March has been the month of resolutions and change for the Pakistanis. This is the month of revolutions of all colors, red or velvet. On 23rd March, 1940, All India Muslim League held its annual session at Minto Park, Lahore and passed the historical Pakistan resolution.

The Pakistan Resolution stated: “No constitutional plan would be workable or acceptable to the Muslims unless geographical contiguous units are demarcated into regions which should be so constituted with such territorial readjustments as may be necessary. That the areas in which the Muslims are numerically in majority as in the North-Western and Eastern zones of India should be grouped to constitute independent states in which the constituent units shall be autonomous and sovereign. That adequate, effective and mandatory safeguards shall be specifically provided in the constitution for minorities in the units and in the regions for the protection of their religious, cultural, economic, political, administrative and other rights of the minorities, with their consultation. Arrangements thus should be made for the security of Muslims where they were in a minority”.

23rd March is not yet another national holiday. It’s the reiteration of pledge that the Muslims of subcontinent wanted to create an independent homeland, where they could live in accordance with their religious and cultural values.They got what they wanted after passing through river of blood and tears. On 14th August, 1947 they got Pakistan.

But unfortunately with the passing of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Pakistan lost its direction. Feudal and bureacracy reigned and then for 60 years country remained hostage to the civilian and military dictators. Pakistan survived through many coups. All the pillars of state including parliament, judiciary, military, media and civil society kept on eating away the resources and yielding to the vested interests.

Then a Chief Justice appeared on the horizon and said ‘No’. That thudding ‘No’ reverberated throughout Pakistan and after the intense struggle of two years won the battle of justice. During this battle many idols crashed. One military and one civilian dictator licked the ground and rule of law prevailed.
Now, we the people of Pakistan have got a formidable task at our hands. We have to keep this candle alight. We have to fight for the total and consummate victory of the Justice. We have to make sure that this velvet revolution reaches from Gwadar to Kohat and from Karachi to Khyber and from Khunjrab to Azam Warsak.

Having passed the Pakistan Resolution in 1940, the Muslims of India changed their ultimate goal. Instead of seeking alliance with the Hindu community, they set out on a path whose destination was a separate homeland for the Muslims of India. Now in 2009, Pakistanis have changed their goal too. Instead of surrendering to the forces of status quo they have set their eyes on the lofty objective of making Pakistan, the Pakistan of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Now the question is “How can we correct this current situation in Pakistan? How can we make Pakistan, the Pakistan of Quaid-e-Azam?”

We can become better Pakistani, patriotic Pakistanis by building discipline in ourselves first. We need to be tolerant of other views, knowledgeable in our history and traditions, culture, and religion so we can differentiate between the right and the wrong. We can become better Pakistanis by becoming better practicing muslims who strive to be kind to humanity, who make no difference of creed, color, tongue, status of class or origin but treat everyone with dignity and respect.

We can make Pakistan a shining example for others by adopting honesty, integrity, unity. And work to practice those principles and make them a part of our daily lives. When we change, as Pakistanis, Pakistan will change for the better by itself.

I agree that first there needs to be a genuine concern for the situation. Then the willingness to make a difference.

You know what I dont understand... its not like we're the first civilization to ever be formed.
I mean there are successful democracies out there already - not that any two poeple are ever the same but we can learn from their fundamentals can't we?

Our infastructure is soooo poor... Don't we have the IMF and other global bansk why can't be build up? Why is it so difficult to follow the money and get it where it actually belongs.

Why are we still using trial and error and can't contain corruption?
We're nto 4 yrs old anymore.

By self-reliance, sincerity and devotion to the country... No matter what we are, no matter where we are... Acting on the simple slogan, "just do it" without expecting any returns from anyone.

A lot of times I feel bad about anything happening in the country, I hear from my fellows that feeling bad wont make anything right. We have to do something practically to fix it. Its so true. Problems are immense, but we are also not outnumbered.And as it is said that One + One is eleven, we can join hands and do the best going an extra mile for our country.
