Pakistan seeks $6 bn aid from Saudi Arabia in return for land .

Mashallah. $6 billion for hundreds of thousands of acres of agricultural land is not a bad price.

I wonder if other pieces of Pakistani could be sold to foreign countries? Seems to be a good price PM Gilani is getting?

Pakistan seeks $6 bn aid from Saudi Arabia in return for land

Pakistan will seek $6 billion aid from Saudi Arabia during Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s visit, in return offering land for growing and exporting wheat.

Gilani arrived in Medina Friday and will be joined Sunday by Asif Ali Zardari, co-chair of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) that leads the country’s ruling coalition.

‘The package being envisaged includes free oil and lavish provision of wheat supplies by Saudi Arabia, now said to have abundant food supplies,’ The News said Saturday.

** In return, Pakistan would offer ‘hundreds of thousands of acres of agricultural land, which could be tilled by the Saudis and the product could be taken away for consumption in the kingdom’, it added.**

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmud Qureshi, Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar, Water and Power Minister Pervez Ashraf and Agriculture Minister Nazar Gondal are accompanying the prime minister.

The Saudis would also be asked to set up fertiliser plants in Pakistan to boost food production.

Speaking to reporters on the flight to Saudi Arabia, Gilani hoped his talks, to be held in Jeddah Sunday, would be fruitful.

I am unsure as to how to go about responding to this. No wait, I am shocked. Are people in Pakistan okay with this sort of stuff? Has this happened before...officially like this?

Re: Pakistan seeks $6 bn aid from Saudi Arabia in return for land .

I am shocked too. First of all do we have that kind of land laying around somewhere which we can hand over to Saudies ? All the productive agricultural land is already owned and occupied by someone.
May be some land in desert or barren land, which Saudies can turn into agricultural land as they did it in their own country , if something like this is happening I will be OK with it.

Aalsi I am not happy at all. This might lead to talibanisation of our agricultural land. Seriously please do something about it.

I really doubt that, since they already got that enough in their own country. why pay $ 6 billion and spend more to harvest wheat! :chai: let’s wait for more details before passing any judgement.

Reclaiming the Desert

There are areas in the Middle East where the desert has been transformed into productive agricultural zones. But these successes may have produced serious long-term consequences for the environment and human health.

In Saudi Arabia, financial wealth and technology have combined to turn desert into wheat fields. Geographically the largest country in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia covers 2 million km2 on the Arabian Peninsula between the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf. The Saudis built 22 water desalination plants along both coasts. These plants generate about one-third of all the desalinated water produced worldwide. Water from the desalination plant at Al Jubayl on the northern Persian Gulf is pumped to Riyadh and further inland to irrigate wheat fields extending 150 km northwest. Saudi Arabia is the seventh largest wheat supplier in the world. Other agricultural products include tomatoes, melons, barley, dates, citrus fruits, mutton, chicken, eggs, and milk. The annual production meets the basic food needs of the country’s 19 million people.

Re: Pakistan seeks $6 bn aid from Saudi Arabia in return for land .

ok so now Pakistan up for sale, bit by bit sell it to anyone who pays the price to lunatics. I think they should have consulted India- with many billionares they may be able to buy at higher price.
AAZ man go for it, this is your chance of lifetime to make mega money.

personaly I am shocked how low they can get. and I am sure with produce of such land they can easily subcidise the fuel they are asking in retrun from KSA

Re: Pakistan seeks $6 bn aid from Saudi Arabia in return for land .

Great move my great democratic leader led by mandate of the people. They should also auction of the nukes along with AQ Khan to the highest bidder.

Re: Pakistan seeks $6 bn aid from Saudi Arabia in return for land .

^ Musharraf already did that a little while ago.

Re: Pakistan seeks $6 bn aid from Saudi Arabia in return for land .

Can anyone tell how different it is than selling other properties via privatisation?

Re: Pakistan seeks $6 bn aid from Saudi Arabia in return for land .

Its funny how shortcut aziz giving land to uae to set up an oil refinery close to Karachi and the mush-tards were full of praise, even though the oil refineries are worth squats and cause so much environmental damage, and they have a problem with this :hehe:

Re: Pakistan seeks $6 bn aid from Saudi Arabia in return for land .

Yes, when we just went through a wheat crisis, clearly the right thing to do is to give up wheat-growing land to another country.

The important information thats missing from the news is "which land" is being leased out, lets wait for the details before taking out our swords :)

Re: Pakistan seeks $6 bn aid from Saudi Arabia in return for land .

^^^ Saudis want desert land, they already have enough of such kind.

Spock!! so Pakistan shouldnt have refinery as it will have environment effect? you mean Pakistan should import "the cheap" refined oil?

there is vast difference of setting up refinery thats investment into Pakisan and it stays in Pakistan creating jobs too. and the deal selling land of PAkistan to another country for aid or oil or whatever

Re: Pakistan seeks $6 bn aid from Saudi Arabia in return for land .

^ None of that oil was for Pakistan SK, go revive that thread, there was a very nice post that proved it was a worthless project. Ever wondered why all these countries are getting rid of oil refineries?

Not yet, but more to come with UN investigations of BB murder and IAEA investigations of the nuke program etc. Hope they investigate 1971 genocide by army as well.

Re: Pakistan seeks $6 bn aid from Saudi Arabia in return for land .

What other option do they have? No one including USA is willing to buy musharraf...wait a minute they aren't even willing to take him as a piece of charity...he is so unwanted!
This guy has sucked up the whole country...where are they going to bring all that money from for the budget? those who are against it give them your assets...to fill the treasury sucked by musharraf and SHORTCUT AZIZ.

Sure, lets go for it, but the ones responsible for 71 are long dead, however the mastermind behind the proliferation and kargil attack, and possibly the assasination of BB is alive and well. :hehe: (though its being said hes a little shaky and acting senile)

You should try some facts and look at the money the treasury has now vs the previous era. I would recommend Lahore ka cheetah's thread as a start.
