Pakistan not to transfer F-16 technology: FO

By Mariana Baabar

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has assured the US that it will not transfer F-16 technology to a third country once it receives the aircraft it has purchased from America under a deal. At present the US Congress is debating the sale of F-16s to Pakistan, where some voices are being raised about the sale.

Regarding doubts about transferring technology to a third country, the spokesperson said: “Transfer of technology is included in the standard laws and this agreement says that there will be no transfer of technology. We have not reached this stage as yet but we would be looking at the appropriate language (contained in the agreement).”

Isn’t the Chinese Fighter Aircraft J-10 already a copy of the Pakistan’s American F-16?

Re: Pakistan not to transfer F-16 technology: FO

No I do not think J-10 is a copy of F-16.You can say it is as capable as an F-16.The J-10 just like J-7 and J-13 (future)is a Chinese fighter with some avionics acquired from Israel and Russia. It makes sense because J10 has a delta wing configuration with canards, its airframe is completely different, avionics, radar etc.F-16 does not have that instead it uses some other types.

Re: Pakistan not to transfer F-16 technology: FO

There is no solid proof that Pakistan transferred any significant F-16 technology to China; fact is, China has had access to key European, American and Israeli technology in the 1980s. Today the Chinese have started joint projects with key European aviation companies such as Eurocopter; development, avionics, etc, are all being produced jointly. China has also come a long way in avionics and systems development; they're developing AESA radars and stealth aircraft as we speak.

Pakistan has also come a long way through similar arrangements; multiple Pakistani defence firms have had and continue to have joint projects with South African, European and Chinese firms. Air Weapons Complex reportedly developed a BVRAAM called V-4 by upgrading the South African T-Darter; it has a range of 50-60km and is equipped on our Mirage ROSE Is. AWC developed the H-2 and H-4 precision guided bombs by upgrading South African Raptor-I/II designs. The H-2 and H-4 equip our Mirage ROSE II and ROSE III aircraft.

Now other Pakistani firms are poised to go into the joint development of other high end weaponry of European and South African origin. Pakistan is perhaps one of the most tech-savy countries in Asia.
