to the truth and see who it should be following.

So is he the new chosen one to bail USA outta the graveyard we all know by the name of Afghanistan ?

Re: Pakistan should reconsider support for US war on terror: Nawaz

All USA needs is 8-10 months of chaos in Pakistan and they will be out. After that, it will be replay of restrictions, embargoes, blames (should i say more blames) or they can even find another Abbottabad somewhere in Pakistan

Re: Pakistan should reconsider support for US war on terror: Nawaz

Indirectly he is again begging USA :hehe:

Re: Pakistan should reconsider support for US war on terror: Nawaz

This is not US war anymore they have killed many innocent Pakistani's in the name of religion. Talibans are brainwashed ignorant parasites they will not stop this war until we hand over our whole country in their hand and implement their desired backward taliban law.

Re: Pakistan should reconsider support for US war on terror: Nawaz

^ When he is asking to "reconsider" support, he is actually expressing his dissatisfaction with the status quo and making a statement against the US/allies. Now PML-N has a track record of appeasement of terrorists so it is hardly surprising that its party chief would express such views and want to negotiate with taliban. This stance is coming, moreover, from the same party whose chief minister in Punjab shamelessly expressed support for and begged the taliban to "spare Punjab." Also, the despicable policy of PML-N of turning a blind eye to and appeasement of terrorists for the sake of a few seats and to frolic with people like Rana Sanaullah has already cost Shias and Hazaras of the country dearly. PML-N has a lot of blood of Shias on its hands.

That is correct. It is and has been a battle for Pakistan as we know it. taliban are ruthless animals who kill people, attack little girls and oppress everyone especially women and minorities, and want to impose their totalitarian dystopia on 180 million Pakistanis.

Qadam Barhao Nawaz Sharif Hum Imran Khan ke sath hai!

Re: Pakistan should reconsider support for US war on terror: Nawaz

The guy has a habit of putting his foot in his mouth often, specially when speaking with foreign TV channels. I wonder why his party members dont stop him from doing such interviews.

He told CNN India that we will conduct an inquiry into Kargil, and share the findings with India.
He also outlined the process of how he would appoint the next COAS.

So much for a statesman......more like an idiot.

Re: Pakistan should reconsider support for US war on terror: Nawaz

He is not doing or saying ANYTHING that other politicians do not. He is saying this now to appeal to the voters who do not like the USA. No different from IK saying statements in support of taleban to appeal to the voters who believe taleban represents religion!

they are all the same - just the facade changes time to time depending upon need and their perception of winning strategy!

Re: Pakistan should reconsider support for US war on terror: Nawaz

There is no "Taliban law" and they are not fighting for Islam, that should be clear to everyone by now. They are mafias, gangsters who thrive on lawlessness.
