Finally a good news for Pakistani sports fans. Not sure how will the 14th ranked do but atleast they are competing in the mega-event.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan men’s hockey team have become the latest team to qualify for the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018.
The Greenshirts, currently ranked 14th in the FIH Hero World Rankings, finished in seventh position in the Hero Hockey World League Semi-Final in London, meaning they faced an anxious wait to see if that was good enough to earn them qualification to the blue riband event that will take place in India next year from November 28 to December 16, said an official statement.

Yes they did as all the four finalists at the European Nations Championship in the Netherlands have already qualified for the world cup at HWL semi final in London in June where Pakistan finished 7th.

They need to prove their qualification by winning the Asia Cup in Dhaka in October but India seems very strong as they humiliated us twice in London in June! Even Malaysia and Japan would be hard to beat with the current team.

Don’t be complacent! Despite defeating Pakistan twice with tennis score of 7-1 & 6-1 in London in June, India finished only a spot above Pakistan and succumbed to the fitness-intensive hockey displayed by the Europeans and the American teams.

This is one of the reasons of decline of the sport in India & Pakistan - lack of following of hockey! More following more money and activity into sport.

I agree. The rules of field hockey have changed so much it is no longer interesting to watch. Plus there is no TV coverage of these games. So very difficult to stay involved.

Had they spent half of what they do on cricket, perhaps fortunes would be different
