^ Yeh, you’re right, masha’Allah seh we’re blessed with so many talented players that it’s heartbreaking to eliminate any of 'em. :o
Hmm I would actually open with afridi in this series and even in the WC. He also needs a secure spot, so he can seriously focus on his game, and not wonder what’s his role in the team maniacally. He doesn’t really fit anywhere else, pitch in Windies will be supportive to him, and if he gets a good game practice on the harsh pitches of SA, he may actually improve his game. And, lets face it, he’s valuable for his overall persona, and we like him as a part of our team.
It’s a lil unfair though to other openors who’ve been asked to make their place in the team, and must really want to be in the final playing WC team. :o But since none of them been quite successful, and we’re so closed to the WC, it’s best that they be limited to being back-ups, if God forbid something goes wrong.
That leaves Nazir. 
I don’t think he deserves the place either, unless he proves himself. But he has not been given a good chance, in my opinion. I really really hope that he performs well and emerge as a more mature player, insha’Allah. That would be one happy ending.

Boring....Afridi is a waste until he gets into his mind to play str8 at all times. Nazir will come back with a bang as all comeback players do for Pakistan, and than he will fall away.

however I am glad he is given a call back. We need someone who can score quickly. Imran Farhat just doesnt cut it in odis specially. Hafeez doesnt have the vibes of a player who is gonna score over 30 runs. ( although I will gladly take 30 in every match). But if nazir cements his come back, thats going to be really awesome.

Agreed! He has an average of 23 in almost 63 ODIs. which is almost same as Afridi and Hafeez. And if you look at his last few innings you will hardly find scores in double figures. Also as i mentioned before he has an average of 18 in last 6 one day matches he played in domestic cricket .....
BUT
even with all the stats not favoring great expectations,, i still hope that he clicks this time around inshallah ... hez such a stylish player !

It seems like Azhar Mehmood really wants to play WC2007. He is knocking(almost banging) on selector's doors. He has taken 22 wickets in 4 test matches (domestic) at an average of 13.28 and has scored 1 100 and 2 50s in 4 innings.

Sir, first of all, I never claimed the statement as anything close to knowledge. It was an opinion. Read again.
Secondly, maybe you're right. I give you that.
And lastly, and most importantly, no matter what has gone before this .. he is back, and insha'Allah will perform for Pakistan. Thankyouverymuch.

Openers = Musical chair game, wohi ghisay petay huwa wapas aa jatay hain, today its Nazir, Yasir and Hafeez in the thick of play, who knows after WC07 maybe Tauffy/Butt and Farhat will play again.
We thought Afridi was bad, boy that was my poor very poor assessment 
atleast we know if he stays on 22 yards, he may score some runs and put the opponent under pressure (just by staying), otherwise he gets out. Nothing more O less to expect.
Let Afridi open the innings till December 2008, in ODI"s regardless his avg fall or shoot up like stock market. and on the other end, try to inject someone suitable from domestic cricket, who is soley an opener, not half hafeez, half aamir-sohail and half the rest of the tried Openers (2004-2006).
It will give some peace of mind and a long term solution, for Pakistan team.

I haave ^^ my beef/ mirchi masala with the openers not the whole team, our bowling; Shoaib (hopefully 80% fit= 40 overs/4 games), Asif, Rana Naveed, Gul, Shabbir, Rao and sami and with all-rounder trio; Afridi, Malik and Razzaq and backbone of our batting (2 Y’s and Inzi) they are quite good and hopefully Inzi will last beyond WC’07.

Ok, after seeing Afridi in today 20-20 ...I pray that they don't send him to open with Imran Nazir. I hope Hafeez and Nazir open or Akmal with Nazir.
