pakistan... safe?

is pakistan still dangerous, has there been an end to kidnapping, ethnic killings etc

or has the situation worsened?

Re: pakistan... safe?

Pakistan is almost safe as USA,India and many other countries.

Re: pakistan... safe?

I strongly disagree, unless ur being sarcastic.

Pakitan especially Karachi is not safe at all, atleast USA and India do not have corrupt prime misnister or presidents, in Karachi the president is killing it's citizens and nit doing anything to prevent such things if they're not involved. They just care about themselves, thEmselves and themselves.

Re: pakistan... safe?

if having to travel around in cars with bullet proof glass just cuz ur from outside pakistan is safe then yeah. Pakistan couldnt be safer

Re: pakistan... safe?

This is all just nonsense,Some among MQM and other groups were involved in target killing in Karachi but after some truth from Great Zulfqar Mirza there is normality in Karachi.
We are facing some terrorism and little unrest in Balochistan but overall Pakistan is still safe.
Our president is not involved in any type of killing but he may be involved in some other things like corruption but Corruption , Bhattah and Chanda khori is common here.

Re: pakistan... safe?

Re: pakistan... safe?

Bhai Jaan

I am pure borne and bread Karachities.

I can to tell you it is not safe at all, I myself was kidnapped once only lucky enough to get out of it without much pain.

One could not carry his mobile phone openly on the street of Karachi do you really need to hide your cell phone on the streets in India/ US?

There are multi layers of problems, on is political criminal mafias, till recently it was not an issue to normal people, as both groups were killing each others known workers.

But now they were just killing senselessly on base of ones ethnicity, thus become problem, on top of situation of general criminal they are robbing peoples without any fear of law. I would even dangerous to stop at traffic light in Karachi.

And also wherever you stuck in traffic jam, there criminal gangs started robbing everyone in cars, again no sign of police at all.

Re: pakistan... safe?

now a days mobile phone thugs ne udham kat rakha hai yar , ncr and delhi me they simply divert your attention and other gang members do the job of picking up the phone from car, people realise after some reaching office i have lost two phones , thugs are perfect operators they are known as thuk thuk gang , mobile snatching is not common ,but cases of chain snatching are heard many times , a favourite crime of young students of crime .

Re: pakistan... safe?

Ethnicity was promoted by estab in Zia era,
I have my self received a bullet in the days of murder of Hakim Saeed but a few months can change the position. People of Pakistan are great and they take effect early and forgets more early. Hope to see better days.

Re: pakistan... safe?

did not understand "One could not carry his mobile phone openly on the street of Karachi "? is it a weapon or what why cant they carry openly

Re: pakistan... safe?

NO.... and we all know this!

Re: pakistan... safe?

Safe is relative..

You can only hope not to be caught at a wrong place on a wrong time.. this is true for London, New York, Delhi or Karachi..

For terrorist related incidents you are more likely to become a victim in Pakistan compared most of the other countries in the world.

For street crime.. Pakistan is much better compared to most of the other middle income countries.. I don't have any data to prove my point.. but most of the people who visit Pakistan frequently (and know Pakistan well) and who also travel to other middle income countries carry this view point.

I am not saying that Pakistan is a crime-less heaven. I am saying that compared to most of the middle income group countries Pakistan is still better as far as street crime is concerned.

Re: pakistan... safe?

I am sure you are not from Karachi, the mobile phone is one of the first target of street criminals in Karachi, they are usually armed with guns, the only thing they would take is money in Pocket and mobile phone.

We mostly find a safe place when need to make or receive a call, mostly inside the shopping centers or some shops, using mobile phone in the roadside always considered dangerous.

That is the reason it is advice able to hide your mobile phone when you are walking on the street.

In fact one of my cousin always carry two mobiles with the cheap one which he carrys to in the front pocket, In case need to "GIFT" someone, and the expensive one well hidden, but he was unlucky as when he was about to "Gift" someone the cheaper one sudden other started rinnging and he ended up "Gifting" both.:D

Re: pakistan... safe?

is it same even in day broad light and in between crowd,

Re: pakistan... safe?

If you know the answer, why ask?

Re: pakistan... safe?

The problem Pakistan is facing today is mainly because of abortion of democratic process since 1947; the society was not allowed to mature politically so no vibrant middle class formed over there. The nation was either ruled be elites or army. It did not allow abolishing landlords or introducing land reforms so that the capital can be distributed evenly amongst the working class. India and Pakistan were freed at same time. One of the reasons for the prosperity of India is its democracy.

Re: pakistan... safe?

Pakistan is a country of 180 Million (I think). The incidents you hear off are a very small part of a much bigger picture.
For every case of kidnapping, murder, terrorism, there are countless MILLIONS of cases where absolutely nothing happens. There are MILLIONS and MILLIONS of people who go about their day with absolutely nothing happening to them beyond the mundane.

In absolute terms, I dont think crimes such as these are so much higher then other countries.

Karachi has had trouble, but then I know people who have spent their entire life there without any serious incident, where as I also know of a number of cases of Pakistanis living in NY who have been murdered.

The problem is that Pakistan tends to get much more negative coverage then most other countries. Media is a business after all, and positive news doesnt sell papers. So the media tend to gravitate towards any and every incident they can find.

Thats not to deny that there are cases of terrorism owing to the war right next door, but the problem is only as immediate as the source that presents it. For most people living in Pakistan, terrorism doesnt occupy every momment of their lives. Or seem that immediate.

Re: pakistan... safe?

With economy bad people suffering it is clear crime has gone up but same with many countries around the world you can say same thing.

but since 2001 we also have the american agencies and since they arrive the security situation gone worse

Re: pakistan... safe?

Yes it is.

No one dare to do anything even if they see someone has been robbed or even killed in the broad day light in front of them, reason the criminals are usually armed with the guns and mostly do not hesitate to shoot anyone.

You would be surprise that now motorist in Karachi fears traffic jams, as whenever you stuck in the jam these criminals would start looting helpless motorists who are stuck in their cars and have no chance of running away.

My younger brother was robbed in such as fashion, the robbers were so daring that they even fired and shot on the air, to make sure no one would resist, after they left after taking his cell phone and money. And other motorist were only come and check about him once they left.

This is reality of life in Karachi.
