Pakistan rejects US appeal to reopen liason offices

This is a good start. We should appreciate it. All of american soldiers and mercenaries should be sent back home. We do not need them.

Now americans were quite happy to cut their forces and intelligence offices, as their propaganda machines WP, NYT WikiLeaks and so on were conveying us, so why requesting this then?

Go back and leave us alone.

Pakistan rejects US appeal to reopen liaison offices

ISLAMABAD: Despite a visit by Hillary Clinton to mend ties, Pakistani leaders reject appeals not to close military intelligence sharing centers and say they will review the US drone campaign. Clinton presses Pakistan to do more against militants, Los Angeles Times reported.

Pakistani officials angered by the secret US raid that killed Osama bin Laden declared they would conduct a full review of operations by US drone aircraft over the country and rebuffed an appeal by visiting US officials not to close military intelligence liaison centers, US and Pakistani officials said.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited Islamabad on Friday in a bid to ease the mistrust deepened by the secret May 2 raid that killed the Al Qaeda chief.

Pakistani leaders see the raid as a blatant violation of their country’s sovereignty, and Washington’s decision to not inform Islamabad in advance as an example of a glaring lack of trust. For the US, Bin Laden’s presence in the military city of Abbottabad, just 35 miles from the capital, renewed long held suspicions among many in the US that Pakistan’s intelligence community, or elements within it, knew that the Al Qaeda leader was there and did nothing about it.

Clinton, in a meeting with President Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, army chief Gen. Ashfaq Kayani and other leaders, emphasized that the US has seen no evidence that anyone in the upper echelons of Pakistani leadership knew of Bin Laden’s presence in Abbottabad.

Officials on both sides described Friday’s meeting as blunt, and acknowledged that serious disagreements remained. But they said the two sides also agreed that the relationship is mutually beneficial.

A senior US official in Washington said that Pakistani officials rebuffed a US request not to close the liaison offices in Peshawar and Quetta that have been used to share intelligence on militants with Pakistani ground forces.

Pakistan recently ordered US special operations personnel at the so-called “intelligence fusion cells” to leave the country, a setback for US efforts to form closer ties with Pakistani units fighting militants along with the border with Afghanistan. US officials remain hopeful that they can persuade Islamabad to allow the US personnel to reestablish the intelligence-sharing centers, the official said.

Pakistani officials said Zardari also said his government intended to review all aspects of operations by unmanned US drone aircraft. The campaign of drone airstrikes is deeply unpopular among Pakistanis.

Re: Pakistan rejects US appeal to reopen liason offices

Good Move to start with but this shouldn't be the final move, we need to send them back and then lock the door...

2nd Move, start taking out all the SSP, Jhangvi and these kind of Anti-Pakistan elements out of cities, take their sympathizers as well.. make it blunt that anyone found sympathizing with these elements would be considered as enemy-of-state.... impose same in Balochistan where most of the Afghans have made life very difficult for Hazara and Pashtun.. time to throw Afghans out of country as well...

^ the 'the news' article is also quoting Los Angeles times in that report

Re: Pakistan rejects US appeal to reopen liason offices

^^ Yes it does

Re: Pakistan rejects US appeal to reopen liason offices

bhai sahab, the basic principle of propaganda is to get the impact on target audience. If something is published in a foreign news paper does something good to boast the moral of the nation then it doesn't matter if it comes from LA time or Times Of India that matter.

@hanibal : Yeah man, fully with you on that. All those mullahs should be chitrolled publicly and if they refuse to mend their ways, should be thrown to Arabian Sea!

Re: Pakistan rejects US appeal to reopen liason offices

Well written Shaukat Qadir!

Where are we headed?

…]

First and foremost is the fact that there is awareness in the US administration that they have gone too far; and that the slightest push by them could end up terminating this tenuous and unhappy relationship. The second conclusion is that the US does not wish to risk this severance of relations — at least until they can negotiate a satisfactory settlement out of Afghanistan.

While China’s warning to the US regarding Obama’s threat to again undertake ‘Operation Geronimo’-like ventures in Pakistan was not mentioned, its omission was significant.

I must again suggest that, while we have no desire to alienate the US, it is time that WE say, ‘enough’. There is no doubt that we, in Pakistan, face an existentialist threat to the future of our children and grandchildren, whereas the US does not — at least not from this war. The threat they face is an economic one, one of their own creation.

Our threat stems from our support to the US. It is time for us to fight our own war and let the US fight its own. Mullen says, “It is NOT America’s war”. If he is telling the truth (?), let us ask him to leave and fight new wars in the Middle East! But neither he, nor General David Petraeus will leave. There is too much at stake.

If there is one message we can send to the US regarding Ms Clinton’s assertion that “Pakistan’s best days are ahead of us”, that’s true Ma’am, but only if you pack up and quit the region. If you don’t, the ‘Afghan freedom struggle will continue, the US will end up, willingly, or otherwise, creating instability, and we, Pakistanis, will suffer.
If there is any good will left, Ms Clinton, go home, before you are forced to; and you will, as you always have, lay your failure at another’s door; this time, it will be ours.

We would prefer an amicable divorce to an acrimonious one!

Re: Pakistan rejects US appeal to reopen liason offices

this is pure drama, how many lies have the government told the people of pakistan? 1, 10 thousands.

They fooling the people one day they will say oh US troops reduced, next day 1 or 2 office close enough of the lies!

because the american mercenaries continue to plant bombs and cause chaos in pakistan. Nothing except complete withdrawal of all american occupiers including CIA terrorists is acceptable.

Re: Pakistan rejects US appeal to reopen liason offices

Maybe that was for public consumption, internally they would have winked them and said keep going..."no problem we have again fooled our people"...

What credibility has our government got, check what they have been doing since Raymond Davis Fiasco

Re: Pakistan rejects US appeal to reopen liason offices

Good article, I also believe that American role in this region is destabilizing but none of our rulers/military can politely tell the Americans what they are doing willingly or unwillingly.

Re: Pakistan rejects US appeal to reopen liason offices

^^ I personally think, after leaving Afghanistan, USA will dump Pakistan anyway, putting very hard sanctions and Pakistan WILL have to look inside for survival. This relationship with USA is very very artificial, it is not even relationship it is pure slavery.

Steps that we can take and media can/should promote those:

  • Work on education on war footage, education of our nation should be the top most priority, everything else comes second.
  • The interactions of our army officers with them should be strictly controlled and no one should meet them without permission
  • same goes for bureaucrats at every level
  • Politicians... ah they will keep polishing US shoes, but I see clear change in the newer generation and this brings hope.

There is an awareness of national pride among the youth. This slavery can not go forever

Re: Pakistan rejects US appeal to reopen liason offices

And we will more unofficial @liason offices :)

Re: Pakistan rejects US appeal to reopen liason offices

Completely agree!. And that is Pakistan knows to ally itself to China more closely and not dependent upon US for military machines.

Re: Pakistan rejects US appeal to reopen liason offices

Yet another topi drama......... this is just like that spineless Gillani said to the americans that we will protest but you can continue sending the drones. I have absolutely no doubt that there is absolutely no way this khassi govt would ever say no to america. They would accept US demand, if they ask for spending a night with their wives, let alone asking for a couple of offices. This is all a topi drama to try to appease the idotic pakistani nation who will fall for this crap yet again.

Re: Pakistan rejects US appeal to reopen liason offices

Typical pakistani mentality.... always looking towards outsiders to help us. Yes, we should have friendshop with china, but we should be a nation enough to stand up for ourselves.

Re: Pakistan rejects US appeal to reopen liason offices

^Ye bat bhi sahi kahi...
