The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) on Tuesday named the 18-member squad for a pre-Olympic three-nation tournament to be played from July 29 in Alca La Real, Spain. “A training camp for the pre-Olympic tournament and Olympic Games will commence at the Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium Karachi from July 16,” said a spokesman for the PHF here.
“The squad has been finalised after consulting the national selection committee and team management on the basis of the performances of the players during the European tour,” added the spokesman. He said during the European tour the main objective of spotting the final lineup for the Athens Olympics was achieved with complete understanding and harmony in the team management duly considered and approved by the chairman and members of national selection committee. He said the squad would attend the short training camp under the supervision of Dutch coach Roelant Oltmans and assistant coach Tahir Zaman. The team will be flying to Spain on July 27. The pre-Olympic tournament also features Argentina and hosts Spain. He said the 18-member squad would be reduced to 16 to participate in the Athens Olympics, commencing from August 15 in Greece.
