Pakistan players promised $85,000 each for World Cup win
Pakistani players can expect cash rewards worth 75 million rupees ($1.3 million) if they win next year’s World Cup in South Africa, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Thursday.
“It is basically an incentive programme designed to provide motivation to players,” PCB spokesman Samiul Hasan told Reuters.
“The PCB chairman believes that the players deserve such cash rewards if they can win a title which is so dear to the cricket-loving people of Pakistan.”
He added that every player in the 15-man squad would receive five million rupees ($85,000) if the team won the title for the first time since 1992.
What I don’t get is, did the Pakistan team not have the heart and enthusiasm to win the World Cup for their country.. money or no money? What’s the point of offering money? Does money raise your enthusiasm to win for your country?
The World Cup is the prestigue tournament of Cricket. Anyone able to play in it should be very proud, representing their nation, battling it out for the ultimate, to be declared World Champions.
PC, I don't think the enthusiasim or patritiotism is the issue here. But we need some kind of barrier to protect the likes of Wasim bhai from fixing matches, more money means more natural performances.
Let’s not be idealistic, the fact is players are very much motivated by money. If it makes them play their best rather than their worst to keep some bookie happy it’s got to be a good thing.
*Very good move in my humble opinion. Be realistic here guys; we all know that the Pakistani players are a bunch of greedy shmucks (No offence to their talent). This will motivate them greatly. People, That Is All.*
