Interesting article on the role of the Pak Navy in commanding a predominantly NATO task force.

Karachi: The official handover of command of Regional Maritime Security Force (RMSF) to the Pakistan Navy will take place today (Monday) in Bahrain.

United States Ambassador to Pakistan Ryan C. Crocker congratulated the Pakistan Navy on its impending takeover of Coalition Task Force 150 (“CTF-150”) at a reception at the American Consul General’s residence in Karachi.

The official handover of command to the Pakistan Navy will take place on Monday, April 24, in Bahrain.

Coalition Task Force 150 is a maritime security force responsible for operations in the Gulf of Oman, Gulf of Aden, the Red Sea and the North Arabian Sea.

This will be the first time for the Pakistan Navy at the helm of this important task force, which is made up primarily of ships from NATO countries. The only two non-NATO ally members are Pakistan and New Zealand.

“In taking command of CTF-150, Pakistan is again showing its strong commitment to regional security,” said Ambassador Crocker.

Attending the reception were several officers of the Pakistan Navy, including Commander Pakistan Fleet Admiral Asif Humayun.

CTF-150 is part of the Global War on Terror, aimed at preventing terrorist organizations from attacking important maritime structures and disrupting terrorist shipments of arms and materials through the Persian Gulf.

CTF-150 is part of regional maritime security operations that preserve the free and secure use of the world’s oceans for legitimate mariners and prevent terrorists from using the world’s oceans unchecked.

^ I cannot open the link , what kind of ships are included in this TF?

Re: Pakistan Navy to take command of Coalition Task Force

This is a proud and significant event for Pakistan and the Navy. :k:
Wish them luck and hope they set high examples for others.

Re: Pakistan Navy to take command of Coalition Task Force

^^ Great news Haris.

I would suggest adding a whole Pakistani Marine Division and station it in Karachi and Gawader. Pak-Marines will act more like 911 responders for the CTF-150 force. We should have two small air craft carriers, equipped with Cobra gunship, reconnaissance plains, and light combat fighter bombers. This carrier force will have support ships like cruisers, destroyers, and may be a few battle ships.

NATO would love to equip such a force. This will relieve many European sailors and Pakistani sailors will be at the most 30 minutes flight to home base.

This will significantly boost Pakistan's ability to defend it's own ports as well. We have had issues with enemies blocking our ports. We have focused too much on land forces at the expense of Navy. This is the time to reverse that trend.

Re: Pakistan Navy to take command of Coalition Task Force

Bro are you suggesting that NATO should finance such a force? as this "planZ" of PN that you are suggesting is well beyond our means

Offcourse what you are saying is right but I disagree with your plan for an aircraft carrier based TF, even if NATO provides this force will it be avalible for attacks against India? if not why should we waste our energies in a policing action when they could be better used against our nemesis India

Re: Pakistan Navy to take command of Coalition Task Force

Yeah I guess PN could and should get some advanatages in terms of equipment and training from this opportunity.

The PN has taken over command of the Coalition Maritime Security Campaign-CMSC at Bahrain in a ceremony attended by multi starred naval officers from various countries. Rear Admiral Shahid Iqbal of PN will be the new OC of the Coalition Task Force-CTF150.

Re: Pakistan Navy to take command of Coalition Task Force

^I agree as far as training and coordination with other navies is concerned and political advantges are concerned
anybody have a list of these ships involved in this force?

Re: Pakistan Navy to take command of Coalition Task Force

Just to be clear, this is docked force protection we are talking about. Not an actual combat role or combat force protection. Pakistani navy does not have the capability for combat force protection or combat partcicpation.

Re: Pakistan Navy to take command of Coalition Task Force

CTF-150 is the main force that runs anti-pirate duties off the coast of Somalia.

Re: Pakistan Navy to take command of Coalition Task Force

CTF-150 was created at the begining of the Afghan action for docked force/fleet protection, and that remains its primary role.

Re: Pakistan Navy to take command of Coalition Task Force

of course this is not a 'combat' role. But is a much significant undocked and perhaps often docked security role.
and regarding your insightful assumptions about what PN can or cannot do, you're welcome to live with them.
