ISLAMABAD: The government has asked the Swiss authorities to reject the plea for political asylum made by Bramdagh Bugti, who heads an outlawed Baloch rebel group, and extradite him to Pakistan.

The authorities have yet to hear from Berne about their request, but they say the initial response of the Swiss government was that of consideration.

Bugti, 30, heads the separatist Baloch Republican Party and its militant wing, the Baloch Republican Army. He has been accused of attacks against settlers in Balochistan, government installations and armed forces.

The ‘proofs’ of his involvement in subversive activities have also been handed over to the Swiss officials, an official said.

But, on being questioned by Swiss authorities about Pakistani allegations, a Western diplomat said he denied them and alleged that he was facing threats to his life in Pakistan because of his “support for the freedom of Balochistan”.

He is the second rebel leader whose asylum has been officially opposed by the government. Islamabad had previously tried to block Hyrbyair Marri’s application for asylum in the United Kingdom. However, he succeeded in getting it this year after being initially rejected by the Home Office.

Bugti has been on the run since 2006 and initially took refuge in Afghanistan, where he stayed for almost four years. His stay in Afghanistan sparked a diplomatic row between Kabul and Islamabad, which had been demanding his handover.

The US and some of the Western countries, in an effort to defuse tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan and for improving their counter-terrorism cooperation, helped him to relocate to Switzerland, where he along with his family reached last year in October and sought asylum. A UN agency is also believed to have played an active role in facilitating his transfer to Switzerland via UAE.

According to a Pakistani security official Bugti traveled to Geneva on an Indian passport. The claim could, however, not be verified independently. Pakistan security agencies have long accused India of sponsoring his terrorist activities.

Pakistan doesn’t have an extradition treaty with Switzerland. However, the officials are still keeping their hopes about getting his asylum requested rejected and ultimately extradited.

“For extradition a treaty is not essential. A sovereign country can always extradite a foreign national on legally maintainable grounds. Such precedents also exist,” a Pakistani official following Bugti’s case explained.

But, what worries Islamabad is that Western governments have been generally sympathetic to Baloch separatists and some of them have, what some officials say: “indirectly patronized them”.

According to WikiLeaks, CIA station chief in December 2009 had discussed with Director General ISI Lt Gen Shuja Pasha the possibility of transferring Bugti to Ireland, which had promised asylum for him. But, Gen Pasha rejected the initiative stressing that he should be returned to Pakistan, where he would stand trial for his crime.

The proposal had been initiated by UNHCR, whose top brass desired to reciprocate the help by ‘Baloch people’ in recovering kidnapped UNHCR official John Solecki. Pakistani security agencies had alleged that Solecki had been kidnapped by Bugti and
had asked US officials to directly speak to him (Bugti), while he was in Kabul.

The US had in February 2010 explored the possibility of swapping Bugti with Taliban leader Mullah Baradar, who was in the custody of Pakistani agencies. However, the idea was not encouraged by Pakistan. Mullah Baradar’s transfer was later also blocked through a court ruling.Ends

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti's extradition from Switzerland

I sincerely hope that snakes like Bramdagh Bugti are extradited to Pakistan and hung in public for the massacre of punjabi and urdu-speaking population of Balochistan. What is really shameful is that they targeted innocent non-balochs who had been living in Balochistan for decades and had worked for the same province. For anyone having any doubts, he publicly announced on live TV that every Baloch should kill at least one punjabi. By the way, its not just urdu-speaking and punjabi community which has suffered at his hands. BRA has reportedly been active in killing of pushtuns in interior Balochistan as well. Moreover, the constant blowing up of electricity pylons by Bramdagh's group has brought the pushtun farmers across the pushtun belt in Balochistan to their knees as hundreds and thousands of trees have dried up due to lack of water as water pumps could not be operated due to lack of electricity. So much so that many pushtuns in the regions of Pishin, Ziarat and Sanjawi have simply given up their lifetime worth of hardwork and taken up other professions. Moreover, due to the constant butchering of non-balochs in Quetta and constant strikes, they have paralyzed the businesses owned by pushtuns and punjabis in Quetta.

I think it is high time that the head of this snake be crushed. I have however doubts that switzerland or USA will let that happen as Bramdagh is a big asset of these western coutries along with India which has made sure that Gwadar will never achieve its potential. However, if left this way, there is a 100% probability that he will raise his head again a couple of years later with the help of USA/India and that time, he will be a menacing force against Pakistan.

May Allah give us strength to finish this hindu-backed snake who is a killer of hundreds of muslims !!

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti's extradition from Switzerland

Maybe Pakistan can take care of the Marris sitting in Quetta before they go after people in Switzerland. The Pakistani agencies just don't have the will to do anything concrete.

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti's extradition from Switzerland

I don't think anything will happen, all this rattle seems to be a cheap publicity stunt

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti's extradition from Switzerland

Maybe Pakistani agencies would have succeeded in doing something about marris if the CIA, NATO and Indians hadn't kept on providing funding, weapons, training of sabotage tactics and protection to terrorist Baloch organizations.

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti's extradition from Switzerland

What the hell are you soking man? The Marri family is sitting in their palace, not in hiding. Don't tell me the CIA, NATO, RAW, Mossad,Terminator, James Bond, Captain America are standing guard outside their house!

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti's extradition from Switzerland

I am not "soking" anything......lolz......and no, the terrorist elements in marris are not sitting in the open like ducks...they are hiding in the mountains and everytime that Pakistan starts something against them, the CIA provides these thugs exact information about the movement of the pakistani troops through satellite imagery just like they let their ttp branch leaders know in advance about any possible operation against them.

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti's extradition from Switzerland

I can argue with real data, not but not with imaginary data.

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti's extradition from Switzerland

THats one frickin hypocrisy of western world to allow terrorists operating in 3rd world to have safe havens in their countries.

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti's extradition from Switzerland

so if some person was wanted by the western law hides in Pakistan, would that not be called as Pakistan sponsoring terrorism? and if situation reverses.. what west would call it???

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti's extradition from Switzerland

^ if its the other way round they are the beacons if democracy and champions of human rights

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti's extradition from Switzerland

Protecting the innocent and freedom of speech.

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti's extradition from Switzerland

$pend some $$$ and take care of him there instead of bringing him to Pakistan, where his chances of taking advantage of system are very very high.

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti's extradition from Switzerland

They could kill or extradite Bramdagh but it wont make anything better. The reality is most Baloch want independence and very few have any feelings for Pakistan. We can all sit here and call them snakes and traitors but how would we feel if we lived in a shared house and we did not get a fair share? Not many people will accept to living second class.

There may never be a solution to the issue. It might be too late. I hope it is not but the reality is that our political leaders and military leaders care about 1 thing - their own pocket.

WHY should Bramdagh be extradited when we Musharaf and Altaf Hussain are also living in exile?

Bramdagh is better where he is. If in Pakistan the Baloch would surely feel even more angry.

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti's extradition from Switzerland

Have you ever been to Baluchistan? Apart from a few terrorist elements hell bent on creating mayhem, everyone just wants to live in peace and have enough to eat. The average Baloch has some grievances, but nothing that can't be solved with a few concessions.

On the other hand, if I were a Baloch, I WOULD WANT INDEPENDENCE from a country which has only taken and never given. But then, most people don't share my views...

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti's extradition from Switzerland

mashAllah it always amazes me how indians take such a keen interest in proving that Balochistan is on the verge of separation on forums. lolz....wet dreams !!

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti's extradition from Switzerland

But why west is not handing over the killer of Akbar Bugti.
Mush should be extradited to Pakistan and must face a court of law and court martial.

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti's extradition from Switzerland

Hasn't ISI in essence failed in its duty of protecting Pakistan from external threats?

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti's extradition from Switzerland

if you are an indian , how the hell you know every baloch or most baloch want freedom ? if you are pakistani then you are your country's enemy because you are talking what can bring upon you charge of treason , regarding separation ground reality is different , same things were being spread by some elements( i s i was active and helping them) who wanted to destabilise india about punjab and sikhs ,what happend? punjab is well within india separatists either killed or fled to take asylum in some country .
same thing is being enacted here certainly outside support is being given to baloochs that is bad , india and pakistan should immediately stop support to any type of insurgency with immediate effect within one another's territory . this is what common people of india want the same i believe about common people of pakistan . rest is internal matter of pakistan and people of pakistan can handle it because every country has some backward area and special care is given these areas in developmental process.

Re: Pakistan seeks Bramdagh Bugti’s extradition from Switzerland

you are always amazed, amused by indians, very very special treatment for indians is always at your hands ? good going   :biggthumb:
