Pakistan Set to BAN "FIVE" Players until World Cup

PAKISTAN is set to bar five players from their team until after next year’s World Cup under an agreement with the ICC, according to former Pakistan batsman Aftab Gul.

Gul, who is now a lawyer and is representing suspended Pakistan captain Salman Butt in the investigation into the Lord’s spot-fixing scandal, named the players as Butt, Mohammed Aamer, Mohammad Asif, Kamran Akmal and Danish Kaneria.

"The International Cricket Council and Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, Ijaz Butt have entered into a verbal agreement that these players will not represent the Pakistan team at least until the World Cup is played, " Gul said.

“I have this information from the people involved with the game and I am 100 per cent sure that these players will not play the World Cup”.

Butt, Aamer, Asif and Akmal are all under investigation for allegedly engaging in spot fixing - guaranteeing certain outcomes - during the match against England at Lord’s in August.

Aamer and Asif are alleged to have bowled no-balls to order - a move that would to potentially hugely benefit betting syndicates.

Akmal is also under investigation by the ICC for allegedly being involved in fixing Pakistan’s Test against Australia at the SCG in Sydney.

The reason for Kaneria’s exclusion from the squad it not clear. He had been picked for Pakistan’s team to play two upcoming Tests against South Africa but was suddenly omitted.

Pakistan is scheduled to travel to New Zealand (December 26 to Feb. 5) and play three Twenty20s, two Tests matches and six ODIs’ before the next year’s World Cup to be played in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

I thought Kamran was already cleared of any spot fixing doubts in Sydney test, so why banning him now?

And yes, whatever happened to all the investigations into spot fixing scandal? Been over two months and neither Yard nor ICC has turned over any report or brought any formal charges against anyone involved.

Exactly! Incompetent Clueless Clownscould have taken care of that issue by now. If there was/is an evidence, the players could have been banned otherwise we would have moved on.

Bottomline, due to PCB and ICC incompetence , Pakistan's image is getting tained more and more.

If true this is a serious (though not entirely unexpected) set-back for Pakistan ahead of next year's world cup. The ICC and PCB are incompetent organisations at best but the players only have themselves to blame for this

They brought it upon themselves thru greed and indiscipline

Kaneria was never an ODI player, so is Asif who's more of a test bowler. Salman Butt is not indispensable by any means. Hafeez - although like brainless Afridi, Hafeez seems to suffer from the same lapses in concentration + judgement and stupidly throws his wicket away when well-set at the crease - is doing an adequate job in the ODIs at present but *Pakistan will miss Mohammed Aamer and Kamran Akmal in the world cup. *

Don't worry we have a large pool of players thanks to Akmal's dad - 7 sons, all playing cricket!! Three brothers have now represented Pakistan at test level - Kamran, Umar and Adnan, infact all three have kept wickets for Pakistan in the same year!! Is that some sort of a record?

The reason for Kaneria's exclusion is his invlovement in a spot fixing investigation related to English County.

Cleared of criminal charges by Police not disciplinary by ICC. And I don’t know how ICC plans to gather evidence against him? ICC is all set to make an absolute mockey of this entire issue.

One can look at it positively

Sure this would dent our chances of doing well in the world cup but this could be the best thing to happen to Pakistan cricket for a whille. End the corruption, end the fixing and end the daily embarrassment we face. Teach those who think they are bigger than the game a lesson so next time no one even thinks about playing around with the integrity of the country.

And it is not just the players who are bringing embarrassment to Pakistan day in, day out. The incompetent board officials and their poor management is equally responsible for this mess. Their daily u-turns - banning and then unbanning players, fining them and then retracting all fines as if nothing ever happened - is the reason why our players are so undisciplined & unprofessional and take liberties with the system. Lack of basic education also has a lot to do with the players' general attitude and behaviour. You w'd never expect someone like Imran Khan or Ramiz Raja or even Misbah to behave like this. I know Salman Butt's case does not support my last point but he is probably an exception to the rule

And to those of you who still believe that the players are innocent, a simple loud and clear NO would have sufficed. Sadly we heard nothing of that sort from Salman Butt et al. So I have no reason to believe that they are not guilty

^very well said. The players are guilty and the PCB has finally deserted them to save Pakistan cricket. I was reading another report today that a motion was presented to the ICC by the Asian bloc recommending to ban Pakistan from all forms of cricket until they get their house in order, but it was Giles Clark, head of ECB who supported Pakistan's cause by disagreeing with that motion and said if Pakistan gets rid of the involved players they should be supported and not be banned.

Great post brother.... every word of it..

It would be very good for Pak cricket if these players are banned.. it's similar to how India got rid of Jadeja and Azhar for good.. who in that time were the captain and the VC.. the main core of the team..

There is a lot of talent in Pak and the next crop of good players will be around the corner. Cannot defend the guilty just because the guilty players have talent.

Unfortunately I do not see the Pak officials getting their act together anytime soon. This comedy has been going on for 2-3-4 yrs now and in my guestimate will continue for another few years.

The fastest solution in my opinion would actually be let the ICC directly control the PCB.. let the ICC appoint PCB officials and run the game in Pakistan... it's a little like president's rule for troubled states within a country..
