Brother, most Pakistanis do not know about this earthquake. How sad but true, because of Pakistan government policy of that time ‘Keep the citizens ignorant’. Fortunately this policy has changed since Musharraf came to power. NS and BB still are living in old days and thus keep saying things as if Pakistanis even today are ignorant as before.
Anyhow, 1974 earthquake was the third mega recorded earthquake in areas that is Pakistan.
Amongst recorded earthquakes in Pakistani areas, there are 4 major earthquake instances (that whose magnitude was over 6.0 on rector scale).
First being Quetta earthquake happened on 30 May 1935 (with magnitude 7.5 on rector scale). It was very devastating and its human shock was felt all over India (because British did lot of relief work). Around 35000 people died.
Second recorded mega earthquake happened on Makran coast on 27th Nov 1945 (it was the strongest with magnitude 8.0 on rector scale). Officially around 4000 people died. England was ruling the country but I think they were not directly involved in ruling the area.
Third mega earth quake happened in Northern areas and devastated most of Hazara and Swat on 28th Dec 1974 (it was first mega earthquake after independence with magnitude of 6.2 on rector scale). It was shallow focal depth earthquake (that cost lots of destruction). Officially 5300 people died but than believe is that official figures were hugely rigged and understated. Huge casualties and destruction happened even though epicentre was just 100 miles north of Islamabad. Media sensor was such that very few people in Pakistan know about it (very sad indeed). Life all over Pakistan (in almost all major cities) kept running as normal unconcerned (and unknowingly) about what happened to their fellow citizen in that remote areas. Huge aid came (as OPEC countries were finding a windfall due to huge increase in oil price due to Arab-Israel war in 1973), but there is none if any record of Aids are there that I know of.

Fourth mega earthquake was on 8 Oct 2005 (and all Pakistan knows that). It was earthquake with magnitude of 7.6 on rector scale and destruction was devastating. Around 86000 people died. Media well covered the earthquake and government made sure that all Pakistan get involved. Hope is that people that suffered due to this earthquake did not found left out (contrast to those that got effected in India due to this earthquake were treated as animals). Even today after 2 years Pakistan remembers the earthquake and the victims. All aid pledges were made public and everything is openly getting monitored.

may hold more weight to awam, but is not correct, but hey it is what it is eh?
it was a figure of speech. u missed the imp. bit of the point I was making.
but thats fine with me. running off on tangents. It's shining Pakistan. Whats correct or incorrect will be judged by the people and any fair poll will force open a lot of eyes.
as far as votes from teh same experts, do you really think that the benefactors of the same experts are not pulling all kinds of strings behind the scenes :)
so u do agree then. not ever word of appreciation is objective and fair assessment.
atleast be original on GS :D
khail khatam, paisa hazam
no use. it's the same ol' status quo ever since I joined. If the blatant attack on judiciary and 12th May did not wake people up, I dont know what will.
Re: Pakistan’s forex reserves exceed $16 billion
Bhaijan, I must commend you on your knowledge. Mashallah.
Re: Pakistan’s forex reserves exceed $16 billion
BB / NS coming back is an example that people don’t wake up to anything.. ![]()
I now seriously believe that Pakistan deserves what it gets. Now it might be bad for karachi, but then the so-called “majority” will be to blame for itself if BB and NS come to power and loot the country. After all, in democracy, everyone [esp who voted for the person] share the blame.
Chew on that, little me.. ![]()
Re: Pakistan’s forex reserves exceed $16 billion
^I sadly am starting to believe in the same. I was working in internal Sindh once and I saw that internal Sindh has the worst developed rural areas in Pakistan. Most people are lazy. You will find men siting on the road smoking and chatting and women working in the fields. Anyways! We had a cook and he was supporting Zardari (Not Benazir). I asked him that even after looking at the situation in Sindh and the money Zardari was putting in his own pockets, why was he still supporting Zardari. He said, "Atleast! They money is going in to a Sindhi's pocket".

Re: Pakistan’s forex reserves exceed $16 billion
During the time of BB and Nawaz, Pakistan received $30billion in foreign loans, yet Pakistan only had one to two billion dollars in forex reserves.

Yup, I believe that is correct. The Musharraf government has certainly not borrowed $30 billion for foreign agencies over the last 8 years, but it has still managed to accrue a stunning $16 billion in foreign reserves.
