Pakistan needs some retired Prime Ministers and retired Presidents

We see that the discussion on Musharraf’s re-election rages on in this forum (and in Pakistan).

However what we really need to see is that some of our current leaders just retire from active politics. I include in that list people like Nawaz Sharif, BB, Altaf Hussain, Aslam Beg, etc.

Even Musharraf should stay only for 2 terms (9 years and 10 months). That means he should leave the office of President somewhere in 2008 or early 2009 (if my calculations are correct). He should then concentrate on playing golf, touring other countries, and writing essays / books for the next generation.

In our rather interesting history, we had just few gentlemen leaders who retired from active politics. Unfortunately there are few who want to train the next generation of leaders and move on.

In civilian leadership this is particularly important as we don’t have a training system similar to the army. Both NS and BB had 2 attempts (however short) so now it is time for them to quit.

NS should train next generation of Republicans (Pak version of USA’s elephant party), and BB should train next generation of Democrats (Pak version of Donkey party).

Hopefully that will bring out the future leadership that is a bit mature than what we have in the form of Maulavi sahiban Qazi, and Fazal-ur-Rehman.

antiobl mian, we desis never know when to call it quits. Just take sports for example, only Imran Khan knew when to retire otherwise all our "legendary" cricketers were forced to retire, unfortunately there is no age limitation in politics so trash people like NS, BB, AH can keep screwing us for the rest of our lives until Allah swt decides to relieve us from their torture/loot.

All of Pakistan's retired Presidents and Prime Ministers are controversial in one way or another to some groups. I think the only one in recent times who commanded respect from both sides was Moeen Quereshi, and he is too busy travelling the world on his consultancies.

Right!

I hope when they train people they don't teach them how to steal.

Pakistani politicians have been doing nothing but stealing since independence, which is no wonder the Quaid and leaders after him wanted to put checks and balances on them.
