ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has made the most modern armoured vehicle for its army solely from the resources of its domestic technology and its supply will be made within a few weeks, said Chief of Staff of the Chief Executive Lt-Gen Hamid Javed while talking to The News at the Chief Executive secretariat.

He revealed that the armoured vehicle will be the least expensive and strongest vehicle particularly with regard to its structure and efficiency. He told to The News Desk that the vehicle was prepared within the period of four years and can be run ten kilometres faster than the fastest tank of the world. Almost 150 such vehicles will be prepared while a total of 2000 such vehicles are required for the Pak Army, he revealed adding that the armoured vehicle has a capacity to make its way through a crowd of tanks of the enemy in order to make the quickest mobilisation and is trustworthy on unsmooth pathways and fields etc.

Lt-Gen Hamid Javed told that the making of Track-113 armoured vehicle under the licence of the US was in process when America imposed sanctions due to the nuclear testfire on May 29, 1998. These were the circumstances that Pakistan resorted to making an armoured vehicle in Taxila Heavy Complex with the help of its own technology and succeeded in this mission in less than four years. He told that such a vehicle is being prepared in Turkey also but that is far more expensive than Talha.

Lt-Gen Hamid Javed further revealed that the Track-113 agreement has not been cancelled, instead Pakistan will soon resume talks for restoration of this agreement, under which Pakistan will be supplied spare parts and other tools on cheaper rates.

I can tell you now that some of these claims are heavily exagerrated.

The Al-Talha is a made-in-Pakistan replica of an armoured vehicle already used by the Turkish, Italian and Saudi armies, amongst others. In fact, its engine is probably inferior to the one used by these other countries as the Al-Talha has a Chinese engine, according to my sources.

In particular, the claim that "the armoured vehicle has a capacity to make its way through a crowd of tanks of the enemy" is particularly ridiculous. The Al-Talha is only armoured suffiently to protect the infantry it carries from small arms, machine guns, and shrapnel. Its level of armour protection is insuffiect to protect against fire from tanks.

However, it does represent a significant improvement over the M-113s currently used by the Pakistan Army for the infantry transport role. Whilst the Al-Talha uses the same chassis as the M-113, it has slightly more armour, and also has firing ports to enable 4 infantrymen inside to discharge their rifles to the sides of the Al-Talha - a capability lacking from the M-113.

The Al-Talha is still inferior in many ways to the BMP-1 and BMP-2 used in a similar role by the Indian Army. The only armament built into the Al-Talha is a single machine gun for use against enemy infantry and light vehicles. In contrast, both the BMP-1 and BMP-2 are armed with a single guided anti-tank missile. The BMP-1 also carries a low-velocity 76mm cannon, whilst the BMP-2 carries a much more versatile 30mm rapid-fire cannon. Both the BMP-1 and BMP-2 also have light machine guns to supplement their other weapons, and both are made in India under licence from Russia.

The Al-Talha incorporates some improvements over the Pakistan Army's existing equipment, but we still are quite far from having an APC to match India's equipment.

I hope and pray, however, that research will continue into variants of the Al-Talha. Turkey, for instance, uses a version that has a turret built in that mounts a 30mm chaingun, whilst other turreted variants are used by several countries.

so mad you expect a supermachine on first launch?

atleast a good start to build internally. you cant really develop everything and you cant be expert in every technology, all US industeries supported by he technology provided by different specialised vendors.
and we dont have that industry base to support. it will improve gradually

pakistan india and china are aprroximately
at same stage of technological development.
may be little differnces due to allocation of funds to education and industrilasation.
russia, west and japan are at a different stage of self-sufficiency in technology.

I agree, for example everyone consider USA as inventor of rockets, but its not,
the first rocket was invented by germans then this technology stolen from poland experiments by allies

personally I am fan of german technology in most modern and human tech. from cars to medical equipment. they innovate, world copy

in electrnoic japan is ahead anyone else. and it get copied

We are not living in the colonial era anymore, where nations can take over the country & plunder its resources.

We live in the information world, where knowledge is power. Where the strength is not how many pounds you weigh but how many brain cells you got.

We don't need to defend ourselves from India, they are not evil bound monsters who will attack us without reason. We need to stop living in this fear of the unknown & try to build our nation from ground up. And focus should be on nation building, not weapon building. Energy & resources should be spend on getting out of the economic & social slavery & be more independent & self sufficient.

But alas, by the time we will realize it, the world will be leap years ahead.

And no I am not saying that Pakistan should stop supporting its military or that the military technology is something harmful for the country, but only stressing on the need for a vision which is not constraint to 'what will we do if India attacks us'.
