Pakistan - Land of Aurangazebs

In the early 1990s, when Benazir Bhutto was prime minister for a second time, the Economist of London had described Pakistan as the land of Aurangazebs. Its children are taught in schools that Aurangazeb was the greatest ruler the Indian subcontinent had ever produced in its history. There is an Aurangazeb lurking inside every Pakistani ruler – political or military. Is there an Aurangazeb lurking inside Ashfaq Kayani the new COAS, who may one day stab Musharraf in the back?

Re: Pakistan - Land of Aurangazebs

NO, they have good relations and its not possible to stab musharraf in the back by the new general cos the rest of the army will not approve it and instead throw away the general itself

Re: Pakistan - Land of Aurangazebs

aurangzeb was the most pious of the mughal emperors and the one most loyal to islam. certainly he was a great ruler and great muslim.

Re: Pakistan - Land of Aurangazebs

he may be a great muslim but not a great ruler

Re: Pakistan - Land of Aurangazebs

he was a great builder for sure,

Re: Pakistan - Land of Aurangazebs

he is great destroyer too.. he destroyed many beautiful temples
How can he become a great ruler when he tortured majority of his population, he illegaly constructed mosques, destroying many temples in places which is treated as most sacred to hindus..
he is a big controversial emperor in mughals

Re: Pakistan - Land of Aurangazebs

aurangzeb is a hero to all the muslims of south asia. refrain from insulting one of the icons of our quam.

Re: Pakistan - Land of Aurangazebs

his empire have hindu population too, he didn't treated them well, they are not happy in his rule, when majority of his people are not happy how come he is a good leader

Re: Pakistan - Land of Aurangazebs

Re: Pakistan - Land of Aurangazebs

but Kiani could always do a Kakar style, 'please leave now in the national interest' rather than staging a coup if there is growing political unrest pre-/post- election.

Re: Pakistan - Land of Aurangazebs

I think you forgot what he did to his father shahjahan and his other three brothers. Also he used to earn money by sewing the muslim caps (topis) but wear crown himself. He was a hypocrite!

Re: Pakistan - Land of Aurangazebs

actually, very few leaders anywhere can match aurengzeb's track record in leadership. aurengzeb ruled probably the most powerful empire of his time for almost 50 years. under him, all of whats now known as india plus afghanistan came under one ruler for the first time since maurya rule which ended around 200bc.

i think aurengzeb could be a good patron saint for pak because of his successful track record. pak govt should use aurengzeb as an example but the strategy they should adapt should be different. downside of using aurengzeb is that jehadi lovers will exploit aurengzeb's religious inclinations to impose jehadi agenda.

Re: Pakistan - Land of Aurangazebs

Aurangzeb was nothing more than an opportunist....he imprisoned his father and killed his three brothers to get power....he started religious intolerance by killing sikh gurus who had given refuge to his brother, the designated king of the empire......mercilessly killed hindus and sikhs in the name of religion to consolidate his grip on the throne.....completely destroyed years of effort made by his forefathers to prepare India for coexistence of different religious communities....

This man was a self centered guy who used Islam as his reason to come to power....just like Zia ul Haq....sorry my friend this man is nothing but an embarrasement for muslims of south east asia....even today>>>

^ Bhagwan karey terey ko Aurangzeb jaisa beta miley aur tera khoon piye

Re: Pakistan - Land of Aurangazebs

Aurangzeb…A very brave military general and I truly admire him for his bravery. He used to do his ‘namaz’ right in the middle of the battle field and looking at that sight many hindus in his army converted to the religion of their king. He used to stitch caps and sell them in his free time. His tomb is supposed to be made out of the money he made by selling those caps. He is also credited with improving the treasury which his father shahjahan had squandered for his extravagance. But i guess his good things end here.

he was a hard core religious fanatic who killed his own brother dara shikoh for practicing sufism. He killed sikh gurus for not converting. He killed hindus and destroyed their temples mercilessly. he was a core iconoclast. He only ended up creating severe rifts between hindus and muslims and sikhs and muslims. He is also credited for destroying many sufi dargahs. He was defeated by shivaji (irony being is he had muslims in his army) in south, rajputs abandoned him in west and north and which inspired ahoms to rebel against him in the east. He only led mughal empire into a decline.

According to stanley wolpert in his book a new history of india, aurangzeb is supposed to have said this nearing his old age wondering as to what is the purpose of all his conquests -

“I came alone and I go as a stranger. I do not know who I am, nor what I have been doing,” the dying old man confessed to his son in Feb 1707. “I have sinned terribly, and I do not know what punishment awaits me.”

Wow... VERY telling... For a man who kills his own brother and imprisons his own father, one has to wondcer why it took so long for it to dawn on him that he too is only man and is still subject to judgement in the here after...
