Pakistan refused to let the US open consulate in Baluchistan

Why does the US needs a consulate in Baluchistan?

U.S. to establish consulate in Pakistan’s Baluchistan not allowed

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) – Pakistan’s security agencies and the Foreign Ministry have opposed opening of American consulate to be set up in southwestern Balochistan province over security concerns, reported local Urdu TV channel Dawn on Friday.

According to the report, U.S. ambassador in Islamabad Cameron Munter is making efforts for the opening of the consulate in Balochistan.

Munter visited Quetta, the provincial capital on Thursday, and said Balochistan is very important to the United States.

The U.S. has long been anxious to open consulate in Balochistan, which borders Afghanistan and Iran, but the move has been opposed by Pakistani security agencies and the Foreign Ministry.

The Foreign Ministry has sent its report to the Interior Ministry over reservations and concerns about the U.S. consulate, said Dawn, adding that the security agencies are also not giving the required clearance despite fresh moves by the incumbent U.S. ambassador.

The U.S. had made a request to the Pakistani government to open consulate in Balochistan, arguing that it would oversee development projects in the province.

American media has reported on several occasions that the proposed consulate was likely to have a sizable CIA presence. Apart from espionage worries, the security agencies had also expressed security concerns about the presence of an American diplomatic facility in Balochistan.

Last year, the Pakistani law enforcement agencies had arrested two Pakistani employees of the U.S. consulate general in Karachi while traveling in the port city of Gwader in Balochistan.

The fresh move came just few days after Pakistan imposed travel restrictions over the movement of American diplomats and they are required special permissions to go to other cities.

Two groups of U.S. diplomats were recently sent back from the outside of northwestern city of Peshawar, who had no permission to enter the area.

The U.S. State Department said that negotiations are taking place with Pakistan to resolve the issue.

Pakistan insists that there are no special curbs on the U.S. diplomats, but all diplomats have been given guidelines because of their security.

Re: Pakistan refused to let the US open consulate in Baluchistan

Good to see the govt standing up to the Americans.

Unlike the dictator who let the Yanks do anything they wanted.

Re: Pakistan refused to let the US open consulate in Baluchistan

LOL still they will open it im sure

Re: Pakistan refused to let the US open consulate in Baluchistan

Apparently the pricing has not been up to Islamabad's expectations. The matter could be resolved if the US offers the right package ;) After all, Pakistan is an Itwaar Bazaar for anyone willing.

Re: Pakistan refused to let the US open consulate in Baluchistan

Hmm why do the Americans need a consulate in Balochistan, that is due to its strategic value, Gwadar and all the minerals...

Should Pakistan allow them, hell no!

Will Pakistan allow them, thats anyone's guess!

Re: Pakistan refused to let the US open consulate in Baluchistan

big no.

Re: Pakistan refused to let the US open consulate in Baluchistan

My guess is a grand YES and my wish is a huge NO.

Re: Pakistan refused to let the US open consulate in Baluchistan

This is nonsense -- what is the purpose of opening a consulate? Besides the regular CIA agenda, I think it has to do with deeper US plans for Baluchistan.

Watch a few weeks go by and the corrupt Pakistani government "quietly" agree to opening the consulate/US presence.

Re: Pakistan refused to let the US open consulate in Baluchistan

How many development projects are financed and run with US aid? If there are none, why they want to oversee development projects there? It is the job of Baluchistan Government/Federal Government not the US Consulate. Looks like revival of East India Company.

Re: Pakistan refused to let the US open consulate in Baluchistan

As a keen observer of things in Balochistan, I assure all of you that terrorist organizations like BLA and BRA are supported not only by our hindu friends, but they also keep on getting weapons, money and high-tech equipment from our american friends. I think the american interest is pretty obvious...... to break away balochistan from pakistan so that it exists as a separate country where US plans to establish permanent bases and maintain control and which will act as a strategic location to monitor and control Pakistan, China, Russian and Iran.

As regards opening the consulate, with MI6 agents like Rehman Malik and traitor pakistani government in place, I think they will probably succeed in opening more than a dozen consulates in place of one.

Re: Pakistan refused to let the US open consulate in Baluchistan

USA can have a military base in Baluchistan but cannot have a consulate there ..

now that is one smart decsion by our govt ...

jerks

Re: Pakistan refused to let the US open consulate in Baluchistan

US can dream on!!

anyhow, i really hope and pray govt is gonna stick to their decision!! or else its like inviting museebat khudse!

Re: Pakistan refused to let the US open consulate in Baluchistan

Don’t you know there are 20-30 top universities in Baluchistan churning out 1000-2000 world class engineers, doctors, scientists who are waiting for US companies to invest in Baluchistan as well as those professionals wanting to collaborate with universities/investment firms in US??? /sarcasm

Really? Govt stood up? Why did govt not stand up in Raymond Davis case? List is long my friend, we can’t compare the govt’s standing up to dictator’s rule.

Re: Pakistan refused to let the US open consulate in Baluchistan

Does the USA have consulates in different places of other countries? Balochistan has no need for a US Consulate.

Balochistan is a less troublesome route to Central Asia and is also next to Iran. It is estranged from Pakistan thanks to our military and political officials of the last 64 years.

It is perfect spot for interference!

Re: Pakistan refused to let the US open consulate in Baluchistan

will china stand back and watch this nonsense unfold? will they allow all their hard work and investments in baluchistan (ie gawadar) just be taken away? will the pakistanis allow baluchistan to gain independence? pakistanis should consider the russians as friends before they are taken over by the ruthless zionist scum.

Re: Pakistan refused to let the US open consulate in Baluchistan

I think this time pak army is going to be strict. last week army refused to let usa park its four plans on islamabad airport too. i think it is enough now and pak army has finally decided to re construct its image in public and they will be successful in doing that,,,,,,,

Re: Pakistan refused to let the US open consulate in Baluchistan

If China can get free hand in Gwadar, why NO to US

Re: Pakistan refused to let the US open consulate in Baluchistan

Yeah sure, they will be strict until daddy wants the naughty girl to stop its mischief and gives her a few dollars.
